As an owner of the Otterbox Armor (and previous owner of the LifeProof and Seidio OBEX), I can say that your statement is false.

The oil slick issue also occurs on the Otterbox Armor but not as bad as the LifeProof case. ;)

You can't say anything to wood because all he will say is lifeproof sucks and everything else is perfect.

I don't have any oil slick issues with the Armor aside from when I'm drying it off after it gets wet there's sometimes some spotting in the middle, but it goes away quickly. The screen protector itself, however, seems to be made of unicorn hair and scratches at the slightest touch. There's swirl marks on it like I dry it off with sandpaper and I only use microfiber towels or the occasional tshirt.

I just bought a 700000 model LifeProof from my local BestBuy.. I haven't had a chance yet to put it on, but what problems should I be expecting?

Does the remote on the apple earpods work with the lifeproof headphone adapter?

It does with the black one supplied with the case.

----------

But then again the ear buds that come with the phone fit the case without the adapter. In doing so the case will not be waterproof.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

Just wanted to give a shout out to LifeProof on excellent customer service which totally caught me off guard!

I woke up last night and unplugged phone but forgot to shut charge port and lost the rubber piece for it. Found half of it this morning on the floor at home and the other half will probably be in the cats litter box in a couple days:( Went out looking for something at the hardware store and ended up giving customer service a call. They answered in under a minute and said that they would send me two replacement rubber pieces!!! Just got a email an hour ago and it's even been shipped:eek:!!!

Yea I know good story bro right lol? Anyways I am happy with LifeProof and also looking forward to seeing the new Olive drab green/black.

Fixes for Lifeproof Fré Case

The Zagg glare and smudge resistant shield DOES eliminate the newton rings (rainbow effect). Also helps with the glare if you are by the pool, which considering you have a waterproof case, you just might be by the pool. Wild guess. Although Lifeproof says not to use it, the Zagg has no negative effect on the case or the sensitivity of your touchscreen. Works like charm. Just to be clear, you install the Zagg on the phone, not the case. For some reason I feel like I need to point that out.

The next topic is the buzzing in the ear while you are talking to someone. I recently posted to cover the mic on the back (mic used for noise cancelation) with scotch tape. This does eliminate the buzzing, however the same mic is used for recording video (unless you are using the front camera, i.e. FaceTime) as well as the mic that is used for speakerphone. Covering the mic with tape will keep you from using those features.

I recently tried turning off the noise canceling from the iPhone setting. What I was able to discover is something called "hearing aid mode".

Go to Settings> General> Accessibility> Hearing Aids> then turn the hearing aid mode ON.

So far so good on the buzzing.....while allowing me to still talk on speakerphone and record sound with video. Keep in mind that those sound qualities are limited already because of the case. If you record lots of sound, say like a reporter doing an interview, you can probably buy a external mic that plugs in like headphones. Just another thought.

Good luck with your LP cases. I know that they aren't perfect, but if you find that using these techniques gets you past the case's flaws, then just maybe we are finally getting somewhere.

My next challenge is to find a way to keep the screen cover from bowing (or bubbling) up. This happened before the Zagg was added, so I know it's not causing the effect. It seems that over time I start to get a bubble right over the home button. My guess is because this part of the screen is used the most, unlocking the phone and whatnot.

What number do I need to look for on a black lp case to get the latest revision?

Edit - Nevermind, I went back and read about 20 pages and I think I have a feel for it now. Thanks.

Ok. I picked one of these up yesterday at Bestbuy and got a 700k number. The case seems like I got a good one. Did the compressed air trick and had no oil canning for the first day. This morning I noticed I have a slight oil can. How often do you guys have to do the compressed air trick?

If you really want to knock it out for good, get the zagg glare/smudge proof shield. No rings....ever.

Thanks for the info. What does this zagg do the screen clarity. I haven't had a glare proof protector in years but I remember the old ones used to really make the screens look bad.

Using a matte/antiglare screen protector takes the oils slicks out when using it with the LifeProof case. I had no problems with screen functionality but it does take away the clarity of the retina display.

Right now I have no screen protector and have minimal oil slicks. From what I read before that using a air can and blasting it into the case before securing it will get rid of the oil slicks, that's with out a screen protector. Doing a search will help better understand of this process.

Honestly, it's not that bad. Also, glare resistent if you're by the pool this summer. Trust me, I'm major OCD, and if I didn't like the clarity post Zagg, I'd rip it off.

went to best buy yesterday and decided to give it another shot...used it for 10 hours and now its back off and ready to be returned..

This is my daily case, thinnest of all compared to otter box and others. I did have a vibration noise issue but easy fix with a piece of paper. I have minor rainbow effects, going to try the baby powder or aerosol can. I had a matte screen protector but i like clarity of screen so i took it off. When I feel the urge to go naked, I use my power support flat bumper.

i know we always ask about problems with this case...is anyone actually really happy with it and uses it daily..loved it for my iphone 4, so far tried 3 for iphone 5 and hated it... cant live with it, cant live without it.

I love it. I don't use it daily. I use different cases each day but its one case I use a lot. The oil slicks do bother me sometimes but not that much. I have the all black one and had the red one but I just bought the carbon red slick wraps for the black and returned the red. The red carbon fiber on the black LP case looks sick. I love the case tho.

I use it daily. Would not have another case. The 5 case has worse Newton's rings then the 4S case (because it's so much longer) but I really don't care. The buzzing during a call was annoying but can be completely cured by going to accessibility settings and turning off the noise reduction for hearing aids. This stops it completely with no side effects that I can hear. A few days ago while on a long drive I spilled a half cup of hot coffee all over the phone...result? Nothing. Wiped it off and it was fine. It's not perfect and there will never be a totally sealed case that is, but this is by far the best right now for me, given the size and performance. However, I am on the water most every weekend and I have a good reason to need a waterproof case.

I also love my case and use it daily. I did NOT love it at first, but now that I have permanently fixed the buzzing and rainbow effect problems, I really enjoy the case. It's thin, protects my phone, and looks good.

I feel like over time the screen cover starts to bubble up. Over the home button. I fixed the other two problems, so I'm sure I'll fix this one too.

Stay tuned.
