Industrial Light and Magic documentary, started it last night, 2 episodes in, the Star Wars episodes. I had realized that this movie, had been a challenge to make, I just did not realize what a challenge. Hollywood in the days before CGI, had no capability to create such a visual presentation using practical effects. George Lucas hired a bunch of people into special effects outside the Disney realm and tasked them to create the means, which meant taking old Vista Vision movie camera equipment and building the motion capture camera computerized system used to film spaceship models flying though space, from scratch. Cost over runs, a grumpy studio, they came down to the wire.

I’ve known about ILM as an entity as a long time, maybe I’ve forgotten or just had no clue how many big movies they created effects for Spielberg, Howard, among others, just getting up to Jurassic Park (E6).

Watching the Starwars Episode 1 episode (Season 2 Episode 1)- great stuff, other than the plot…and the acting. Jar Jar was the worst, but this is how Lucas wanted him, dopey.
