Hmmm. Never thought amazon will allow a vendor to sell fake apple acc on their site. I need to be careful now. Thanks for the input.

Amazon doesn't police this stuff (it seems). Long been a problem with phone cases and similar.

I quit buying any name-brand stuff from third-party vendors on Amazon due to this problem. No telling if that Incipio Feather or Apple SmartCover is genuine or fake. I'll buy them only if literally sold by Amazon and not by a 3rd party vendor.

Here are a bunch of lightning cables from amazon:
Here is one that is not MFi certified but I have it and it works plus is identical to Apples. I had to label it that it was not certified because it looked so identical:

I'm still waiting for my 5S to come in but I have a Graft Concepts i5 case waiting for it along with a 6ft iSmooth lightning cable that seems to fit the opening fine. Yet to test the quality of the cable with the phone as it hasn't arrived but it but I can report back on Thursday.

I just picked up a 2m Apple lightning cable after work and it does not go though my Graft case without a little push....hmm...

I want to know what he is trying to achieve by buying a third-party cable.

Going to Apples sales site, I have noticed a number of bad reviews of their cable not holding up. I to will have a back up cable just in case. OP might be thinking same. ;)

Haven't bought, but had in wishlist for a while.

Look up the iSmooth brand cables on Amazon.
Decent price, claim certification, and appear and based on comments sound like they are the same size as Apple official.

iSmooth is not apple certified. If you read closely it has the same Apple certified picture but it said DESIGNED for iPhone.

I just got this one today: http://amzn.com/B00ENO0414

It's just slightly bigger than the Apple branded one, but not much. And so far it works perfectly, no error message.

Monoprice actually lists the dimensions of the connector on their cables so if you've got a ruler you can compare it with Apple's yourself.

The Monoprice cable is pretty wide. It does not fit with my Magpul case on.

A number of recent Amazon reviewers are claiming that this cable is not working with their 5s

Just got my 5s today and the 1m cable fits the opening fine, using my calipers looks like the 2m cable housing is slightly thicker....makes no sense.

The 2m iSmooth cable fits very well and I dont get any kind of message/error on my 5S. Probably doesnt matter since you picked up the official one but for anyone wondering, they seem to do the job.

I checked out the Griffin USB to lightning cable. The lightning termination is slightly bigger than the Apple cable, but it is not to much bigger. The Griffin cable worked fine with my Magpul case

I'm conflicted. My wife and I bought a pair of iPhone 5S phones (first lightning devices), and I wanted some additional cables for charging/etc.

I want a slim design so I don't have any case problems now or in the future (have a magpul case), but the OEM cables seem to get real bad marks in the durability department:

Whats the deal with all the horrible reviews? I looked at the Griffin cable it has its share of complaints as well:

Bonus confusion - Amazon description says 2' but the GC36670 part number is the 3' version :) Also, I only see Marketplace vendors - too many issues with counterfits. Didn't think I'd spend more time researching the cables than my phone purchase!
