I bet that within a week ebay and Amazon will be flooded with ads for cheap Chinese rip-off adapters for $2.99 +$10 shipping that will work inconsistently.

I find this thread, very amusing. Yes Apple goofed up the description for the adapter and fixed it. No one could have relied on their detriment on the error, even if you saw the prior description for the adapter and didn't order one with your iPhone 5, other than avoiding some shipping costs. The adapters aren't even shipping until October, so you can still order one and get it in October as you would have had you done it with your pre-order--now you may have a decent argument to have Apple waive the shipping for now buying the adapter separately (because if you had ordered an iPhone 5 and the adapter at the same time, the shipping would have been free).

At no point was there an error in the "In the Box" description for the iPhone 5. Now I, as much as anyone else, like "something for nothing" but come on folks--did you really think you would be getting a lightening adapter with the iPhone 5 based on the description of the accessory adapter and not the description of what's included in the box, of the iPhone 5? :)

I think you completely ignore the back end of what had to happen to get those specific words on the page. "Goofed up" does not really describe it.

The only explanations that make sense to me are:
1) Apple was planning to provide them free but changed their minds
2) Apple is providing them free, but only for certain buyers in certain situations

This isnt a "typo" or an incorrect description from another accessory. The wording was very specific to the lightning adapter.

I would love to see clarification from Apple.

It would be interesting to see how Apple plays it.

If that happened to me as a seller (through Distant Selling regulations and SOGA), I'd probably send out the adapters to those who were affected in the time frame - because I'd rather kill a situation before it grew.

Seeing as it said it was included, yes I did.

You can roll over and be "amused" if you like, I won't. Apple could easily afford to bung one in the box, they're the richest company in the world.

If they backpedal and don't include an adapter I'll be more than a little pissed. I was going to buy one anyway, but didn't include it in the order because I don't need two.

Uproar would be justified I think. Especially as it looks like they planned on giving them away with the phone in the first place.
