I find this thread, very amusing. Yes Apple goofed up the description for the adapter and fixed it. No one could have relied on their detriment on the error, even if you saw the prior description for the adapter and didn't order one with your iPhone 5, other than avoiding some shipping costs. The adapters aren't even shipping until October, so you can still order one and get it in October as you would have had you done it with your pre-order--now you may have a decent argument to have Apple waive the shipping for now buying the adapter separately (because if you had ordered an iPhone 5 and the adapter at the same time, the shipping would have been free).
At no point was there an error in the "In the Box" description for the iPhone 5. Now I, as much as anyone else, like "something for nothing" but come on folks--did you really think you would be getting a lightening adapter with the iPhone 5 based on the description of the accessory adapter and not the description of what's included in the box, of the iPhone 5? 🙂
