I think I've been the most patient on this forum. I'm still using the first generation iPhone. It's been about 3 years now.

-Could shipping of the white bumpers be a clue to the white iPhone's release?
My free white bumper shipped the 23rd, & will arrive on the 28th...

Just saying.

Well as long as I can get it by August 2nd or so I'll be happy, as I can't really continue going phoneless.

What 30-day window? 30-day window of launch day buyers? 30-day window of second-day buyers? 30-day window of last week's buyers? Apple wouldn't place any discrepancy on iPhone buyers depending on when they bought it.

There's no reason Apple would care even the slightest bit about people swapping black iPhone 4s for whites. Here's why.

1) a return with intent to buy is still a sold iPhone for Apple. they don't lose any profit.
2) with black iPhone 4s being returned, more black iPhone 4s will be available to those who want black. We all know that's a lot of people.
3) if you're honestly judging the amount of black-to-white returns by what you see here on MacRumors, remember that all 3 million people who have bought iPhone 4 aren't represented on MacRumors, and that even still, the amount of people who are saying they will be swapping (on MacRumors) is very little -- at maximum, probably 50. But for argument's sake, let's say that 100,000 people are going to swap black-to-white. I figure that is a reasonable guess. That's still only 0.03% of phones that will be swapped. And still, why would Apple care? See #1.

The "30-day window" has absolutely nothing to do with when the white iPhone 4 will be released. If it happens to be after the "30-day window" (which is still an amazingly vague concept) it'll be mere coincidence. I'm just hoping the release is tomorrow!

Seriously? Apple would care for the same reason any company doesn't like having BRAND NEW items returned - they cant these USED items as BRAND NEW. Lets say Apple makes XX dollars in pure profit on every new iPhone they sell. When it is returned and have to resell it in another fashion as used, they make less than XX dollars. Thats why they would care, even though they are selling ANOTHER phone and making that second XX dollars, they could have made the XX dollars on BOTH sales (esp. the case with the high demand). Although you are right that on that single transaction they do not appear to lose profit, they lost the ability to make twice the profit - so they don't gain money that they could have (Thats called losing money).

huh?

youre misinformed. anytime someone purchases a product, weather it's full price or discounted...they make money(unless it's below cost-which doesn't happen at apple).

Cheers mate!

Thats fine and dandy - but totally not the point. Its not a question of whether or not they make a profit, but rather a question of how much profit they make. They could have sold two BRAND NEW PHONES (lets say they make $100 on new phones and $50 on used for kicks) and made $200 profit. After they HAD to sell one of the phones as used they only make $150 profit - thus losing $50 in potential profit. Are you really trying to tell me that businesses like people buying products, returning them for the same product, and having to re-package and re-sell the first product for a discounted rate?

Try reading the post next time before you make an idiotic comment.

actually...yeah. because that person potentially could have NOT bought that phone. case in point, no one HAS to buy a used phone. they chose to for obvious reasons...its cheaper. Apple may not have had their business otherwise.

its the same reason companies offer discounts, so they entise people to buy their poducts. by offering a discount on a phone that is dubed used, they still make profit. In a perfect world, no one returns anything and everyone buys from one company. That's not the case. Anytime a company sells a product to an individual with a profit, it's good business.
