I was told that the only advantages are preserving the baseband as well as being able to choose custom boot logos and partitions. For me, the only thing that mattered was preserving my baseband so that's why I upgraded to 4.1 using TinyUmbrella and used greenpois0n to jb.
For the pwnage tool, I have a mac but my gf has a pc. Could I just jailbreak her phone using my mac even though her backups is on itunes pc?
I ran limera1n and it did not install cydia.
Re-started like I had seen posted in the windows version thread and still not visible. Re-running it to see if it was just a goof
edit: nvm I am an idiot, I just needed to open the limera1n app on the phone to install cydia

Should work. I JB my 3Gs on my windows partition since Limera1n was Windows only when it first came out but I have all my apps/data on my OSX side.
I am currently jailbroke on 4.0.1 I'm getting ready to jb using limera1n. If I back up my currently jb phone in iTunes and restore able I update and rejailbreak will my text messages carry over as the normally would?? Would this cause any issues ?

Newb question, but one i cant find an answer for and believe I've searched. if I'm happy with my carrier locked ip4... Can I just go ahead and update to firmware 4.1 via itunes then proceed to jb? Without the hoo har of using tinyumbrella and pwnage etc

If you need an unlock (and are using an iPhone 4), use TinyUmbrella to perserve your baseband when upgrading to 4,1.
If you don't, then just upgrade and run Limera1n or Greenpois0n.
guys just wondering will limera1n jb my apple tv if i plug it into my computer via mini- usb? also im getting my apple tv tomorrow so i cant really test it my self. also i know pwnage tool is coming out soon tho i rather just flash than custom firmware it.
i am upgrading to 4.1 now.. though its been stuck on the apple logo with half of the bar filled for about 25 minutes.. any ideas?
itunes shows "updating iphone software" and the bar is almost filled but nothing has moved in 25 minutes

Quick question, will this RESTORE or UPDATE your iPhone to 4.1? I don't want to lose my game saves, so I probably won't do it if it's a restore.

Yes. I had wifi sync. Uninstall that from your Mac. Then restarted your computer. Then on the restore if you get error 1004 download Recboot and open the "out of recovery" file or whatever (second one). Good luck!
