There goes Apple's indie credibility. To people wondering why this is such a shock, and how people must just hate "popular" bands (Linkin Park is not that popular), you must first consider these two things:

1) You have no taste in music. Not good or bad taste, just no taste if you think that's why people don't like this group, or any group for that matter.

2) Apple has used Feist and Yael Naim in advertising campaigns, as well as awesome indie bands at SoHo Apple Store concerts, like Annuals. You probably have never heard of any of these artists, but that doesn't mean they're less suitable for something like this.

If you're going to say Linkin Park suck - I think it only fair you name a substitute that you think would do a decent job of it.

How about "The Mars Volta"?
I would say they "think different" at least...

I thought Linkin Park was like a one hit wonder band. Why such a small buget??!!!

anyway...can't wait for the event.

you know what always pisses me off? When people hate on a band just because somebody else hates them. Thats my theory on how bands get hated on. some "cool" hipster guy accuses a band of being "unoriginal" and thus starts the wave of hatred. I think people hate on a band because they just want to fit in..

SO...you guys hate linkin' park. Thats cool, but what is your reason?

It's hard to explain. It's a gut feeling. Imagine if someone took the worst bands you know, put them in a blender and made you drink it? That's how Linkin Park sounds. Like the taste of bad musician puree.

Or wait, they sound like an ultra-commercial, watered down mix of lame teenage angst rock and crap rap! That's more it, actually!

Here's what I listen to, so you can hate me back. If you're a fan of Linkin Park, my bet is you don't know more than 5 of the top 50 artists I listen to (proving that I'm a mindless hipster wannabe wanting to fit in with the cool crowd, and that LP fans don't know much about music).

Good point. Although it could actually happen between now an Thursday. Has Apple had one of these events on a Thursday in the past?

Funny how once a band gets POPULAR even if the music is good...then SUDDENLY they SUCK:mad:

Kinna like METALLICA did....although that last album really did SUCK

LP is really good and very innovative innovative

AND they SELL OUT the BIG CONCERTY VENUES so having them do something for Apple is a big plus

Meh; Linkin Park ALWAYS sucked-popularity has nothing to do with it (to me anyway).

Radiohead is also (very) popular; but I LOVE them!

I never cared for Metallica as metal was never my cup of tea.

Why are you guys complaining? I like Linkin Park, but why would you prefer those poppy jazz crappers over Linkin Park?

Rockin' Event ?

Hi,

Maybe they're not going to use L. Park for iphone/ipod touch, but for an event that rocks!
Like the now very long awaited MBP revamp.

Boy, if they don't upgrade the MBP soon, I'll have to switch back to Archlinux…
I really need a new laptop. So far I've been really happy with my '06 MB, but I need a stronger medicine ;)

Can't wait till next tuesdays.

Cheers,

Refresher

Wasn't this one of the same bands who didn't like the whole idea of iTunes because the ability to download individual songs "ruined the concept of an album". I believe it was LP, Metallica, RHCP, and Green Day.

Of course, when record labels tell you to jump...

Hey guys, you don't like my favorite band! You must not know what you're talking about!

Are you 14? I ask this not because of your obvious taste (though that is a valid point) but more because of your style of argument.

linkin park may not be the best band out there, but they sure beat that old artist that performed at macworld this year.
ugg. i know i shouldn't bite, but genre specific personal taste aside, if you honestly compare the two artists in question, randy newman has linkin park beat in lyrical depth, social message/impact, musical composition, and instrument proficiency.
not saying everyone (or anyone) has to like the sound of his voice or agree with his views, but the man is an extremely skillful and talented writer and musician.

What would your take be on someone who listened to say 75% of the music you do, plus bands like Linkin Park, Nickleback, or a Kenny Chesney. Sage Francis is pretty out there as far as your tastes go, but there you go.

Where are the invites? I can see it now. Steve Jobs standing at the Time Square store, 3000 developers just happen to walk by, take a seat, Steve rocks the world with announcements and then Linkin Park plays. Random works I guess.

Wow, why so much hate. Music is the most subjective thing ever. Not so sure about composition, but how good one band sounds is entirely personal. And I hate the way people use music and bands to define themselves as this or that, most just come off as snobs, whether indie rock or rap. Define yourself sure, but not as better than someone else because of their favs.

I'd say that you're 75% OK. And that it's time for me to begin listening purely to Deep house.

;)

As much as Linkin Park and Fort Minor suck, it kind of makes sense for Apple to book them for this event. After all, how many loops from GarageBand did Mike use for his first Fort Minor album?

Hey, don't hate on Linkin Park, they're not THAT bad in my opinion. I like their earlier stuff like Reanimation (hip-hop collaboration) and the thing they did with Jay-Z.

Either way if an SDK does comes out or something exciting isn't that what truly matters here?
