Bottom line: Musical taste is subjective, and in terms of popularity, talent is arbitrary.

Some people like screaming and simple power chord progressions; some don't. Is there really need to argue about it? LP is an A list band. They sell out shows, so maybe Apple is simply trying to appeal to different audiences.

P.S. Regardless of ones interest in LP. This rumor is a good sign and certainly more credible than the, "I know a guy who knows a guy" rumors we've been dealing with since MWSF 2008. (That said, I still believe Tailpipe).

People need to stop hating on Linkin Park  Just because you don't like the sound of their music doesn't mean they suck. saule cogneur pretty much hit the nail on the head a couple of posts above.

More on topic though, for some reason I can picture them performing around the time they have an official show in NYC, but next week some time between Tuesday and Friday would be more realistic. Gah, who knows. Hopefully there will be more info about the "event" soon.

I think that they should play angels and airwaves.
And the SDK would be FREE for the iphone owners and make iPod touch owners pay 20$ just like last update
:D

oh hell, I dont think LP lawyer's is likin' Mike right about now...

I can just see it now...

Come on, do you seriously think that he accidentally leaked this to apple insider of all groups? This is a completely staged PR move to get people talking about apple ahead of the event and to keep the fan boyz happy for a little while....

Here's what I listen to, so you can hate me back. If you're a fan of Linkin Park, my bet is you don't know more than 5 of the top 50 artists I listen to (proving that I'm a mindless hipster wannabe wanting to fit in with the cool crowd, and that LP fans don't know much about music).

So you listen to whatever Pitchfork tells you to? That's cool...

:p

That's pretty gay hiring a west coast band to perform in NYC.

Yeah, I'm sure they were taking into account the band's hometown when putting this together.

How dare they insult NYC like that. It's about time people in the rest of the world started treating New York with the respect the locals give it - in other words, acting like it's the greatest place on the planet.

Why isn't this posted on Page 2? Performers at an Apple event is not something people look forward to discovering when they type in the URL for macrumors.

I can't wait for the new MBP!!
vs.
I can't wait for the performing artist at the next Apple event to be announced!!

Which one just doesn't sound right?

Linkin Park may have lost their original nu-metal edge, but they are still an excellent band. They are true innovators like apple.

You hating LP = You hating innovation = You hating everything Apple stands for

I'm glad Apple is moving away from the older artists. Anyway, it should be about the mac, not the music.

dear god, worst band ever. Apple....you suck. Not that I care, I'm not going...but anything that links the worst band ever with the best company ever....makes for one crappy combination.

man they suck. i dont understand how anyone can like the band. You need to have absolutely no sense of musical taste or history or theory to actually sit down, listen to that dribble and say "hey, this is actually good". I have never been able to decide who actually sucks more....Linkin Park or Smashmouth.

Yep, it's just amazing to see people liking those losers or any other nu-metal wannabe...I still remember when Korn said they were like the new heavy metal or the successors of Iron Maiden...these guys should just get back to the garage and listen to real rock instead of being such a ridiculous display of how low modern US metal has gone...not to mention Metallica and their painted nails, of course...

Can any of you honestly say that whoever plays is going to over shadow whatever is released? I don't think so...

Aside from an onslaught of ellipses, this is pretty much it. ***** "Nü-Metal" -- that's right, with the umlaut. God. I'm not a huge metal fan, but even I can see it: They took one of the most badass genres of rock and turned it into "guys my girlfriend left me!!!! hlp plz". Basically what Green Day, Good Charlotte and Blink-182 did to punk. They intentionally made it commercial so that the lowest common denominator would buy the album.

This really has nothing to do with snobbery. It indeed has more to do with knowing what the frick about music. And don't give me that "but it sounds good!" BS. That's how the Nazis took over Germany!

The main point is that this supports the rumors of an upcoming event, not specifics about the band...

I wish I had tickets to that show, I live in NYC.

You must have missed my craig's list posting, just sold 2 good seats today! Gonna be a great concert!

If Linkin Park is playing, hoping for more that just the SDK. New MBP's maybe?? :)

LOL, I love the people who think they KNOW that LP sucks because THEY KNOW MUSIC. Music has always been art, and art will always be subjective.

I'm not a Linkin Park fan. But to see posts about them sucking or whatever is just your subjective personal taste. Seeing as this is about Apple news and an event and all you have to say is that you bag on Linkin Park.

Well that's about as subjective as me saying that you're a total idiot. A complete moron. Well, except for the fact that you are.

Appreciation of music is subjective, but history of music is a science.

They could have booked (insert any band/artist), and people would still say (insert any band/artist) sucks, overrated, blah, blah, blah.

Seriously, who cares if you like them or not. I think it's a good move. And I'm not even a fan of Park.

If apple was having an announcement next week, wouldn't they have announced the event by now? Usually they give a week minimum on events. Well its the 19th and next Tuesday is the 26th....

Also, the first LP album was good, and its gone downhill since then.

I'm going to say that Linkin Park has made a handful of songs that I enjoy very much.

Wuh oh! See what I did just there? :p

A friend of mine also bought their first cd randomly a year before they even hit the radio...

Appreciation of music is subjective, but history of music is a science.

History of music is equally subjective in choosing what is included, what isn't, what is deemed important, and how each period and artist is characterized. Wind is music. So is silence.
