Why do you think I hardly ever post here? It's embarrassing to have your name next to these posts.

In other news, it's recently been discovered that Apple is using illegal and strong-arm tactics to ensure that Macintosh manufacturers only ship computers with Mac OS X 10.3 pre-installed. It's also rumored that Apple will force the Macintoshes to ship with Mac OS X 10.4 once it's released. OS 9 holdouts ("Squares") and 10.0 enthusiasts ("Rounders") are up in arms about the lack of choice and Apple's abuse of their market position. Apple is being investigated by the DOJ for anti-competitive practices.
Wasn't this settled? The odd numbers denote power macs and the evens consumer desktops, i.e. iMacs and eMacs. The 8,1 should signal a completely new G5 iMac due in September (and presumably originally due this month) or something else completely new, perhaps the G5 Cube or G5 headless blah blah.oliverlubin said:So has anyone figure out yet what the code is for the gen2 G5? Is it PowerMac7,3 or PowerMac8,1? Anyone want to bite?
paxtonandrew said:I use Konfabulator, and I really love it, but I think it needs to have ore International support. The only Australian widget i seem to be able to use is the weather. Stock tracker won't work outside the USA.
recursivejon said:If you want some so bady, you could probably mod some existing widgets and make some Australia-specific.
I guess the Konfabulator vs. Dashbord comes down to how easily one can make their own custom widgets.
coumerelli said:Right now, all I need is support for my new Motorola v600 phone. I can connect and use 3rd party apps, but NOTHING of Apple's works with it as far as I can tell - BT file exchange, iSync, AB, nothing....
c'mon 10.3.5 *crosses fingers*
The Red Wolf said:Okay, I was at the WWDC in San Francisco. After finding my peripheral vision could not take in 60" worth of display sitting next to a G5 (at the normal distance you would view a display while at a machine), I decided to check out the OS info. 10.3.5 Those gathered were impressed. As it was running on the dual 2.5 and this thread is about the dual 2.5... 10.3.5 is and update for the hardware gunning the cooling system and all the nVidia drivers for the huge 6800 card to power twin 30" displays. I'm sure there will be standard bug and security fixes but those are the two main points. A year ago the G5's were shipping with 10.2.7 for software to drive the fans.
GFLPraxis said:If I recall, 10.2.7's main use was 64-bit extensions for the G5.
Another possibility. If you look at "Tiger Theater" on Apple's Tiger Preview page, on the one about Spotlight in the Preferences panel...you'll notice a new section, titled "Processor" at the very bottom underneath all the other stuff like Keyboard, Desktop Picture, etc. If this processor tab is also in 10.3.5... Perhaps 10.3.5 allows the user to control the water cooling or scale the processor speeds?

We've got 3 of these machines ordered and they will be our main production workstations from day 1...
Don't want any probs at all!

Wonder Boy said:i want to get the v600. i have the c331, and it's great but i'm being strong armed by cingular to get a new phone. so im switching to verizon! anyway, i hope 10.3.5 also brings new versions of ical, address book, and especially isync.

savar said:23GB in your home folder!?! I guess you're making heavy use of that Movies folder.
Well if the turnover in your homefolder is high (ie. you work on several large DV files in between each iPod sync), then even a 40GB iPod won't be too helpful. Firewire is pretty fast, but syncing 5-10GB every time you dock your iPod? That would be way too cumbersome.
Cless said:I thought PowerMac8,1 was already determined to be the next iMac. Didn't someone outline the model names and their correlation to the actual models in another thread? My memory's fuzzy, but IIRC, the odd numbered ones (PowerMac1 3 5 and 7,whatever) were PowerMac towers, whereas the even numbered ones (PowerMac2 4 6 and now 8,whatever) are the iMacs/eMacs. But I could easily be wrong about that.
However, PowerMac8,1 is the new iMac.
