maybe apple will get off their ass and fix the stupid bug in .3.4 that de-activates iBook500's internal mic. From what I gather in the apple discussion forums, the problem is only limited to this model.

Of course, being nearly 3 years old, I guess my beautiful icebook is considered irrelevant to apple (can you tell I'm a little frustrated? :( )
Lots of people do seem to have experienced that problem, although my iBook 500's mic works fine. I know of no explanation for why so many are affected, and mine is not.

I'm up for any bugfixes and features Apple chooses to throw our way. I wouldn't rule out home-on-iPod or other minor new features, Apple's done quiet new features in point releases before (though it doesn't happen often).

Right now, all I need is support for my new Motorola v600 phone. I can connect and use 3rd party apps, but NOTHING of Apple's works with it as far as I can tell - BT file exchange, iSync, AB, nothing....

c'mon 10.3.5 *crosses fingers*

i want to get the v600. i have the c331, and it's great but i'm being strong armed by cingular to get a new phone. so im switching to verizon! anyway, i hope 10.3.5 also brings new versions of ical, address book, and especially isync.

ps. coumerelli, is the v600 a good phone? :)

It means putting your home folder on your iPod. So that way, no matter what computer you go to, your User Name will show up in the user name list, because you plug your ipod in.

You will be able to access all your documents, music, files, etc... And all your settings, your wallpaper, etc... will show up too, on ANY computer.

Sorry to go off topic, but the v600 isn't available for Verizon. The closest you will get is the forthcoming v710. However, when it will be released is still anyone's guess.

Back to the topic at hand! :)

READ MY LIPS: NO NEW FEATURES. Sheesh will you Home-on-iPod people SHUT UP!

Sheesh. It's not like we are looking for g5 powerbooks. Home on iPod is a really snazzy feature that I think a lot of people would use. Calm down.

only makes sense for the 40gb ipod owners, right? my home folder is 23gb and i only have a 15gb ipod. you'd need a large ipod for this to make sense, right?

I gave up waitting for the v600, I couldn't even get the T630, so ended up with the t610 - for those using this phone there are mac screen sets for your phone at http://www.myt610.net

Edit: thats funny about konfabulator... not really fair to the peeps who make it. first they copy it, and then they shut it down..

This all sounds familliar. This sounds like Apple are turining into Microsoft, with their buy copy and (in Apple's Case, Try to) shut them down. I use Konfabulator, and I really love it, but I think it needs to have ore International support. The only Australian widget i seem to be able to use is the weather. Stock tracker won't work outside the USA.

Anyhow, back to 10.3.5, I don't expect anythink radical. It will be another Broadband downloader, possible 65-70mb, with some work on Expose, and maybe a new Safari(pre.RSS), but I mainly expect bug fixes and more work on the Unix.

maybe you could pick and choose what it is you want to sync up. like, i wouldn't want to sync up my movies folder, or maybe sync only the current movie project i was working on and not all the past stuff. and would you really be able to run applications from an iPod? i'm not so sure that would always work right. yeah this is a pretty cool idea.

large ipod, or a small home folder.

I'm assuming you could also select which folders and apps to cart along with you since most people wouldn't need to take everything with them all the time. As always I would expect the trademark ease of use that Apple is known for.

Why would those runnning 10.3.5 on a new mac upgrade to 10.3.5 . 10.3.5 will be released through software update for users of older Macs whereas new Macs will already have it installed. Don't see where the confusion is.

Because the article states they are running a pre-release build of 10.3.5 which has bugs in it. They won't release that version to everyone and they'll want the owners of the buggy systems to upgrade. There would otherwise be two 10.3.5s out there as I said. Makes more sense for them to label it 10.3.6 and get everybody to upgrade.

And to clarify my position on H-o-iP, yes it would be a great new feature, and yes it will probably happen but every time there's a piddling little incremental update a bunch of people show up expecting it to have H-o-iP included. Well I'll state categorically that this WILL NOT HAPPEN in 10.3.5, 10.3.6, 10.3.7 or 10.3.8 or 10.3.9 or 10.3.10 or.. I mean I could go on. It won't happen until AT LEAST 10.4.

That's how Apple's Backup works, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Not to continue to hijack this thread but...

Go to this this link and read the text under the "The Dashboard Controversy" (don't worry, it's short).

Here is the original story for Home On iPod which was discovered shortly after the official release date for Panther was announced on October 8, 2003.

Also, here is a MacRumors mirror of Apple's site which briefly mentioned Home On iPod (briefly as in a about 10 minutes).

23GB in your home folder!?! I guess you're making heavy use of that Movies folder.

Well if the turnover in your homefolder is high (ie. you work on several large DV files in between each iPod sync), then even a 40GB iPod won't be too helpful. Firewire is pretty fast, but syncing 5-10GB every time you dock your iPod? That would be way too cumbersome.

A little perspective....

10.3.5 supports cooling.... can 10.3.4 do that? I'd say that's pretty big. Note though I'm on 10.2.8 patiently waiting for "TEN.FOUR". I've bought every iteration up to that point. (kinda don't like how each revision has it's own 'personality', kinda made me think we'd be paying yearly forever, so I'm holding off. 10.4.1 should be great! And 10.4.8 will be The biggest release in Apple's History! uh..., 'til 11 or was that XI?)

oh yeah... you couldn't possibly want 10.3.5 on anything other than a top of the line liquid cooled machine. 10.3.6 will come soon enough.

hurry up with the friggin orders already...

Even though I want mine badly also, I want Apple to take their time.

There are a lot of technical changes in the 2.5Ghz, and whenever Apple rushes things, the results are poor.

For the 6 grand I just spent, I will gladly wait to have the dream machine which will last me for the next few years.

remember this info...?

quoted from this thread:

From MacOSX 10.3.4's /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMacRISC4PE.kext/Contents/Info.plist
<key>PowerMac7,2</key>
<string>PowerMac7_2_PlatformPlugin</string>
<key>PowerMac7,3</key>

<key>PowerMac8,1</key>
<string>SMU_Neo2_PlatformPlugin</string>
<key>RackMac3,1</key>

PowerMac7,2 is current PowerMac G5.
We haven't seen PowerMac7,3.
RackMac3,1 is Xserve.

What the *** is PowerMac8,1???

========================

So has anyone figure out yet what the code is for the gen2 G5? Is it PowerMac7,3 or PowerMac8,1? Anyone want to bite?

Jesus, it was a JOKE. Doesn't anyone here have a sense of humor?

In other news, it's recently been discovered that Apple is using illegal and strong-arm tactics to ensure that Macintosh manufacturers only ship computers with Mac OS X 10.3 pre-installed. It's also rumored that Apple will force the Macintoshes to ship with Mac OS X 10.4 once it's released. OS 9 holdouts ("Squares") and 10.0 enthusiasts ("Rounders") are up in arms about the lack of choice and Apple's abuse of their market position. Apple is being investigated by the DOJ for anti-competitive practices.

in protools use the 10.3.4 version has been the most significant upgrade ever - together with protools 6.4 that combination makes the most responsive protools environment on osx so far. one could claim that protools is now as fast in osx than it ever was in pre-osx era.

About 50%+ of the installed base uses OS9 (or before). Are you saying OSX is finally as responsive as OS9? On Macs where the option exists of course :)
