This is sad for me. I bought all 3 of my Macs at CompUSA. The one I shopped at had Apple knowlegable staff hovering around the Apple section of the store and they knew their stuff. Best Buy also sells Apple items but the customer service sucks and they don't know anything about Apple products.

According to a CompUSA press release that I read last night, the liquidators were supposed to be taking over all of the closing stores effective today (Feb 28th). Therefore, I would assume that the store closing sales should begin almost immediately. All of the stores on the hit list are targeted to be shuttered for good within 60-90 days from today.

To sum up the link posted by devilot above. Don't really expect any major sales for the next coupla weeks. As it gets closer to shutterup time, there will be more (better) sales.

that's the store i was talking about. and your experience is exactly what i encountered. this store was mismanaged. even if all the products and prices were fine i wouldn't want to buy there. it's sad but this store manager deserves to lose his job.:(

it wasn't the best organized store, but i never found it all that bad. Certainly not like the horror story related above!

What an odd way to close stores. This seems all very shady.

I thought that liquidators were usually used when the company is going bankrupt. It's so strange that CompUSA is not handling the closing themselves (ie transferring product back into their inventory).

It is also weird that they announced a few days ago that they would close just 4 stores (and didn't even mention the closing of 100 stores), and then turn around and announce this. My prediction: CompUSA will be bankrupt and gone in 3 years.

Sad too: They actually now have one of the best return policies (after having the worst for a long time). They don't charge the open box fee on defective merchandise anymore.

Do you know when the Oxnard store is closing?

60-90 days like the rest of them I suspect. Good Guys in Ventura seemed to stay open for months without particularly large discounts after the closing was announced.

Interesting that SB/Goleta was spared.

When Radio Shack closed a store near me last summer they did the same thing. We didn't know it until my son tried to take back something that he bought to another store and was told that he had bought from a liquidator, and Radio Shack has no connection to it any longer.

They used to charge a restocking fee for defective merchandise? I know CompUSSR was bad, but didn't know it was that bad.

I guess I am lucky because I live about 5 minutes away from a Micro Center. Now THAT is one of the best stores around for computers. I bought both my iBook and my iPod there, and really like their return policy. For peripherals, they are fairly liberal, and they often sell returned merchandise (which is still working) at a discount!

I'm going to stop and see if the local CompUSSR in Beachwood, OH is already closed, or if they are doing a liquidation. If they are selling off inventory, I might actually have a reason to buy.

Yes, I remember. I bought a couple of accessories at 50% off, but it was close to the bare walls by then. Funny, they still haven't taken the Good Guys signs off the building, or the posters out of the windows, even. I might be lured down to the Oxnard CompUSA for a 10% discount on Macs, if that ever happened and they had some stock left.

It sounds like we must be neighbors. What do you know. Hey, neighbor! :)

I just went by a CompUSA today, and everything was still regular price. Software, accessories, RAM, absolutely nothing :(

The only thing that was marked down was a 17" Macbook Pro. $300 off retail price, if I remember correctly.

I will be going back in a month though.

I just got back from my local CompUSA. Sign says "All sales final", there are no discounts at this time.

Salesman said that the discounts will start in about a week and would be in the 5-10% range, at the end before the store closes they might be 15% at most but by then most of the good stuff will be gone.

I'm just hoping that the display items will have deeper cuts, that's where I like to bargain. I've got my eye on the 30 inch ACD display model (rubs hands in greedy anticipation).

Stopped by one of my local stores. All 4 in my area are scheduled to close by the way. The only difference I saw was that the Sunday ads were pulled off the walls and all the corresponding sales were pulled off the shelves. No differences otherwise. I hope I do see some discounts before they close. I've had my eye on a server UPS they have for my Xserve.

What kind of a UPS? Belkin has great deals everyday using their 40% discount code that always seems to work. Can't remember what it is right now, but you can find it easily on Google.

yeah i went buy one tonight also, and nothing on sale yet. (well there were some manager's specials)hopefully the liquidation will start soon....i would love a 23" display for $700!!

Based on liquidation sales I've personally seen at other CUSA locations in the recent past, you can only expect a 5-10% discount on hardware (desktops, notebooks, displays, etc), and a 10-20% discount on software and accessories for the first couple of weeks or so. By the time the discounts get steeper, all of the good stuff is long gone.
