I spoke with a manager. He said the liquidation company had taken over, and at most locations there weren't going to be much more discounts. He said they would not go past 5-10% for most Apple stuff (save iPod accessories), they'll just wait for them to sell off because they have already set in stone their price discount "floors" and would not lose money. They said that they would not be changing inventory back to other CUSA stores, though, because the liquidator had purchased everything.
So what a friggin' waste of time. They have no intentions of deeply discounting anything, or even pricematching online prices. They want to maximize profit.
A couple week ago I went out to get my parents a Mac mini and the only one they had was the store display w/o a power cord and remote and the best they could do was the 5% off. I had them check the two other stores in the Detroit Metro area and they too had no more Mac mini's. I marched over to Circuit City and with the luck of the Irish, Apple was having a sale. I got it for $100 off.
In reference to the quote above, the Apple Rep that was in Comp USA, told me the same thing about the liquidators. Apple Rep "our hands are tied and what we could do under the store umbrella, we dot have that flexibility these liquidators are trying to get the maxim dollar possible right now and they can't discount one red cent. You'd be better off going to Best Buy, I was just over there they have plenty in stock.
By the way there is a regular Apple Rep in Circuit City, kinda like Compusa was. That is some consulation if you live in they Troy, Michigan/ Metro Detroit area.
