A discount of 5% won't even pay for the sales tax. It's still cheaper to buy from Amazon. A 10% discount would make it close to a wash, but you'd still have to select from the available stock.

Just bought a 20 inch ACD. I've had my eye on one for months. The 10% discount at CompUSA wasn't great but it's better than nothing. At least that paid the tax.

So long CompUSA and thanks for the memories.

Edit: Well, technically they're not completely gone in CA, but the closest store to me is a couple of hours away, I'll never shop there.

The merging with Good Guys ruined both stores. The CompUSA near me used to be a nice big warehouse sized store with plenty of room between aisles and enough product on the shelves to keep me coming back. The Good Guys employed some nice people that were enthusiasts themselves. They had multiple demo rooms set up and would do their best to help you find what you needed.

After the merger, they closed the warehouse and moved everything into the Good Guys store. They tried to cram 2-3 aisles into places where there were previously none. Their selection of computer parts dropped to 2-3 different models, and only the low-mid range models at full MSRP prices.

The last time I went in, I was there for 3 minutes before leaving. They didn't have anything even close to what I was looking for, everything was terribly cramped, and the entire store was dark because they never added more lighting and the existing lighting was intended for their home demo atmosphere.

Good riddance.

I liked CompUSA but I do admit their prices were not that great.

I also noticed that they didn't rotate their product very well. I was looking at their WACOM Tablets. The software bundled with it was "Photoshop Elements 3.0". Wasn't that out a couple of years ago?

hey guys, anyone know when the % off will go up? i heard that they want to close the stores in May i think.

theres a gateway 24inch monitor there that i want, and its the last one. do you think they should give me more than 10% off since its the last one on display?

You can always ask, but be armed with the cost from an online retailer first. I'd expect to get at least 10% off the lowest price I can get elsewhere for a retail display item.

I visited our local CompUSA store about a week ago. The Macs were about 5% off (big whoop) and the software 10% off. Another big whoop. I'm still far better off buying from Amazon. I looked at some other items and decided that unless and until they lower prices significantly further, that it makes no sense to buy at CompUSA's closeout. They are really banking on people getting caught up in bargain mania, even if they're not getting any real bargains.

they had 30% off of some PDA accessories. nothing i needed but a good deal anyway. aside of that their clearance prices are above or the same as amazon or other reputable internet shops.

when i was there many people had disappointed faces and left the shop empty handed.

Picked up a universal dock for the ipod there. Was 30% off, nothing great, but good enough. Apples weren't even a % off ihere, just 50 off macbook and a little bit off of the imacs. Monitors were 10% iirc.

Might head down there today to see if the prices have changed.

I spoke with a manager. He said the liquidation company had taken over, and at most locations there weren't going to be much more discounts. He said they would not go past 5-10% for most Apple stuff (save iPod accessories), they'll just wait for them to sell off because they have already set in stone their price discount "floors" and would not lose money. They said that they would not be changing inventory back to other CUSA stores, though, because the liquidator had purchased everything.

So what a friggin' waste of time. They have no intentions of deeply discounting anything, or even pricematching online prices. They want to maximize profit. I guess it'll be slow, taking advantage of idiots... but that was their motto.

well i asked and they said no. the guy said something about they ship some stuff that doesn't sell to New York to sell there, or something. not sure if i believe it or not. especially a display item? i don't think so.

i might try your method and get a price online first.

It's not like people weren't warned... :p

The short and simple answer?
No good deals.

The longer answer? Read at your leisure.

Thanks for noticing.

The thread I linked to has people posting from other CompUSA stores that had been liquidated earlier-- that thread already had stated the whole no returns available and no real discounts. And that's ever. Shrug.

Those of you still waiitng for some magical close-out sale are going to be sorely disappointed.

the compusa liquidation is a joke. i dont know how they get away with calling anything in there a sale.

Wow.. 5% off macs.. Using a discover card u get 5% off at apple.com

or how about a student discount

and some people can also get discounts through their employers, but i digress..

My friend is shopping for the Panasonic 42PX60U plasma 42" tv. Compusa has it marked down at 15% off, WoW!.. not.. how about they mark up the price to MSRP.. bringin the price to $1529. What a deal, except for the fact that it's $1299 and both Circuit City and Best Buy. So, buy it from a store that's still around or one that's closing? Does it end there? No. Compusa.com has it for $1299.

There is nothing worth buyin at that crapola of a store. with its so called "sale"

walked in to my local compusa a few days ago, the "discounts" were a bit pathetic, 10-15% off on most things but the original prices were often higher than fry's... the 5% discount on mac products was also a joke, better deals can be had on amazon, newegg, or even apple store with edu discount.

you'd have thought they would try to get rid of everything fast... ...

The big discounts will come at the end, though the choice of what's left will at that point be limited. I think I read the stores are closing down 60-90 days after the announcement was made (maybe a month ago?).

CompUSA here in SE Houston is closing its doors. I was lured by the "everything in the store is 15-40%" signs they'd posted all over telephone poles.

First, that "everything in the store" did not pertain to computers which were only marked down 5%.

Second, I was in the market for Hard Drives, and CompUSA's prices were STILL higher than Fry's and NewEgg.

Hrm...why are they closing?

A whole bunch of them are closing. Did you go to the one in Webster? I've been there and to the one in Sugarland.. both quite sub-par. Bleh!

I went last week and the macbooks were 5% off. What a waste of time. You'd be crazy to buy from there unless you have a whole bunch of gift cards or something. Anyway, I talked to an employee he said that the store was closing in 6 weeks and discounts should be lower, but even at 15% off the original price it wouldnt be worth it. The only thing that would be worth it would be 30% off.

meh, not all the deals on Macs at CompUSA are great...

i saw a white macbook that was on display selling for over 1k...and its trackpad was all dirty, etc. Thats just dumb. the closing CUSA near my house only has stuff for 15% off on most items...thats not that much.

yeah, i don't see how they expect to sell the display stuff with finger prints all over them.....i guess the employees will probably get them or something.....

anyway, if most of the stuff starts getting bigger discounts, please post.....thanks

A couple week ago I went out to get my parents a Mac mini and the only one they had was the store display w/o a power cord and remote and the best they could do was the 5% off. I had them check the two other stores in the Detroit Metro area and they too had no more Mac mini's. I marched over to Circuit City and with the luck of the Irish, Apple was having a sale. I got it for $100 off.

In reference to the quote above, the Apple Rep that was in Comp USA, told me the same thing about the liquidators. Apple Rep "our hands are tied and what we could do under the store umbrella, we dot have that flexibility these liquidators are trying to get the maxim dollar possible right now and they can't discount one red cent. You'd be better off going to Best Buy, I was just over there they have plenty in stock.

By the way there is a regular Apple Rep in Circuit City, kinda like Compusa was. That is some consulation if you live in they Troy, Michigan/ Metro Detroit area.
