She sure doesn't look like a joy filled person in that photo. Ok we get it, your Dad was a jerk. We think so too. But he changed the world and you don't ever have to worry about paying another bill ever in your life. Get over it.

She's also an ass for being ungrateful having Steve Jobs as a Dad even if he's not an ideal Dad. Steve financially supports through her life even her mom (who even have a guts to ask to buy them a house) Hey Lisa, take a look at MANY irresponsible parents around the world especially those parents who are financially incapable of raising a child (can't give enough food, proper shelter and education) but keeps making more and more babies. Just be grateful that you grow-up making your own path and dreams with no financial trouble.

weird you'd reply talking about products...when this book and post are clearly about the human side of the Jobs family. products come and go. replaced and retired. but familial bonds are forever.

Or . . . they are not. Family is not the most or even a primarily important thing for many, many people. I have not idea if it is the majority, but if you do not acknowledge this, you do not understand a lot of behaviors in our society.

I happen to be friends with someone who feels absolutely no kinship or heighten kindness nor anything like that with his family. And I am interpreting family widely. He is quite distant with most everyone, actually. However, I have never seen him be purposefully rude nor respectful. Never mean. And he does show true passion in the work that he does. Maybe the right word is anti-social . . . but utterly dependable and responsible.

Not the same as Jobs at all, but just wanted to say, basically, that people are complex. And it is definitely not about "family" for everyone, and that does not mean they are "bad" or "mean" people.

I have no desire to read this, I know Steve was a p**k, but bought his products, watched him speak, and allowed myself to be seduced by his Reality Distortion Field. Same can be said for Howard Hughes, Thomas Edison, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, etc.. - complete p**ks but geniuses that changed the world.

Was this already known? That's probably the most horrible Jobs' anecdote I've heard yet.

Yea imagine that,

"I only ****ed you (her mother) a few times and now you want me to buy you a house. When will you go away. How much more do you want miss one night stand"

I feel as though Jobs poured all his heart, soul, and emotion into his company and its products so much so that he barely had any of it left for anyone else. I think he may be somewhere on the autism spectrum though as they are known to be cold without realising they are being that way, they just can’t pick up on human emotions/empathy as well as us.

When her mother found a beautiful house and asked Mr. Jobs to buy it for her and Lisa, he agreed it was nice -- but bought it for himself and moved in with his wife, Laurene Powell Jobs.

...

When Ms. Brennan-Jobs goes on a school trip to Japan, he arrives unannounced and pulls her out of the program for a day. Father and daughter sit, talking about God and how he sees consciousness. "I was afraid of him and, at the same time, I felt a quaking, electric love," she writes.

In other words; do what Jobs likes, and he's happy.

These excerpts are tough reading - I feel for Lisa, and I am glad she and her father reconciled before he passed. I hope she is in a better place now. As for Steve, a shame he couldn’t see his greatest creation at the time was this child he helped bring into the world. He was a terrible parent, and there is no excuse for treating your child in the neglectful ways he did.

My dad wasn’t a powerful and wealthy CEO, he did not want the responsibility of being a parent and let us all know that many times. It is painful to be reminded of that in reading Lisa’s excerpts.

Jobs was an ass. He’s one of those troubled people that probably figured it out all too late.

He could change the world, but his most important relationship was a failure. Reminds me of Citizen Kane.

Narcissists never change. Never seek treatment. Never think they are the broken one. It's the people around them that are broken.

There has to be a middle ground somewhere. I can separate who he was as a father from his genius at Apple. Some people are attacking her and others saying they are done with Apple because of what happened many years ago. Not everyone is perfect.

What does p**k stand for? I assume you mean dick?

IMHO, we're all a product of our upbringing. From what I've read, Steve Jobs had a tough childhood and issues he didn't work through. It's only natural for him to transfer that to Lisa here. Lisa in her own right has her issues and is working through them, which is admirable. If editors and publishers spin things to make a buck, it wouldn't be the first time.

Job's attitude toward her is well known - and atrocious. Have zero interest in reading her story. What is gained?

Not the "hero" some people are saying him to be...

Pretty much every knowledgeable person recognizes Steve had significant faults. Jobs should be admired for his business achievements. Can't imagine anyone calling him a hero -- do you have a list of their names?
