The top reader comment on the NYTimes story nails it: "Perhaps Lisa forgives him in order to save her own sanity. The rest of us don't have to."

I love what he gave the world as a businessman. I despise how he treated the Brennans. It's just wrong. And genius or not, you're not above what's right and wrong.

The best music bands have at least one "bad guy."

Some of the most genius products were invented and/or developed by "bad guys."

Girls love a "bad boy" (until they get past that phase, most at least).

It's not that you can't have success without being a bad guy, but geez, how much fun are we having buying products created by a committee of nice guys over the last 5 years? Personality-less grey/white washed-out smoothed-over software and fashion-over-function hardware. No way what's in Apple stores now would have been developed in the 00's by today's group of nice-guy minimalist committee members at Apple. Food for thought.

Well she could have written a series of blogs about it and would have been more widely read. Publishing memoirs is becoming so 12th century. I mean i am not gonna buy her memoir. Besides she must be so rich she doesnt need the money, so why did she even publish them is beyond my understanding. Blog posts or web articles are the way to go in future, especially considering the kind of person her father was, he loved technology and tried to eliminate paper by giving us awesome tablets, possibly the best tablets in the market. Atleast save the trees and not publish paper memoirs.

Steve was no perfect human, who is in every way?
His relationship with Lisa is known, that it was far from perfect.
This is long time known fact. Nothing new.

In his generation there's a lot of absent and far from good fathers. More a rule then an exception I believe.
Didn't Steve did a lot to try to compensate Lisa a lot later in life?
Nothing hair-raising to me in that article.
I can't believe the comments in this thread about him though.
They must be real di**heads as fathers themselves. Guys who projects, huh?

She sure doesn't look like a joy filled person in that photo. Ok we get it, your Dad was a jerk. We think so too. But he changed the world and you don't ever have to worry about paying another bill ever in your life. Get over it.

She's also an ass for being ungrateful having Steve Jobs as a Dad even if he's not an ideal Dad. Steve financially supports through her life even her mom (who even have a guts to ask to buy them a house) Hey Lisa, take a look at MANY irresponsible parents around the world especially those parents who are financially incapable of raising a child (can't give enough food, proper shelter and education) but keeps making more and more babies. Just be grateful that you grow-up making your own path and dreams with no financial trouble.

I have no desire to read this, I know Steve was a p**k, but bought his products, watched him speak, and allowed myself to be seduced by his Reality Distortion Field. Same can be said for Howard Hughes, Thomas Edison, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, etc.. - complete p**ks but geniuses that changed the world.

You guys are connecting **** that isn't there.

Someone can be rich and financially support you and still be an *******. Making a product doesn't justify why he was a prick to his children and family.

and you don't ever have to worry about paying another bill ever in your life.

Sad for her treatment, for sure. I'd be happy for her if that tumultuous situation in life growing up didn't warrant needing a book sale to find peace. Note the author retains the hyphenated last name, so that seems to be working out well at least...

Lisa's Mom was still gold-digging Steve. (asking to buy them a house)
If you read Steve's biography, it talks about how Lisa and her mom kept moving from place to place, month after month because Steve wasn't supporting them and Lisa's mom couldn't always afford to pay the rent. If you're going to have sex with someone and produce offspring, you better know how to support family, accident or not.

And you are not? So you have asked Laurene Powell and all his kids, and they told you that he was a prick? Interesting

Money isn't everything dude. You really think she cares how much he did at Apple? Doesn't change the fact that he was a dick to his own daughter.

I haven't linked anything. If you're going to try to debate, please do so with an actual argument.
It's impossible to debate with someone who comes with empty accusations. This article is about Lisa Brennan-Jobs, don't drag in Steve's whole family. If you try to do that, it's not about them or Steve, it's all about you, and your problems.
That why I asked if you talked with them, very sure you haven't, and know absolutely nothing about their relations.

I am getting tired of this woman already, and I have not read any of the relevant books.

I don't approve of Job's parenting (as described) at all, but that is besides the point - we know he was a jerk. And, that he made so many stupid decisions that literally killed him too soon, especially considering how much health care he had access to, as a rich man. Almost like a death-wish, and pancreatic cancer is a death sentence even in this decade.

She couldn't have written such a book when he was alive, I understand that dilemma.

The picture she is painting of herself now is that of a very sore winner, bitter even after this many years. Her claim of having forgiven him to heal herself sounds false, as she seems to be still whining. I doubt he can defend or explain his behavior if he was alive, but now that that chapter is closed, what is her end-game here!
