I'm also waiting for one. When the Montevina mobile Intel chipset is made available, that's when I'll get one. I'd go for a faster processor, get 4GB of third party ram and flip the original 2GB on eBay.

This better happen before the end of February, or my little girl is getting a Dell /Sony. I was leaning toward a MB (in lieu of the latter(s)), but the inconsistant story on MB's ability to play WoW is making me lean toward toward the dark side.

There was an article from San Jose about a week ago where Intel denied the rumors the the Penryn delay. I posted a link to the article somewhere in this thread.
Ok I post my desire here to be able to buy a new version of the MBP, then what?

ASSURED! of course many on this board have had the pleasure of owning apple notebooks before (maybe even fairly recent models), while ive been getting by on my old windows desktop for quite a few years now, so i may be a bit biased! if your current machine isnt too outdated, hang in there with Brianstorm91 and his legion of Patience!

Yeah last night i made a spreadsheet comparing current Dell/Mac/Sager/Sony notebooks (well the sony is the feb model already on their website with penryn chips).
Hoping for the MBP but i dont think i'll pay such a premium for older technology, and never owning an apple (well since an apple IIe) ive been on the fence of converting since teh announcement of boot camp (need windows for work)
...so i'll wait maybe until feb 9th or so...my birthday...then ill get the best deal, be it a mac or pc.

@#$%! Its like everyday the new MBP comes to my doorstep, kicks me in the balls, and says, "Any day now buddy!".
On that note, an illuminated trackpad would be the sweetest thing ever.

The longer that I'm waiting, the more I'm thinking that I'll keep my PowerBook and buy a Mac Pro. My desk needs are for power and my couch/coffeeshop needs are much, much less so. I can pick up a MP for less than the MBP that I'd want (I have a 20" monitor already) and then I don't have to play the game of "will upgrading my hard drive myself void my warranty". And I can have any size drive I want internally.
Unless there is a total WOW MBP in the next couple of weeks, I'm thinkin' MP.
I chatted with the wifey on this and she is cool with it. If I need more grunt when mobile, then I'll sell the PB and buy a refurb base model MacBook. No superdrive? No problem, I'll have one at my desk.
AND... talk about a machine that will still be going strong in 4-5 years, yeah the MP will keep me going.

Here's hoping, one things for sure though, third party RAM is the only way to go.
I love my iBook G4 but it's time to upgrade, BIGTIME! I'm sick of playing the upgrade waiting game...
If I'm not mistaken, all of these products use the mobile range of Intel's processors and therefore it would make sense for apple to switch to penryn all the way with all of its products, except for maybe mac mini and macbook, which would come later.
Anyways, I don't know what apple is waiting for here, the chips are available (especially to them when they are such good buddies with Intel), the multitouch technology they already have and there is no new graphics core coming soon (9600m, based on g94 core, will come god knows when and there is no indication that mobile radeon 3600 would be faster than 8600m and its coming in few months anyway)
I'm getting really frustrated here, especially with so many macbook pros on sale after christmas, or maybe they are on sale expecting new ones to come in

Agreed! My new MBP arrives on Monday, and the only thing that will annoy me/make me consider selling it would be if the new one was black alu!
