Has there been any improvements/changes to the Exchange support?

Namely, can you invite attendees to meetings originated on the iPhone? (I guess this is lacking in mobileMe as well)

ok.... I have read articles on Macrumors suggesting "Hidden" or "Secret" features...
Does anyone have any idea what those "Hidden/Secret" features are?

Technosmurf posted on AppleInsider:
- While a song is playing, there's a new "play arrow" icon near the top right hand corner of the screen, next to the battery status. This is helpful, since it was confusing before to know if a song was in a "play" state or a "paused" state while browsing for other songs or creating on-the-go playlists (recently, I haven't been using headphones on my iPod touch as I often use it just for browsing web pages).
Has this been missing on the iPod Touch? It seems to me that my iPhone has had this for some time now.

Can now selectively mute certain sound effects (new mail, key taps)

You could always do this.

Who is saying this is new? Do they even own an iPhone?

Does it fix the update application bug? Please tell me it does, it's driving me insane right now on my iPhone

New Feature!

In the security options, you now have the choice of whether you want to wipe your iPod's data after ten incorrect password entries. May be mistaken, but seems new to me!

No, they don't own an iPhone. The 2.1 update is only available for iPod touch right now and if I'm not mistaken, on the previous iPod touch software, you could only turn Sound Effects on or off and not choose individually. Why would someone who owns an iPhone also have an iPod touch?

Hi, I've posted elsewhere but people might not see it as quickly as here.

My biggest wish for the new UI is to change brightness directly in video mode when playing videos (like you can with iPod 5th gen. and later).

Is that now possible?

That would be for me the only reason to upgrade.

Thanks in advance for checking this out for me.

Doesn't look like you can. I just DLd the upgrade, and don't see it. It is possible that you can find a way to make this happen, however, it is not obvious in the video itself, nor is there a toggle switch in either the Brightness or Video settings.

Well... I do...

So don't jump into conclusions about what people own or don't...

Dude. You're in the iPod touch forum wondering asking if people here own iPhones. Sorry, but you're wrong. Previous to 2.1, the iPod touch could not turn on/off sound effects for individual actions. So don't jump to conclusion thinking that people here have iPhones. Most iPod touch users (ie: The only consumers that can download and install 2.1) don't have an iPhone. Case closed.

Also, I forgot to bring my "Jump-to-Conclusions mat" today.

I also have both an ipod touch and iphone 3g.

I bought the ipod to tide me over until the new iphone was out ... i use both

Another new 'feature': practically every entry in my Calendar is presented twice when it's in List Mode

Office Space FTW. Also, I agree with you, TheSpaz. The first commenter was obviously looking at this from an iPhone perspective and spoke too soon without realizing the differences between iPhones and iPod touches.

-now you can tap an app icon while it's installing to pause the installation process.

-in 2.0 whenever you double tapped on a album artwork and viewed all the songs on the album, you couldn't double tap to get back to the artwork, you had to hit the little icon in the top right corner. well now in 2.1 it's like it was in 1.1.x where you can now double tap to get back to the album art. idk why they ever took this away but it's back now.

What's with the Calendar App

Anyone using the calendar app and able to have multiple calendars (like Google)? Maybe you need to have an Exchange account setup or something. Not sure if this feature is new or not but I know my 1G Touch running 2.1 doesn't look like this:

http://www.apple.com/ca/ipodtouch/features/calendar.html

... and I also know that the calendar app is currently useless (to me) for anything other than viewing the date since I can't sync my Yahoo calendar to it. I'd even consider moving to Google if I could sync the calendar (no Mac yet so can't do Google > iCal > iPod which I think works). I already have an Exchange calendar at work and personal Yahoo one... don't need a third data entry point.

C'mon Apple... you can do better... mail... contacts... why not calendar sync? Gotta leave em wanting more I guess...

- Music listings have gone to two lines

- Can now selectively mute certain sound effects (new mail, key taps)

- UK can now finally have a 12hr clock

- Emails now seem to have an expanding field to select BCC/CC/From info

- Apps Install like they do in the advert rather than taking several minutes

- Everything much more responsive, no more keyboard lag.

- Sync seems much faster

Still no support for direct Google Calendar sync or Google Bookmark sync which is a shame

Try this.. works great for me :) PUSH GOOGLE CONTACTS AND CALANDER

I noticed this morning that the music player now seems to remember if you have tapped the album art once to display the scrubber/lyrics. IE if you finish playing an album, and the ipod goes back to the selection screen, and you choose a new album/song, when the song starts playing the scrubber will already be there. This differs from previous versions where it defualted to not showing the scrubber.

This is great as it saves an extra tap, as I always display the scrubber.

I do not like how the scrubber control now takes up more room, though, obscuring the album art further. I wish there was a way to turn off genius and use the previous scrubber graphic....

As for screenshots, I took a few, you can see them on flickr:

my fab new "feature"

I have read this thread, played kingdom game and responded here using my touch - all whilst Reading laying on my side. The screen has not once aggresively moved over to landscape mode making many things possible for me now.

you can have the uk time in 24hr or 12hr where as before you were stuck with 24hr

T
- Tapping the screen while a song is playing now shows information from the Comments section in MP3 tags (is this new?). Similar to showing lyrics if you tap on the screen during playback.

Is there any way to see the information you get when you click the little (i)nformation icon on iTunes?

For example, the Fresh Air podcast puts the full description of the episode in there, but I don't see any way to access it from the Touch. This would be very helpful.

Thanks,

-john

Batter Battery Life?

Has anyone noticed better battery life as promised? I know that this feature was made in reference specifically to the iPhone, however, I'm hoping the benefits were also found on the iPod Touch? And if so, perhaps someone can confirm or refute this claim? Thank you! :)
