That's far fewer than I would have expected.

I thought there'd at least be one for every major area per state. I live within reasonable driving distance to 4 Apple Stores and I was sure the one in the Somerset mall (Northwestern suburbs of Detroit) would have them. Not everyone who shops there has a lot of $$$ but it's where those who do go.

I did want to look at one in person (if they ever have them out in a case). I wouldn't want to reserve a one hour appt to see them with no intention of buying. Then again, I wonder if they pre-qualify people (like before a realtor will take you to multimillion dollar house)_?

People buy Rolex,Hubolt and other luxury gold watches all the time with no where near the functionality off the Edition no one bats an eye.

If someone can afford one of them, and is willing to pay for it, they can probably afford many- so it won't make a difference to them.

I wouldn't pay $10,000 - $17,000 for any version of this watch or any smart watch. Nor would I spend that for any watch - even a used Rolex. I'm not the target market for those watches and I can afford it. To each their own.

I am not surprised by the limited locations Edition is available at. If you can drop 17k for an Apple Watch edition you can afford a plane ticket, fly to the store and back to get one.

Yes with that kind of income, I would purchase a fully loaded Mac Pro and 2 Thunderbolt monitors so that I can check my email and do Facebook when I get home while my watch is charging too.

Judging from the stores chosen, most of the richest people in the country are not far away. Others can order online or send a runner anyway.

I like how Christiana Mall in DE gets it....tax free baby!!

Also one of their most popular stores and nearby to Greenville, Chads Ford, etc. Plenty of DuPont heirs and corporate attorneys.

Glad to see the Tyson's Corner, VA on the list. For those that might not remember, it is the very first Apple Store.

And home to plenty of wealthy customers.

That location sells more iPhones every year than any other Apple store in the country, for exactly that reason. It's located in a state with no sales tax at all, which is surrounded (and very closely mind you, Delaware is the second smallest state by land mass) by three states with fairly high sales tax. There are probably over ten million people within an hour drive of this location, and most of them have sales tax of 6% or more.

When I was living in Philadelphia (8% sales tax) I would drive to Christiana to get anything expensive. When I bought my rMBP, I saved $120 in sales tax. Sure it cost about $20 in gas to get there and back, but that's still a $100 savings.

For an Apple Watch Edition, even at the base of $10k, you're saving a whopping $800 if you live in Philadelphia. I can't imagine the Walnut Street store selling very many when you can save nearly a thousand dollars or more by driving 45 minutes down I-95.

I now live in Delaware, about 20 minutes from that store. The lines for iPhones when the 6 came out were wrapped up and down the mall for weeks after release.

Not exactly. If you were to make a top ten list of richest counties in the U.S. I lived in one... in Colorado (Douglas county #9). There are three Apple stores here (in the tech center) and none of them is carrying the Edition. I'd call it an oversight, but I don't know what the numbers look like from Apple's perspective. It does surprise the hell out of me though, considering the states listed with the top 15 wealthiest counties, Colorado is the only one in the list not represented in Apples list.

They have a high average wealth but how do they fair when it comes to ridiculous, stinking rich?

Of course highland village would be the only place to carry it. Good luck with parking.

True, but they usually end up being timeless pieces that don't get replaced and/or new versions released. I can't see the reason for spending so much on something that will be replaced in the near future with a new version.

While I don't doubt this possibility, I'm interested in seeing how Apple is going to handle that part going forward. They may have a recycling program of some sort that will let you recoup a large portion of the cost.

that's 14 stores in the US.
Figure what?/ 10 max per store?
140 in total

IDK, seems pretty low

Are you really cannot count? Or is it that you just regard everyone as too dumb and careless so that you can misguide us so easily?

I still can't comprehend dropping $10-17k on a first gen product that will be outdated in a year. (But I guess to some folks, that's not a lot of money)

To put this in perspective, I just dropped $40K on a first gen product! People drop big money on first gen products, all the time...

My first gen product happened to be a car. Completely new, unproven model. Like the watch, it will be outdated, next year, as the company adds features and fixes some of the issues and shortcomings in my "first gen" model.

The thing is, like my car, the Apple Watch will still be useful a year from now...several years from now, even. Heck...my iMac, from 2006, is way out of date. However, it is still very useful and able to do everything that it was able to in 2006....

It's still surprising how large the gap is between the Sport and Watch with the Edition. The base 18K Hold model is nearly 30x and 18x more expensive than its Sport and Watch respectively.

Lame Edition
Poser Edition
I have too much money Edition
Deuche Edition

I love Apple and their products. I think the Watch has potential. But I wont be purchasing one.

You're just the 10000th to say the EXACT same thing..
Door prize has been shipped.

The first insult makes no sense: "Poser"?
A rich person.. Posing as a richer person?
Also, didn't that word fall out of style 6-8 years ago?

Misspelling "Douche" is weird
Unless you meant Deutche, then and you're calling the gold one "German"...

The "too much money" (sic) edition has been retitled by those happy folks that own 2 Porsche and a Ferrari to the "what's it to you" edition...

If someone can afford one of them, and is willing to pay for it, they can probably afford many- so it won't make a difference to them.

You're right, it'll just be a neat toy in those circles...the same circles that fly places in private jets...definitely looks like Apple didn't go overboard on their expectations in sales for it. That's fewer places in the U.S. than I would have expected.

Spellcheck Edition?

For those concerned about the Edition being a poor, short-term investment: what if the guts are modular and when the next faster, more improved watch comes out it can be swapped into the Edition casing for a fee? Yes, future casings will probably be thinner and different but I would imagine the value of a first edition Edition could be considerable. That's all depending on the guts being swappable, though. Gruber has a very interesting discussion of this in one of his The Talk Show podcasts.

I think the stake through the heart of this idea (which I really like otherwise) is the fact that the display technology OLED is not a long life technology yet - unlike the displays on our iPhones/iPads/Apple Displays the display on the watch won't be in great shape in 2020 (Google is your friend there). The other stake through the heart of this idea is the fact that Apple isn't crowing about it as it would've increased sales significantly.

Yay, Philadelphia gets some love! Maybe I'll head on down and try one on. Now I just have to find my top hat... :D
