wow, I live in the Orlando FL area and I'm surprised the Apple store at the Mall of Millenia isn't on their elite list. That's a pretty ritzy mall where the very high rollers shop.

I'm really surprised the Los Gatos store is not on the list. I mean this is Woz's local store. The community definitely has the money to support sales. I can only think that it's not there due to the small store size, security issues or Woz doesn't want it in "his" store.

I still can't comprehend dropping $10-17k on a first gen product that will be outdated in a year. (But I guess to some folks, that's not a lot of money)

There won't be another watch next year. These are going to be 2 to 3 year releases, look at the market of smartwatches. Not a chance it's a yearly device.

nah.. the high rollers in orlando are basically just the athletes ;)

compare to NYC..
1 in 25 people in the city (approx 400,000) are millionaires.

No matter what I do I just can't see this whole $17,000 gold Apple Watch ending well for Apple's image. How many people will say "hey remember when Apple released that solid gold Watch that Jay Z loved but no one else on earth could afford?! Wasn't that AWESOME?"

I've said it before and I'll say it again - what would you be doing today with a $17,000 solid gold first generation iPad? Yup.

Unfortunately I truly believe this "Watch Edition" will be the punchline of a lot of jokes about Apple, for a long time. If anything it shows that these rich dudes in Cupertino are really, really losing touch.

we're just a bunch of plebs sitting around on the internet pretending we know what it's like to be filthy rich. the target buyer of this watch doesn't post here. probably only 10 members of Macrumors will buy the thing. and maybe one of them will post about it.

the target buyers are the 1%.. an 'elite' group, sure.. but still, there are 70million of them on earth.

There's buyers who will buy it. Remember this: http://fortune.com/2013/11/24/sold-red-mac-pro-for-977000/

"Expensive" is only a point of view. A guy who can spend $977K for a Mac Pro mostly to show he could might buy a pile of $17K :apple:Watches to give out to friends & family for fun.

I'm with you here in terms of questioning it's value. But if you have the money to buy a $977K Mac Pro because it's red (and for charity), $17K for a watch looks very, VERY different... even "chump change".

Pity the Massachusetts customers buying Apple Watch Edition. $625 sales tax on the $10,000 watch, and this time they can't avoid it by driving up to Salem or Nashua, New Hampshire. (Actually, I don't have much pity for Edition customers. But I have less pity for the big-spending MA government.)

We have whole jewelry stores in NH that exist mainly so the sister stores in Boston can offer their customers the convenience of picking up their purchase in New Hampshire. ;)

$625 sounds like a bargain. Sales tax on a $10,000 purchase here would be $950.

My biggest issue with the Apple Watch right now is the resell value and how easy it will be to resell one. With services like Mazuma Mobile and Envirofone (here in the UK), you can very easily sell your old iPhone for almost 50% of the original price and put those funds towards your new one, which is mostly what I've been doing. But I don't feel like these services are gonna want to buy Apple Watches. I mean, I know they now take iPads but for Apple Watch to work, people are gonna need to be able to sell their old ones when a new one comes out...are people really gonna want to buy old gen Apple Watches on eBay?

More specifically with the Edition, are they gonna go up in value as they age just like luxury watches and will they still be worth their weight in gold when a new model comes out? But I guess if you've got £10k to spare on a Watch, you're not gonna be too bothered about reselling it later. Although I'm pretty sure that's the whole point some people are luxury watch enthusiasts, the appreciation of value and how that raises with age.

More stores than I thought. I'd have thought it would be just Michigan Avenue in Chicago, for instance. So 3 stores in NYC, 2 in Chicago, 2 in the DC area (including Tysons), 2 in LA.

Christiana Mall wins it, though. No sales tax! :D

If your politicians hear you say 6.25% is a bargain, they'll want to raise your 9.5% to 15.75%.

"Tax" and "bargain" shouldn't be used in the same sentence (except a sentence like this one).

They probably will one day, it keeps inching up year by year. When I was a kid, it was around 5%, now we're almost to 10. At least we still have tax free Oregon a couple of hours away.

I'm surprised by the choice of Melbourne store. I would've expected Chadstone, or at least a city location, to be first pick.
I was wondering about the selection of Melbourne store. Is Cheltenham an area of Melbourne with many very wealthy people? I half expected the Bondi store in Sydney to have it was there is a lot of money in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, but it seems that no city gets two locations for the Edition.

True, if I was willing to spend $17K on a watch. Chances are, I'm either really dumb or $17K is nothing to me.

Went this morning to the Apple Store here in Shanghai.

Was already set on buying the stainless steel one in black. They didn't have the black one, but I liked the look and tried the regular one. Affirmed what I wanted. Also tried the black aluminium one to get a feel for the black sports band. So I decided on the black steel with an extra sports strap.

Then for kicks, I figured I'd check the out the "Edition" ones. Well they didn't have them in the drawer and apparently they're kept in a safe. Anyways I ended up trying the gold one with the midnight blue strap and just for comparison the rose gold one with the white sports strap.

To be honest I though the rose gold one was going to be very feminine and the gold one gaudy. Not at all. The rose gold one looked very nice. The gold one with the blue band looked absolutely amazing. Be honest I almost convinced myself to get the gold one with the midnight blue band.

Overall the experience was excellent and the store staff were very professional. It was a nice experience. As for ordering they said for select customers, they can hold a watch or two, but otherwise it's online order only.

Off topic: Also checked out the new MacBook. First impressions were good except hte keyboard which felt weak. Spent about ten minutes typing with it and after getting used to it, it's actually quite solid and feels good.
