If it’s stable I’m tempted as my iMac is still on Sierra

missing out on the iMessage upgrades for starters ...

Honest question....is there anything that is going to stop working for those of you that cannot upgrade to Big Sur? I find it puzzling that people using 8+ year old devices are peeved that they have to use a 1+ year old OS. I assume I'm missing something, so I'm actually curious.
I still see people running Windows 7 or even XP sometimes for their day jobs, which is ridiculous, but for them, what's not broke...

Do you not realise there's little wrong with computers from 2012? Performance has not advanced as much as you think. My 2012 Mac Mini and 2013 iMac both with quad core i7s are still extremely fast and capable machines today.

My 2012 iMac doesn’t make the cut, c’mon Apple update the iMacs soon!

My 13” MacBook Pro 2019 does make the cut tho, so at least one of my Macs will be able to have the new MacOS :)

but according to apple website in learn more section iMac 2013 and even 2012 in compatible. please recorrect you list, here is a link

Are you saying the iMac 2013 will be compatible with Big Sur? Where are you seeing that exactly?

The question I’m now coming across is whether to get a new Mac at all. My iPad Pro is my main computer.

Lightroom, Photoshop and most other apps I use are on iPadOS. My only outstanding Mac app, Final Cut Pro, is now running on ARM. It’s just a matter of time before it comes to iPad.

Do I even need a Mac? 🤔

No news of iPadOS being able to run more apps than the available memory.

So if that affects your workflow, you might still need a Mac.

Cant imagine one mac mini get me through entire Mac Intel architecture era

My 1st Mac Mini - Power PC G4
My 2nd Mac mini - Late 2012 Intel i7 quadcore
My 3rd Mac mini - TBD...

Looks like it might be time for an upgrade! I've had this Early 2013 rMBP for 7 years and still works flawlessly! I know the speed on the new machines is going to substantially faster but having the same size SSD for a the same money 7 years on is a bit of a let down.

I will be upgrading to Mojave next year.
Maybe people already said this above, but Mojave is stable and great. I have a 2017 MBP, which isn’t terribly new, and I LOVE the combination.

I can’t think of any good reason to “upgrade” to Catalina, let alone anything that comes after. I hear of almost nothing but misery and requisite software upgrades.

Shouldn’t I just keep sitting here, very happy with Mojave? I’m not a power user (or I’d have a newer computer; this one should get me through 2023 or so...).

i have a Quad Core FusionDrive 2012 Mac mini and it runs really well on Catalina*. Maybe it’s the 128GB SSD in front of the 1TB HDD? Or the 16GB ram? * had issues until last update with big pic files but now seems fine.

I have quadcore 2012 macmini with 512GBssd and 1Thd, 16GB, it run pretty well, actually the best suitable macos which was capable to use the most of it, was el capitan.

What’s the best macOS for the 2012 Mac mini to live forever on ?
Propably El Capitan, as for latest possible .. my experience ..

I am quite happy that my 2012 non-retina MBP 15 lasted this long, kept pace with me no matter what I threw at it, and is doing fine with Catalina. I was already thinking of getting a new one next year, but I think I can wait till 2022 when the Arm MBPs and MacOS 11 are into their second year.
