Flash support

I heard from some friends at church that the Flash support is headed for the iphone and we assumed would also find it's way to the ipod Touch. But, as we've seen with the inability to add calendar events, some features are being kept away on purpose to make users want an iphone.

Yeah. TV Shows that you rip yourself will, by default, be listed like Movies are - one at a time, in a big list. To make them display correctly, do the following:

1. Highlight the show you want, right-click (or whatever the Mac equivalent) and choose "Get Info".

2. Under the "Info" tab, change the "Name" field to whatever the episode title is; say, Bret Gives Up the Dream, or whatever.

3. Under the "Video" tab, fill in the information for "Show" (say, Flight of the Conchords), the "Season Number", the "Episode ID" (the episode title, Bret Gives Up the Dream) and the "Episode Number".

4. In the "Video Kind" drop-down box, select "TV Show".

5. Click OK.

Voila! Your shows should now be displayed correctly.

Thanks.

Wow.

That's a giant pain in the ass.

Why o why can't Handbrake or something do it - if not automatically - then thru their interface, rather than requiring a manual get-info on each file?

Because it *is* OSX :)

It shows up on the iPhone whenever you press the volume buttons on the side.. on the Touch, there is no such buttons and the only way to adjust the volume is via the slider underneath the play controls.. so why does the icon show up randomly?

Ive had the random pop up only once and was when i was using safari. Im on my touch now and im trying to listen to music at the same time but i dont think ive even got through one whole track yet! Keeps crashing aswel! So flipping annoying!

Apart from that theres nothing else wrong-but i dont think my auto brightness works. And earlier it kept telling me i had my mates wireless network password wrong when it wasnt.

I find this funny. A quote from Engadget, listing another major problem with the iPod touch, in Japan.

Are you a Japanese Windows user? Did you just buy an iPod touch? If you answered yes to both of those questions, you may find yourself in a boiling rage in a matter of moments. Apparently, you are unable to unlock your new WiFi-device / media player if you're using Japanese Windows -- the player just remains in the holding pattern of a "connect to PC" prompt when you hook it up to your computer. According to reports, Apple Japan has yet to issue a statement or updates to solve the problem, which is causing a number of Japanese buyers to take matters into their own hands. Word on the street is that lines have been forming outside of Apple stores, where new buyers are taking their useless touches to be brought magically to life by the in-store Macs. First the screen problems and now this? Come on Apple -- get it together.

Update: The crack team at Engadget Japan has learned from Apple that an update coming later this week will fix the problem, though they have yet to make an official announcement. Also, it sounds like other foreign Windows users may be experiencing similar problems. If you're having trouble -- let us know.

Unlucky

Right so safari was crashing and taking me back to the main menu every 2 seconds earlier. At the same time i was trying to listen to music and it wouldnt even play a whole track all the way through without stopping! Was getting so frustrated.

So i decided to turn it off. Not to sleep but properly off. Then i turned it back on and ran safari and some music. Safari is now running at a blinding speed and hasnt crashed in hakf an hour. The whole time ive also been listening to plenty of tunes.

Restarting your ipod is the way to fix tgese errors........just wondering when they're gunna start again!

P.s. Thats the most ive ever typed using my touch and is was pretty fast!

another "real" bug

Not just a complaint but here is a real bug. I often listen to music while falling asleep. So I used Clock-> Timer and set a 1 hour timer and select the feature to put the ipod to sleep.

So, two nights ago, I woke up on the morning with a dead iPt.

If you navigate away from the Clock while the timer is counting down, and they you go back to check it, the alarm action gets default adjusted to a audio alert of some sort. The set preference for sleep ipod has been forgotten.

So if you want to fall asleep and listen to music you can't do anything after setting the timer.

APPLE, PLEASE FIX!

-Battery level: my Touch seems to lose a lot of battery power just by turning on/off - then regain a little after it's on. Also hope this is SOFTWARE - maybe there's a less power-intensive boot procedure they could patch, or it's just the power monitoring software that's bad?

Same thing happens on my first gen iPod Nano all the time.

Safari crashes should defiantly be fixed, but whats good is that you just tap Safari and it comes back quickly so not too much of a issue, is annoying though and I do expect better from Apple, this is not the MicroPod!

The bug that pisses me off the most is in safari that makes it so you can't click on links sometimes unless you open a new window. I've also had a lot of trouble syncing my iPod with itunes - but I think that might be a bad cord cause its a lot better with my old nano's cable.

I would like be able to open links on new tabs in safari and some form of copyand paste would be nice too.

A huge bug for photos is the fact that iTunes "optimizes" your images, which really means it resizes them to some absurdly small dimensions (640x480) before it copies it to the iPod Touch. As a result, the photos in the Touch can not stand up to any sort of zoom, because even with the slightest zoom, you can see ugly pixelation..

has any one experienced iTunes quitting while it is on lock doing nothing but playing music?

That happened to me today, and I was kind of worried..

Edit- I just checked the alarm, well it plays the preview sound out of the mini speaker..however it does not play the actual alarm. I am guessing because that speaker is pretty quiet.

I find it annoying that there is no contrast adjustment, that would probably go a long way to sorting the flat grey look and maybe give some definition to the blacks and shadows

I have used my iPt alarm, it plays it out the speaker and the ear phones.

True for my iPod and for a couple of others (there is a thread dealing with this issue in this forum).

Sorry to keep hammering away at this, but I've been keeping up with the Touch forum and can't find anything in a search either, not to mention the conflicting reports within this very thread.

So are you saying that it is true that they don't have audible alarms, or it is true that they do?

And if they work in the preview but not in real use, is that just a bug? How does this compare to the iPhone?

I have been seeing a lot of problems lately too. If I completely turn off the device, most of them go away for a few days, then it starts coming back.

When I listen to music and put it on hold and go press the button to bring it back up, the music just stops, and then when I open up the music again, along the bottom where it has artist and genre and stuff, well mine is all stock now, so where it normally says "ALBUMS" it will say "VIDEOS". I can go in that and see my vids, then when I press a vid, the whole music program will crash and I need to open it again...

I am having that wierd volume thing show up too, only when it's on hold and I double click and adjust the volume. Safari crashes every now and then, I don't use it enough for it to be a pain in the butt...

But I still love it and can't wait til they update it for some more functionality.

Just turn the thing off when your not using it. I do that all the time or my battery would die pretty quickly.

Just tested - it sure as hell DOES go off, with some volume, thru the built-in speaker. Probably would be enough to wake you up in a quiet environment.

Now, whether it works while music is also playing, or the Touch is doing something else, is a different question (folks here say it can have trouble multitasking).

- Incorrect Album Art Display in Coverflow: The art for many of my albums is jumbled up; for instance, the cover for Belle and Sebastian's The Boy With The Arab Strap is displaying for Love & Rockets' Earth Sun Moon, and Cake's Prolonging the Magic is the album art for Zero 7's Simple Things. This pretty much sucks. It took me a long time to find the right album art, and it won't display correctly, even though everything is fine from within iTunes. Reloading artwork for those albums and re-syncing works occasionally, though other times it only causes other albums to become screwed up.

Bugfixes, Apple! We want bugfixes!

Thanks so much. If anyone is game, another question would be if iCal events that are synched with the iPod Touch utilize the same speaker for alerts.

I don't think it's a very publicized feature, but at least with my 3G iPod, when I set any event in iCal to have an alarm, there is always two beeps in my house, one from my laptop and one from my iPod, which is super useful when I'm on the go and only have the iPod.

Anyone up to seeing if this works?!
