I don't think having only size works for everybody though. I tend to go for the larger phone and my gf prefers a smaller sized one. When the X came out she upgraded to it and after trying it out for a little while I decided to stick with my 7 plus. When the Xs series came out I happily upgraded to the Xs Max as I wanted the bigger size.
Now with the new models releasing, my gf will be upgrading to the 11 Pro as the AC+ on her X is almost finished and she is really into photography it is a nice upgrade for her (and she doesn't always have her DSLR with her.) She still doesn't want the larger size model though. If I were to upgrade myself to a new phone then I would go for the Max model again (I'm perfectly happy with the Xs Max though, so i won't be upgrading myself.)
Thanks for replying, it's good to hear about actual usage scenarios where having more than one size iPhone model makes a practical impact. I was definitely a bit ranty there, I think mainly due to sitting through the iPhone keynote event and suffering from 'reveal fatigue' as they segued from one model to the next. I still don't think they need 3 different launch models (in addition to all the others still in the sales channels) but will happily agree that having 2 models is the right fit.
I'm glad you and your girlfriend found the right models that work for each of you. My wife and I are kind of in the same boat, I always prefer the most best and fastest models (regardless of size, although since the 6s l have always gone with the largest model) while my wife prefers fast but smaller (although this last year was a bit of an outlier as she decided to go with the XR, but she did complain that it was too big later, lol).
We are both skipping this year, mainly as it won't be until the next iPhone release that we are eligible for an upgrate. I'm torn as I have a feeling what's coming out next year is going to be damn exciting, but at the same time I'm perfectly happy with my XS Max and don't see any compelling reason as of yet to upgrade. (Man, did I get off on a tangent or what?

Sure. I uploaded the MP4 here.

You are awesome, thanks for sharing the MP4. I love that animation and will be using it on my iPhone shortly. I'm really impressed with the art direction of Apple as of late, I hope they do more thing like the multi-color apple animation they cooked up (no pun intended) for this event.
I'd like to give back and share something as well for any who have liked the in-store Macbook screensavers that Apple has done for their stores. While I did not capture these, some awesome dude actually went into Apple stores and managed to smuggle out (I think via Airplay) the animations and then uploaded for all to use.
