I think airplay is coming to some newer 2018/2019 smart TVs.

Apple has made that very confusing on purpose.

My 2018 AV Receiver supports Airplay. That means it can play music over airplay, not do screen mirroring. There was even a firmware update to Airplay 2 recently this is still music only. The smartTVs you're talking about that will support airplay also mean music only.

FireTV is bad but Roku is great! Nothing comes close to the versatility of Roku and how well the interface works. I have had a apple TV and tried a fire and chrome cast. Roku is all I use now and have them on all my TVs.
