I bought an HP Envy 14 with 1600x900 screen, aluminum body, backlit keyboard, core i5, 160gb ssd, 1gb ATI 5650, switchable graphics for $1100 instead

I do worry that eventually a number of programs will become App Store exclusive. I suppose this depends upon how restrictive Apple is--if Mac OS App Store programs have to run in a crippled sandbox and therefore cannot access the entire file system, cannot install drivers or frameworks, cannot run in su mode, cannot use programming or scripting methods other than Apple's approved Objective C APIs, etc... then the App Store probably won't come to dominate the desktop.- There is no saying you can't go and download and install stuff the old fashioned way
SSD is no replacement for 2 more GB of RAM, there's an order of magnitude speed difference between the 2.RAM not such a big deal with flash storage, the SSD air can do things with 2GB RAM that others need 4GB for.
