I do worry that eventually a number of programs will become App Store exclusive. I suppose this depends upon how restrictive Apple is--if Mac OS App Store programs have to run in a crippled sandbox and therefore cannot access the entire file system, cannot install drivers or frameworks, cannot run in su mode, cannot use programming or scripting methods other than Apple's approved Objective C APIs, etc... then the App Store probably won't come to dominate the desktop.

I'm hopeful that since this is a computer and not a limited power/storage/battery device, that the restrictions we've all come to hate on the iOS App Store are not on the Mac one.

Trollpost? I've never seen anyone on the set of a photo shoot using a Macbook Air. I've never seen anyone run a live show with a MBA. I don't think people are showcasing 4k footage to clients with the MBA either. Are they not selling the Macbook Pro anymore?

My point exactly. MBA for a whole different subgroup of computer users.

Old Macbook Air: 1.86 Ghz or 2.13 Ghz Core2Duo processor
New Macbook Air: 1.4 Ghz or 1.86 Ghz Core2Duo processor

I like Apple, but technology does not work in that direction.

Who is it intended for the house wife looking up recipes?

The MBA has always been geared towards the professional, now all of sudden its not?

If the professional is not the target audience, then who is because, I don't know too many people who want to spend so much money for so little computer.

I think they're refering to media creation professionals. NOBODY does heavy photography or video work on a MBA. . . businessmen/lawyer professional - sure. Media professional? HA!

Who is it intended for the house wife looking up recipes?

Actually, sure, why not?

The MBA has always been geared towards the professional, now all of sudden its not?

Not anymore, at under $1000.

If the professional is not the target audience, then who is because, I don't know too many people who want to spend so much money for so little computer.

Aren't Macbooks and Macbook Pro 13"s Apple's best selling machines? They both are under $1000 and $1199 respectively. Most people who use these machines are NOT professionals.

Now I've got to look for a 12-core PC tower (or better) and Apple just lost $10,000.

Lion? Lipstick on a pig. The iPadification of Mac OS.

Mackbook Air? Jobs attempt to make notebooks into a toy as useless and thin as he is.

And of course, his fetish with Blu-ray comes complete with no optical drive whatsoever to deliver content to clients. Useless.

Now we pro content creator users can finally leave. All several million of us.

The era is finally over. The mac, as far as creating pro content, is dead. I'll be divesting my entire company's mac inventory as soon as my current rendering project is finished.

Buh-bye.

:apple:

P.S. What did I expect from Willie Wonka? Sanity. Way too much to ask for.

Yeah. What's up with that Ford Fiesta? Tiny, underpowered thing probably couldn't even carry half a dozen 2x4's.

I need something to haul lumber and plywood and bags of cement. That Fiesta just ain't gonna cut it! If this is the future of Ford, then I want out!

I'm selling my entire fleet of F-350's and we're going to switch everything to Kia.

macbook air

not for editing or graphics, made for email, web, writing papers, and what the average person who uses a netbok/laptop do anyway. just more then i want to pay

Damn, they should have used their new iMovie to edit that down to a 30 minute interesting piece instead of the snorefest it was.
