The XR resolution is.... 1792 X 828. So it can only do 720P HD. In 2018 on a £750 phone... that is rubbish and will look so so so so bad next to the new XS and other phones.
It’s not even the resolution of the Plus they kept comparing it to..
Iphone 8 plus has the same ppi and cost more when new

I don't think that's true. 8 Plus is still for sale on Apple Website. Did you see explicitly somewhere the 8 Plus is going away? I don't think they'd get rid of all the larger plus phones with a physical (somewhat) home button.

Indeed, the updated UK website has the 8+ included in the lineup and to compare next to newer models. It wouldn’t have made sense to drop it.

They don't seem to be going out of their way to seek them out either. Here is their list of approved providers: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209096

Hope you weren't planning on using the eSIM on a trip to Italy, France, Spain, Japan, or pretty much anywhere because only 10 countries are currently supported. With a physical SIM you just pop it in and go and you know that it will work.

Because it is optional for now. I think Apple will force the issue soon. No carrier is going to not want to sell the iPhone.

That model is reportedly discontinued.
I assume they had the courage to take out the home button - to conclude that it didn’t have any remaining functionality then...

Is there a credible link for that? Even google isn’t confirming that and Apple have included it in the new iPhone section tonight on their website.

I'm not trying to be challenging, but where are you guys seeing this? It's still on Apple's website, and even Macrumors is saying that it's still part of the line up.

https://www.macrumors.com/2018/09/12/apple-discontinues-iphone-se-iphone-6s-iphone-x/

Trying to figure this out for sure, as my dad was interested in possibly upgrading his 6s Plus to an 8 Plus, but he will not even entertain the idea of no home button. So, trying to figure out if he needs to quickly update or not.

I have to say, Apple was more in-depth in details with the iPhone this than last year. They must have an Applause sign in the theater and amazing how it was even and at a precise time.

I thought so too. They used to focus on the features and the user experience and not the technical aspect of it. Since they have run out of many cool new features, they now have to focus on cool tech names and features.

Besides being IP68 and have an eSIM. no mayor hardware differences between X and XS (https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/).
The XS is 3 grams heavier o_O and have 20 hours of talk time vs 21 in the X.

My biggest disappointment is the lack of a decent charger inside the box. This is the new dongle-me
MacBook Pro style: all accessories sold separately...(faster charger, Pencil, AirPower...)

Apple continues to test the price ceiling, and until they see any impact on sales, they will keep raising it.

I don't know about you guys but I didn't hear a peep about wireless charging. Could it be because they are dragging their feet on the wire charger that supposed to be released ions ago, and are sticking to the lame lightening connector to USB A cable with the limp 2.5amp charger? For $1100. Really?

Could we at least get a USB-C charger?
No mention of AirPods or AirPower is kinda lame. I like the updates we got, but nothing was surprising. I already knew I’d be buying the Xs and Series 4. I’d really hoped the pricing rumors were true though… :(
I am afraid the device provisioning the AirPower also runs on some dead-slow 5 milliamp powerbrick

I don't think so. They even said the 8 Plus was there in the Keynote. I think someone just over-assumed it was going away. It's clearly not.

Overlap/cannibalisation with Xr (or XR whatever) ??

OLED is kind of like when retina screens first came out. You don’t know what you’re missing until you have it and then have to go back to using older tech. It’s horrible.

I can't say I agree with this at all. I had a Note 4 for a couple years and moved to a 7+ and the screen was just fine, if not even better. Now I'm back on the Note 8 and it isn't really much different. Just that now I have a huge probability of getting burn-in. I'm really not a fan of OLED.

Hell. The planet will run 7% slower.

We probably need to wait until they restart FileMaker Pro to regenerate the AppleStore
Another poster showed it was visible on the keynote presentation so I think we can safely assume it’s staying. I don’t think Apple would display it in their range only to pull it shortly afterwards. It’s good for consumers though as it’s slightly cheaper than the XR and in ‘some’ ways a better phone.

Ah. Then the new device’s greatest competitor will be the better previous model.
Happy hiking with that duhpgrade

Either that or

Well, to be fair they didn't have the bionic chip back then that can do all of this AI stuff to figure out what is foreground vs. background. I just tend to think that an artificial approach may cause more artifacts around the perimeter of such an effect. As it is now it's not anywhere close to perfect on the iPhone X with dual cameras.

Check out the Pixel 2 and you'll get your answer - it's actually better than Apple's implementation. It's all software. The dual cameras for portrait was just an artificial restriction to get people to pay the higher price for the plus.
I mean, it's also optical zoom. I prefer optical zoom.

Wow, A12 is just about exactly what I had expected!!!!!! Neural Engine gets a major upgrade along with the GPU. Better yet Neural Engine is now running ML apps. I know many don't think much was delivered this year but A12 is huge, it will enable an entirely new generation of apps. A12 is justification enough to upgrade in my mind as it indicates that Neural Engine is mature enough to power anybodies ML apps. On top of that we have a freed up GPU that is also much fast on its own.

Believe me, I am perfectly fine with what I saw on the LCD and suits my needs. For a small screen, I won't see much of a difference as oppose to a large screen such as a television viewing. I don't watch much videos anyway and no way would I want to pay extra for OLED when it is not necessary for me to dish out. I get no pleasure in watching videos on a small screen unless on an airplane and would at least prefer using a tablet with a larger screen.

Look at how the curve of the table matches the curve of the tile. That attention to detail in their products is one thing that has made Apple so special. Over recent years that attention has seemed to wane. Hoping they get back to that level of focus/detail.

This sort of attention to detail is pretty common. You just need to open your eyes to see it.

There’s not a huge amount of difference in size either. The 8+ is 8mm taller and 3mm wider which is pretty insignificant in my opinion. Plenty of choice in the lineup though and I expect the 8 and XR to be very popular this year. The XS Max looks to be in a league of its own with that horrendous price tag.

The Apple watch is what will get me to switch to Apple not the Iphone. I think it is a great concept and useful. It also looks really good. I carry around a my grandfathers 14k railroad pocket watch now. Lol old skool
In a way the iPhone is the equivalent of the old railroad pocket watches of the past. Those watches where key to running those business safely when there was little other technology to do so. These days you have people running their businesses on cell phones, those cell phones being as important as those old railroad watches of the past. i wouldn't be surprised to see a future Apple Watch suitable for running a business.
