My mother commenting on the S4 Watch and lack of 5/SE.

"The only problem I have with such a device is... it's a watch. Besides, if I wait a few years the watch will be the size of a iPhone 4 or 5 and I can once again put it in my pocket."
I mean she is my mother and all so I'm biased, but that's a smart lady.
Let her take Schiller’s post because she’s more of a visionary

Apple isn’t going to turn away any carriers.
They don't seem to be going out of their way to seek them out either. Here is their list of approved providers: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209096

Hope you weren't planning on using the eSIM on a trip to Italy, France, Spain, Japan, or pretty much anywhere because only 10 countries are currently supported. With a physical SIM you just pop it in and go and you know that it will work.

I have the same question. Realistically, the size of the Xs fits into a pocket way easier than the Xs Max will, based on my previous ownership of a 7 plus. I am torn right now.

Oh, so is that you in my head asking that question ... ?

:D

I've got a Plus I kept - mostly for dev purposes - and when I use it, it feels big, I'll occasionally compare it to my X, you know, pocket it, etc., and the X is just better. However, that's also comparing radically different designs, so it's a little Apple™ vs. Oranges. Just one other perk on the XS vs. XS Max and it might have been an easy choice, especially something relating to the camera (like when only Plus models had OIS).

To be honest, if I don't go with a Max, I probably won't even upgrade my X, it works fanatically well, I'm not performance limited, FaceID is like 99% accurate for me, it'll run iOS 12, and I'm set with my current storage capacity and carrier.

I would have wanted one if it had USB C (note: haven't looked at all of the pro's and con's) as the computers are all going that route, not to mention my other phone, and Nintendo Switch.

How about the iPhone Xr? It has an industry leading liquid crystal magic unicorn technology - a fresh departure from all those old CRT displays we’re used to seeing on low end $749 phones.
Xr would be my choice to get and not the other 2. I was watching the Livestream on my i6 and I was fine with the LCD screen.

@The-Real-Deal82. What do you think of the iPhone Xr? Doable for your upgrade?
I would have said yes until I saw it is £749 here. I doubt i’ll be able to get it on contract for less than £45 a month and that’s just too much. I’m not really into renting phones on upgrade schemes either as they are expensive just for the privilege.

Although it’s very boring and predictable I think i’ll be picking up an iPhone 8 which might look old but it’s a powerful phone for what I need. I’m quite disappointed though as I thought I could be swayed.

^^^ Bingo. This right here. No real difference between the X and Xs. Only reason to upgrade my X is if I wanted the larger form factor of the Xs Max (and I'm not convinced I want to go back to that size in my pocket again. I like the X form factor and screen size)

iPhone Xs Max: $1099 pre-order Sept 14, get it Sept 21.
iPhone Xs: $999 pre-order Sept 14, get it Sept 21.
iPhone Xr: $749 order Oct 19.

7 and 8 are kept in the lineup 8 Plus is gone.

8 starting at $599
7 starting at $449

I don't think that's true. 8 Plus is still for sale on Apple Website. Did you see explicitly somewhere the 8 Plus is going away? I don't think they'd get rid of all the larger plus phones with a physical (somewhat) home button.

That model is reportedly discontinued.
I assume they had the courage to take out the home button - to conclude that it didn’t have any remaining functionality then...
