Well I don't know about those products. It's been too long ago for me to remember but the first iMac Flat panel (while innovative and amazing) was also crap due to the wobbly screen and the loud optical drive.....and it wasn't even the first iMac.

The first 17" Powerbook G4 had hinge issues, heat issues and the fan was amazingly loud. Plus the lid didn't sit evenly from left to right. The second version was better but most of the aluminum Powerbook issues didn't get rectified until the Unibody MacBooks were invented.

While the first iPhone apparently was fine (based on what you stated) the iPhone 4 was a major disappointment with the antenna issues. Then came the iPhone 4S that corrected it.

There are many more Apple early adopter stories I can share.

Sometimes it's not just a defect. Sometimes the battery life just sucks in the first few iterations. Sometimes there are poor screen uniformities because of the type of screens Apple gets from Samsung and LG.

Cutting edge is tough. There are pros and cons to it. But I've had good experiences. In fact my Mom still had operational and sitting in her kitchen the first iMac Flat screen until just about a year ago. It still looked great and the screen still pivoted and held its position perfectly. I don't recall the CD player being loud, but maybe it was for some.

I don't believe the antenna was physically changed between the 4 and the 4s in a material way. I certainly never had problems with my 4, and it continues to get active duty as another hand down to my Mom.

Things get better. But Apple first generation devices are much less betas than any other companies. Check the "beta" of the Zune or something else comparable. How about the beta Samsung Gear watch from a year ago?

I also have operational first gen iPod and iPad. The iPad is still used. The iPod not so much because battery life is down to only about an hour or so.

I feel that some kind of pairing app for the Apple Watch and iPhone would be extremely handy, so that if either becomes separated from the other by more than a few metres, an alarm goes off. What do you reckon? I'm sure that's been considered already - it's pretty obvious :)

[EDIT]

I get a funny feeling that Apple have got something HUGE up their proverbial sleeve... and it's more huge than any "iPad Pro".

I get up at roughly the same time as Cook... Of course, I'm in a timezone 8 hours ahead of his.

Classic Eddy :p

He stole my idea, except in the other direction.

Tim, it's a daylight savings time bug on the Apple Watch. You actually got up at 5:30. You're going to be an hour late for the Apple Watch keynote!! How embarrassing! :p

Proof that Apple does read the forums here at MR. ;)

Newsflash:

Rumours have it that Apple watch will ship with a free novelty watch face...

Soon this thread will be filled with android users telling us how apple did not invent time so the apple watch is no big deal.

Would love this to be true, of course, but I think Apple is much too focused on the Watch being center of the show with the entire focus on the watch. All eyes on the watch, all news stories, blogs, focused on the watch. They need that to happen to help make this a giant success.

Waiting for the Spring Forward event with antiquated tech on my wrist.

That's fine by me; we can tell them they didn't invent the Linux kernel, either, nor did they invent THE PHONE. :D

Maybe I'm one of the few old enough to remember this, but Apple's graphic today looks familiar ...

Cheers!!

Samsung and Google didn't invent the concept of cloning other people's ideas but both Google and Samsung do a lot of that.

Samsung yes definitely, Google not so much I think.

Either way you know Samsung will soon announce Samsung Watch, which they've been working on for so long.
