No new iPad software. That's a bummer but if this means Apple is moving towards not releasing software that's not ready for prime time then good. Last thing we need is another iOS 8 fiasco.

Pretty poor update so far. Don't really understand why they would remove the rotation/mute swtich as well? Maybe to make room for that secondary mic?

It is the most significant update in performance and weight and other spec in all previous updates. Do you say that just for kicks?
