Not really. Everyone knows that the smartphone industry has plateaued, and we all expect a more radical design next year. The iPod of 2006 didn't look all that impressive compared to 2001. Things are cyclical. We are just at that stage where massive improvement isn't right on the horizon. Plus we know Apple is developing a car.

Sure there will be. The fact that there wasn't much of any mention of the Mac likely means they have another special event planned for October to talk about macOS Sierra and the new MacBook Pro in much more detail.
