Now re-read your comments from the iPad introduction. They were all like "Why would I EVER need a tablet?!" and "This is just a big iPhone and you can't even call someone with it." and "This can't replace my laptop."

Now everyone has a tablet.

In a year or two, those comments here about the apple watch will sound the same :D

That's what I'm thinking. I'm not sold on the idea of any smart watch. However I once said that I didn't see the point of the iPad when it we first released.

Anyhow I'm now watching the keynote, finally so I can make a valid impression of it. I wish the apple website wouldn't keep crashing though. Would much rather watch this on my iPad than Apple TV.

The lack of sapphire is probably a supply issue.

Could also be that the sapphire is going to be used for something else, less prone to impact shock. Sapphire is extremely strong and scratch resistant, but very brittle and will shatter under impact. Probably not the best choice for a phone.

I found the Watch in the 70s...

When I think square watch, I think this:

The venerable Tag Heuer Monaco from 1969. There's nothing wrong with a square watch if designed well.

Does anyone else not see the point of a watch that requires an even bigger iphone in your pocket?

I completely agree!
If the iWatch is so smart why does it need an iPhone?
Wasn't one of Steve Jobs' philosophy points about "Simplicity"? Why have two items when you can have an "all-in-one" device.

No need to convince myself. I collect watches and have many of them and Apple watch will NOT be one of them!

And for every action there is an equal or opposite reaction. I collect watches and have many of them and Apple Watch WILL be one of them.

It's an iPhone accessory. An extension that puts the core components into a wearable. Piggybacking makes total sense. If Verizon or AT&T had their way, they'd LOVE to have the Apple Watch be a separate device so they could charge its own data plan.

I'm not sure why people are giving Apple crap for this. Samsung has been doing it for two years now and no one's bitched at them for not having an all-in-one. It also saves battery power since BTLE (and NFC I guess, but that's on-demand) is the only radio that has to run. WiFi and LTE/G3 bands are power hogs.

U2's album now is in my library... altho it says it came in a 7am

I will listen. It wasn't BAD.....and it wasn't Justin Beiber

boy there are a TON of misinformed people out there. I blame the media

Was that a sweater around Tommy's neck or some type of shawl I would expect to see on a 90 year old grandma?

No, it isn't the right way to see the market.
Never owned an iPhone & I never will. Why?
Because of the plethora of superb FREE telephony apps for iPad & iPod Touch.
There are a countless number of people who want to communicate
but who see ZERO need for dedicated phone hardware, what with the iMessage, Skype & FaceTime apps.

By not having Apple Watch as a standalone device, they're ignoring, and losing,
these potentional customers because it requires an extra something they don't want
nor have any intention of ever getting at any time.

It could come over time. Remember the iPod originally required a Mac. A year or so later they came out with a Windows version. My guess is that we won't see an Apple Watch that works with Android or Windows Phone any time soon, but we might see one eventually. Or they will let it pair to an iPad (probably more likely). There isn't enough processing power or space on a watch to do everything, so it is a companion piece. Samsung's latest version with built in 3G is basically a shrunken iPhone 3G.

It's a box with rounded corners on a strap.

You don't think you, yes YOU personally could not have thought of anything more imaginative that a rounded cornered box on a strap ?

There's a reason why all of those futuristic cyberspace star trek watch mockups haven't made it a single time by any manufacturer. Instead you get boxes or discs on a strap each time. Technical limitations - and while the Apple Watch isn't for me (I have no use for it and I prefer regular watches), I think that they have come up with some neat ideas like the digital crown.

30 day battery, expandable hardware, full QWERTY keyboard, 360° touch surface - all wrapped smartly around your wrist

Gave up trying to watch in the end and went back to the good old MR live blog. Constant stop/start and a bizarre Chinese audio translation made it unwatchable.

Thanks... that's what they told Steve Jobs when he came up with the idea of the iPhone.

As for being lazy? Yeah... that's what they told the users of the iPhone... that they needed a smart phone because they are too lazy to do it themselves.

The iPhone and its apps were designed because people are lazy. Proof in point... I can use my iPhone to pay for things because I'm too damn lazy to reach in my wallet and take out my credit card.

Come on smart guy.... get with the times.

Your supercilious slippery-slope argumentative fallacy FAILS. Try, try again.

Oh oh Microsoft/Google troll alert.

That's the true mark of a fanboy; any and all criticism of Apple must mean Microsoft/Google troll. And of course, those exist, although surely not in the numbers that Apple holds. As for me - here's my history. I built my own Windows PCs from 1996 to 2002. At that point I switched to Macs. Been on them ever since, laptops and desktops. Had 3 iPhones - switched last year to an Android phone and have been very happy, as they work and play well with my Mac computers. Wife has an iPad - that's nice too.

In other words, I'm not religious about my product choices. I just choose whichever one suits me best at the time. The zealots are the ones that always see "troll!" whenever someone points out their own slavish devotion. As in most things, blind faith in anything will eventually cost you. Good luck with that course.

Keynote at a glance

1. Introduce new iphones
2. Rape customers on pricing
3. Introduce new Iwatch
4. Rape customers on pricing
5. U2

In the UK the 64GB version of the iPhone I want is £110 cheaper than the price I paid for the 5s last year.

I'm very pleased with this years pricing.

Finally got to watch the whole thing. The phones are still not wowing me. However the Apple watch did! I also like the demo for that new game it looked awsome.
