Seemed like an impressive bunch of demonstrations today. iMessage seemed very powerful. I suspect there was some soiling of trousers in some parts thinking that people are going to spend more time on iMessage and less time using another chat service. Also Siri getting more powerful at search is going to lower the amount of Google search. How much is that going to hurt Google if Mac Users switch 10% of their searches to Siri from Google? It would be a huge effect is my guess.
I liked the Swift Playground. It probably was geared toward even younger audience members than the students in the crowd, but its effect could be very significant.

Pfff... everyone can pick on Eddy Cue all they want. But he announced Single Sign-On for streaming services. He wins the day... over the entire streaming device industry, even.

So... NO new MacBook Pro ???

I think they're waiting for Kaby Lake to come out. Then get replaced by Cannon Lake. Before they downgrade the Macbook Pro to the same toy Skylake chip they put in the macbook.

Either that or they're retooling the macbook pro to use all the surplus A9 chips from the iPhone 6s' they didn't sell.

Another thing I don't like about the latest keynotes is the amount of people presenting. Steve always had no more than two additional guest speakers and of course more were introduced as his health was deteriorating. Now, we just have too many people.
The lady talking about Swift playgrounds and the couple playing with iMessage was insanely painful to watch. I hate all the jokes and playful games between the executives (Craig/Cue). A little is OK but now there is too much of it.
Get back to the basics and if there is not much to announce, make it shorter than actually fill with useless demos and jokes.

Since Intel's road map has also slowed down, it means the "cost" of being a generation behind isn't as great. Granted, Skylake would be nice for the power consumption (case in point the new MacBook), but it wouldn't make sense for there to be a Skylake update earlier if there is a more radical redesign in the works. Remember the 28W Skylake chips just started shipping a few weeks ago.

The only time Apple ever got an "early" release of an Intel chip was the "special" version of the chip that was in the original MacBook Air. We all know how that turned out (it overheated a lot and throttled very badly). And Microsoft and others who rushed to release 15W Skylake devices experienced many issues with crashing.

Apple won't announce the MacBook Pro update until it is ready to ship. Unlike with the MacBook, which was a new line, they can't pre-announce it 2-3 months in advance.
Craig said iOS and Mac devices will get special Apple silicon.

Intel is done. ARM next. Or Craig is wrong?

Clean? You mean if they're yellowed? I did a retrobrite job on them a while back and they're in my basement office out of direct sunlight. They are still in perfect working condition.

That's cool, very cool. I will buy one (A500 or A1000); it's probably the best computer ever made.

Tim Cook's Apple is all about stupidity from the executives. Instead of focusing on the real problems at Apple, they have executives who decide to come out with additional features that will cause problems.

Exactly! The polish seems to be missing on almost EVERYTHING they showed today. I could sit here and pick holes in everything they showed - like what if I have your Apple Watch? I can go and unlock your iMac/Macbook Pro? Didn't seem like the person did any kind of TouchID authentication in the video.

What about the Universal clipboard? Every time I copy something on my iPhone does it overwrite whatever clipboard contents I might have on my Mac?

I could go on.

Yes, but Apple has never had significantly dropping sales of the one device the majority of it's profits are made from and a significant drop in share price as a result, faced hostile governments (India) who will not allow them to do certain things, or had a hardware range where the MacBook is the ONLY up to date computer, by several years in the case of the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro..

If their ever was a time in Apple's history where they needed to announce new hardware at WWDC, this is it.
Your point is noted, and Agreed.

That said, I am hoping they break the mold a bit this year, and host a few special events to share what they are working on. The company is larger than ever, with a huge new campus in the works, and thousands of employees. Many (maybe only some) of us are holding out that they are working on big new things.

I too hope to see some innovation come back into the light from Apple, but, I am not overly worried just yet. This isn't even close to the fragmented, lost feelings Apple had during the late 90s. I think those who hadn't experienced that, are jumping to conclusions a bit too early. It may be a bit blurred, but Apple still has focus. Especially when compared to those old times.

I think exactly the opposite.

I loved the new watch features, that my mac can be unlocked by my watch, the new photos features, home automation features. New Swift stuff. Cut-and-paste across all devices. ApplePay on my mac. It was all excellent, and MUCH more than I was expecting. But this is from the point of view of a working dad with a family.

The emoticon stuff I could care less about, but I understand the demographics that thought that was the best part.

Hardware rarely comes out at WWDC. It's a mostly software event. So, I don't miss any of that.
Do you have a home that can take advantage of the homekit?

For people expecting a Mac Pro segment, what are you smoking? The last time Apple devoted precious time to Mac Pro was 2013, because they redesigned it. The 2010 updates did not get any screen time, it was done via a press release, same as 2012 updates.

Good thing none of this is coming out before 'fall'. My heart probably couldn't handle the strain... o_O

Like the old joke about the IBM salesperson that sat on the bed the morning he was to be married and spent over an hour telling his wife-to-be how incredible it was going to be... *YAWN* But some of the features sound interesting.

One thing that surprised me was the slide left on the current release of iOS on the iPad pulls up a list of apps. I don't remember hearing about that before. Now there will be a swipe right too? Isn't it already gotten 'over-swiped'? Up, down, left, right. Soon to come, diagonal? (Crap! I gave someone the idea? :()

The comment forums on this site have become a cesspool of negativity. There was some truly awesome stuff announced today.
This place is becoming less enjoyable to frequent. Almost 2,000 posts and 99.9% are negative even though a lot of good stuff was announced today. If you hate Apple that much go somewhere else already and spare everyone else the constant negativity.

People, maybe Apple is just skipping to Kaby Lake? Maybe Sky Lake doesn't provide that much of a improvement over the current lineup? Maybe they'll just convert the Sept. event into all hardware event?
