Kind of but not really. They don't typically do anything huge in the WWDC keynote. Honestly, the iPad features added to iOS are some of the biggest additions to iOS in some time.

Where's the iPhone iOS update? Redesigning the messy iMessages app is nice (doesn't look any better imo - but at least shows they attempted to fix it LOL). Aside from that, it's basically iOS 10, which we were looking forward to getting rid of. At least give us dark mode to hold us over.

They did a ton this keynote, don't get me wrong. They have been very busy doing work. I am really not fond of poor time management though, and when you release a mediocre iOS update, I really don't appreciate another mediocre release the following year.

Both major Apple OSs are hopefully stability updates. I agree I would like to see some revamp (although, you have to admit the iPad stuff is pretty great), but I understand the value of a iterative improvement.

And Google totally ripped Apple off with Android. FACT!!! Deal with it! They also ripped off the digital assistant and high PPI (retina) screens. Nobody was even thinking about that before Apple released them.

Actually your wrong, history will show you Android was demoed on touch screens long before iOS appeared anywhere, fact. Also Android devices left and superseded Apples screens heads, and I do mean years ago, they didn't copy them, they beat them into none existence with PPI levels. And do you have proof that no one was thinking of higher PPI screens before Apple then?

I agree, very happy with some things, but Apple still has a lot of making up to do in my eyes. Not happy with iPhone iOS. I also am not a big fan of their implementations for the lockscreen, or control center. Definitely will be taking advantage of jailbreak tweaks to fix those two features, since jailbreak developers almost always come up with better implementations.

There are already tweaks that do the two things that Apple added to for lockscreen notifications, and control center, but now that it's baked into iOS, top notch jailbreak devs will create better implementations, as it's been brought to the foreground.

As an avid Sonos and Apple user, I find it hard to justify putting in a HomePod if it doesn't integrate with my existing hardware.

Apple should have acquired SONOS about 5 years ago. Now that Apple is competing with them directly, SONOS has every incentive to integrate Alexa so you can control your SONOS system from an echo dot.

I thought this was really great keynote. I'm surprised people hated it so much.

I haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing yet, but my guess is things that triggered people:

1) HomePod price/features (compared to products already available)
2) Michelle Obama
3) Cost of iMac Pro

As usual the price kills another product on arrival...

If it has solid sound quality - its not too much of a price - I have an Echo and its has mediocre sound. A smart speaker that can also be the hub for my homekit. I think its worth it.

Its aesthetics are comparable to the Google Home product and more bookcase friendly than Echo.

The truth is somewhere in the middle there were things Android ripped off from Apple and vice versa. Apple was really first with screen only (no keyboard) implementation of a smart phone.

The problem with Android is the quality of applications and the fragmentation of the OS base. I was in Android for years but switched to Apple iOS three years ago and won't go back.

My WWDC17 Keynote Conclusions:

Hardware-wise:

MACS
  • MacBooks: The finally released the MB and MBP with the processors that have been available for more than 6 months in most cases. Remember MBP with Touch Bar was launched 7-8 months ago with outdated processors.
  • iMacs: Same as MacBooks. Could have released it on Late 2016.

Macs features expected: Magic Keyboard with illuminated keys or Magic Keyboard with Touch Bar. NOTHING RELEASED.

Surprise: iMac Pro. Looks stunning. Great color. Maybe people expected nVidia, but it’s ok with Radeon Vega. 7 months till release. Too early announcement or too late release.

Without iMac Pro announcement, the headlines would have been: ‘Apple finally released the updated Macs that should have released on Late 2016, more than 6 months late!”

iPads:
  • New iPads with A10X processors. Keep in mind A11 is 3 months away. So, again, we get a 9 month-old architecture.

iPads features expected: Near-bezel-less design with no home button. NOTHING. Remember we’ve got months of rumors about low yields, etc etc. For only increasing screen size, it could have been released as always on March!

Software-wise:
  • tvOS: CERO
  • watchOS: Mostly CERO. Watchfaces and that’s all.
  • macOS: Mostly CERO new features. Only two updated Apps: Safari and Photos.
  • iOS: New Control Center….and….. and… new AppStore Design and ApplePay in Messages. Some cool features for iPad, but MUCH less than expected.

Keynotes from 3 or 4 years ago were, FEATURES, FEATURES & FEATURES; CHANGES, CHANGES & CHANGES….

That would be incredible. But Echo still has a long way to go. HomePod is still WAY behind, but Echo needs to make a number of strides before the other services pass them up.

If Sonos supports Google Assistant (which is possible), you're talking about a huge uphill climb for Apple. Heck, Sonos could form an alliance with either Google or Amazon and save what is a now struggling company.

I think Sonos will end up offering you your choice of controlling your system with Alexa or Google Assistant. Of course you'll have to say something ridiculous like "Hey Alexa, Use Sonos to play Use Somebody" but still easier than using a phone or tablet.

Curious that Siri wasn't a main focus today and Eddy Cue wasn't anywhere on stage. I wish it meant he was on the way out...

The early announcement was a welcome signal to the pro user community that they have not been entirely forgotten. Apple's top hardware has always been obscenely priced. The all-in-one is not ideal, but I'm guessing it was much faster to get it to market than a mac pro replacement.

A little of something for everyone.
Hoping for a Mac mini pro.

Actually the first smart phones with no keyboards pre-dated the iPhone by several years, and they were not Android either.
As for poor apps? You do realise the majority of the apps in Android are the same ones as in iOS right? And fragmentation, no that's down to carrier bloat ware. Manufactures have the ability to update their devices, that's got nothing to do with Android if they choose not to, and to be fair a fairer few of them do. I certainly would'nt listen to anything Apple says in the matter, considering it's a direct competitor to them?

Mr. Cook is doing an outstanding job.

Do you feel the same way with all of the other major tech CEOs in silicon valley speaking out as well on various issues? Which is part of their (and Mr. Cook's) job, by the way.

How would you have him spend his time differently? Be specific.

⬆ Well, Mrs. Cook, we all can't view your son's character & performance the way you do. It is admirable, your continued support of him. Now go give 'The Beav' a cookie.
