I'd get New York Times before I'll get this Daily app. Fox News is behind this and therefore, it'll be nothing but biased right-wing propaganda. I'll try the free trial to get a feel how this app is compared to others. Hopefully, NYT isn't far behind with their offering.

I probably have an above-average interest in news compared to my peers, but I do think that there is a market for publications such as The Daily. Personally, I hate Fox News so I'm skeptical of The Daily's journalistic slant. But I'd be willing to give it a try if/when I get an iPad.

iPad/tablet-based news will be successful if:
-it offers content beyond what is freely available on websites
-Hi-res photos, audio clips, embedded video, 360
-Touch-optimized UI
-bookmarks, archives, annotations, etc.

-the subscription model is convenient and cheap
-$1 per week is about right
-one touch renewal/sign up
-easy to subscribe/cancel different publications

the app is fast, easy, and fun to use

Personally, I would probably prefer Associated Press, Time, Newsweek, New York Times, CNN or even MSNBC. But this is a start and hopefully others will follow.

Well, I played for about 40 minutes. Their carousel (really cover flow IMO) is laggy as hell. Really poor first impression. Otherwise, it's pretty quick and slick. Would really like to see a finance/business section. It has a gossip section, that may foretell who they are going after.

Thank you Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos to let media companies sell their web content to us, something we enjoyed for free till now thanks to Tim Berners Lee. You are on the right path to undone everything that's been positive in the WWW.
Are you kidding? Rupert Murdoch has been pushing for paid news content for years.

It's called irony. Or sarcasm, if you like.

I'm honestly getting kind of sick of spending so much time trawling RSS feeds to get my fix on the news. I think I'm about ready to step back and have the good stuff spoon-fed to me by a team of pros.

This sounds good to me.

Pros, as in prostitutes
Actually I'm sorry to denigrate members of the "oldest profession" by associating them with these liars and hate mongers!

Everyone has their own interests and for me that is essential to go to the web sites that have that content. I don't watch TV because you are forced fed their programming. I also don't look at video on the internet, takes too much time. I prefer text for my information. I think the "Daily" will be similar to TV with a lot of slow video. I prefer to choose my own source of news and info, especially the foreign new sites. US media news coverage is dismal.

IMO, the masses are not ready to pay for their daily news. I think they're fighting a long, uphill battle here. They should give it away for at least the first week. Try and get people hooked.

Read the article. It's free the first two weeks.

It has an independent editorial board and their own reporting and photojournalism.

The photograph in the front page is from the Associated Press. They may have their own photojournalism, but how much remains to see. I don't think they have the resources to send out people all over the world, at least not yet.

People should prepare for a lot of the "original iPad content" just being re-written Reuters / AP reports with slick presentation. Actually that would be good, because I think their coverage would suck if they were to do it all themselves.

The impression I got previously was this is precisely what you'll be getting (plus whatever content's available from their current news sites, repackaged). In depth detail, not so much.

I love how people complain about Fox News and them being "biased" when all other news organizations have been liberal slanted for years before they came along.

Regardless of ones view point in politics though, a TRULY educated person will get view points from those that differ from your own. I will listen to what the liberal media is saying and doing just so I get to see their side. While I NEVER agree with them, at least I do not blindly shut them out.

This is a great app and will certainly change how news is delivered in the future. Print is going to be a thing of the past in the not so distant future.

The amount of Fox News hate in this thread and any other thread with "Daily" in the title is friggin' hilarious.

Rupert Murdoch is the slimeball who owns Fox News. Why is Apple partnering with him?
