Yes I'm sure News Corp has magically transformed overnight into rational, truth seeking, paragon of virtue.

Get real people.

Bye, PY. If you can't be 'Fair and Balanced', I don't need to read your posts. Prejudice -- from either side -- is unacceptable.

It's not prejudice it is judgement based on facts.

Credit card in one hand iPad in the other. Where do I sign up?

Here we have a profile of the perfect Apple Worshipper, no questions asked, just tell me what to do and how much of my money you want. I will then retreat to my room within the compound and wait for the next command.

HAHAHHAHAA read some of his posts he's far from an Apple Worshiper.

Im not talking about content I'm talking about peoples opinions. Thats like me saying I hate you because I hate Skunks, yet I have no idea who you are or even what Skunk means in your name. Maybe you hate Skunks too.

For the record Skunks are awesome!

Hm... I must have missed something, cause I don't hate anybody. I just think it'd be funny if they just surprised the hell out of everyone by coming out with another version of their news that's totally left-biased instead.

But yea, I'd take a skunk over any politically skewed trash rag. The only unbiased news I've found that's worth reading (& worth paying for) is in the peer-reviewed sci journals. Apple ought to get with Nature.com and put together something spiffy & promote that.

I hope The Daily is nothing like Faux News
During the final days of the 2008 presidential race, Bill Sammon used his position as a top Fox News editor to engage in a campaign to link then-Sen. Barack Obama to "Marxists" and "socialism," internal Fox documents and a review of his televised appearances show.

On October 27, 2008, Sammon sent an email to colleagues highlighting what he described as "Obama's references to socialism, liberalism, Marxism and Marxists" in his 1995 autobiography Dreams From My Father. Shortly after sending the email, Sammon -- then the network's Washington deputy managing editor -- appeared on two Fox News programs to discuss his research and also wrote a FoxNews.com piece about Obama's "affinity to Marxists" that was disseminated throughout the conservative blogosphere.

Ahhhh, NO, it's prejudice.

Websters:

A prejudice is a prejudgement: i.e. a preconceived belief, opinion, or judgment made without ascertaining the facts of a case.

The case would be: you reviewed an App and its content, admittedly, without using or reading the content. Therefore you prejudged it based on "being biased or having a belief or attitude formed beforehand".

Prejudice, like it or not, that is what you were in your "review". "Facts" would be if you had read the content, then listed representative articles (from the App you reviewed) that supported your opinions.

It's your label, deservedly so. Wear it with pride :)

IMO, the masses are not ready to pay for their daily news. I think they're fighting a long, uphill battle here. They should give it away for at least the first week. Try and get people hooked.

You're right.. they should give it away for a week.. WAIT.. they are.. for 2 weeks

Its also hypocritical. He's doing exactly what hes "fighting" against.

Hey, I like that idea.

pooryou just got rated 1 star.

This is directly related to this app/news , it's company history and value or lack thereof.

I agree that some discussion is about the app but most of it is about the company behind the app and the preconception of the content it will contain. More pertinent to this discussion would be topics such as how the app works, it's design, the pricing, the announcement. I just wish there was a place to discuss the application and not the social/political backings of the app developers.

I for one think the app shows a promising future for other magazine subscriptions and how they can be integrated on the iPad. I don't think I'm interested in a daily magazine but a monthly subscription (Men's Health, GQ etc.) would be nice. It's a little buggy at this point but it is a unique content distribution system.

Meh, won't win me over from BBC, plus I can stream BBC News on this.

And the BBC aren't bias or anything ;)
(Massice sarcasm used in sentence above, incase it wasn't obvious)

good for headlines (it is what I check in the mornings on the bog) but not exactly what I would call high-quality, in-depth journalism (not that I am implying The Daily is either...)

I hear you. It's a good point.

Murdoch said it will cost $500,000 a week to produce... do you realize what you're asking?

Where would quality journalism come from if journalists couldn't be paid. Do you think it is free to send journalists to Cairo and cover the stories in Egypt, or anywhere? You will always be able to find stories for free, it is the very nature of the web. But an organized, interactive format that allows me NOT to search feeds and NOT bounce around the WWW trying to search for my news, I'll take it. And I believe the people out researching these stories for me deserve to make a reasonable living, as do I for what I do.

What is it with the duality of America? Not enough jobs, give me work, wages are too low - but hey, I want everything for free. No one should be paid to research and deliver the news I so think I deserve . . . .

14 cents a day, if that really is too much for your finances, then you really have far greater concerns than what ever may be the day's headline. That's probably the cost in gas to start most of our cars before going to work. Work that we expect to be paid for.

Sorry dude, that was Sarcasm at the response of so many on here crying for FREE stuff. Should have put Sarcasm smilie or something there.

Totally agree with having lots of things in one, unified source...like a Magazine...sure you can find all the info on the net but having the mag condenses it in one spot, no searching.

So, you like "Liberals are Nazis, because they are", Fox (Bill O) style rhetoric? Repeated 160 times per day.

Slow down and realize what this is people

I don't think some people are getting what this is. This is NOT a news app rehashing a print newspaper or cable news network.

It is, to paraphrase Eddy Cue, an entirely NEW news publication but FOR tablets. This is not BBC for the iPad, or NYT for the iPad, it's The Daily, not provided anywhere else. It has an independent editorial board and their own reporting and photojournalism.

As for the slant, where-ever on the spectrum it is, they did state that it will have it's own distinctive voice, something every news media has.

Go to the political forum to rant on Murdoch, at least he is attempting to develop new platforms for news organizations to profit from and not simply reformatting already written web or tv based content to the iPad.

He's no Apple worshiper, he's a FOX News worshiper.

Since they're giving it away for free for 2 weeks, I guess not.

I think there's a market

I probably have an above-average interest in news compared to my peers, but I do think that there is a market for publications such as The Daily. Personally, I hate Fox News so I'm skeptical of The Daily's journalistic slant. But I'd be willing to give it a try if/when I get an iPad.

iPad/tablet-based news will be successful if:
-it offers content beyond what is freely available on websites
-Hi-res photos, audio clips, embedded video, 360
-Touch-optimized UI
-bookmarks, archives, annotations, etc.

-the subscription model is convenient and cheap
-$1 per week is about right
-one touch renewal/sign up
-easy to subscribe/cancel different publications

the app is fast, easy, and fun to use

Personally, I would probably prefer Associated Press, Time, Newsweek, New York Times, CNN or even MSNBC. But this is a start and hopefully others will follow.
