Again, the 'liberal media' meme was a deliberate political invention of the 70's. Does not, and has never existed. Its corporate media, thru and thru.
There is no one as far left on any of the 'liberal' sources you site as the ilk of Beck and O'Reilly are on the right. For that to be the case, Noam Chomsky or Castro would have to have a nationally syndicated show.

And FOX 'news' viewers consistently rate as the FACTUALLY most misinformed of all information consumers.

Give me a break. I'm intelligent enough to recognize bias on either side. The "mainstream media" is so left-leaning is should be obvious to anyone who isn't highly tilted in that direction and thinks it's the norm. I'm surprised Joe Klein with Time hasn't legally changed his name to Joe Obama by now through legal adoption. And did you watch the 2010 election coverage by MSNBC? Wow. I thought The Daily Kos had gone televised.

And Fox News is as clearly right-wing as MSNBC is to the left. Any fool can see that.

Oh, and Maddow + Olbermann are just as kooky left as Beck + O'Reilly are kooky right.

Sounds like you've bought the propaganda being fed to you by the MSM money-making machine.

FYI, your own biases do not establish the neutral center line.

No better than O'Reilly. Very open minded - NOT. A review with out actually reading the content. We are so impressed by your intellect.

Not trying to impress you, and I expected the sour grapes responses.
I am familiar enough with News Corp to give a valid opinion without reading their drivel.

as others have already mentioned, this is identical to magazines. If you never had a subscription before then its no wonder this does not appeal to you.

In my head, I enjoy receiving my magazines monthly, they usually show up unpredictably and give me something to flip through when im bored. Basically its just a place to waste time, and what you pay is for someone to 'sort' all the worlds info, into one category which YOU chose because it interests you.

Anyways im more excited for other publishers jumping boat to this, I would definitely subscribe to this over a real magazine subscription any day considering the cheaper price and extra features.

I dream of a future where every magazine is available via this distribution method.

Wait, what the hell. You're supposed to review the application...not the affiliated news organization.

The 'application' is merely a mouthpiece for the diseased affiliated news organization. I stand by my review, and expect many others will follow suit.

Don't worry, you couldn't impress me. Your post speaks for itself. An uninformed opinion - period. You pass judgement on that which you have not read. Blind bias is just as ugly on either side of the fence. Nothing sour grapes about my response, just evaluation of your open mindedness, or lack thereof.

The "sour grapes" are reflected in your comment "Up yours, News Corp".

My opinion is well informed and the 'up yours' is sincere and well deserved.

I agree completely. 'Defensive' is the only way to describe the editor.

There was nothing in that Q&A session that sparked confidence that these guys know what they're doing. They may (or may not) have made a fancy app, and I'm sure they're good at making money, but I don't trust for a second that they actually KNOW what they're making nor who it's for.

Most every 'answer' ignored the initial question, Murdoch's in particular. He's clearly just in it for the money without understanding it.

"Everyone!". Cop-out answer.
"I've tried some of the games...". Cop-out answer and an absolute travesty of an attempt at humour to distract from the fact he knows sweet FA about the medium he's launching this thing on.

It's during these Q&As that I wish the reporters would press the guys on stage for more specific answers. There was only one guy that seemed to do that, though I can't remember which site he's from.

The editor was rude and cocky. Your thoughts are dead on.

I couldn't help but laugh after a person in the audience asked Murdoch what his favorite apps are for the iPad besides The Daily. "Oh, I've tried some of the games... My 7 year old beats me, though." What kind of an answer is THAT? That was SO sad to hear. Know your platform, for crying out loud. That was weak.

It's too late. Why should anybody want to pay for something that you can get for free all over the web? The ship with pay-for news content sailed ten years ago. The Internet has effectively killed the content industries, they just have not caught up with the fact yet. Ads are their only chance for income now.
Not everyone has as much free time as you to trawl through the internet to find the best free content from every source. Plus people (not cheapskates obviously) will always be willing to pay a fair price for enthusiastically and professionally put together material about subjects that interest them. I am not necessarily talking about news. RetroGamer in the UK is a brilliant example of this.

Paying for quality news is the way forward - people can't expect quality journalism from free newspapers forever.

I hasten to add that I don't consider News Corp to produce quality journalism, but the model works, and a standard way to easily subscribe to or purchase conent will make things more accessible.
Agreed. The Times (UK) - also owned by News Corp - is a great newspaper with a great iPad app. I am happy to pay for it (it is cheaper than buying the paper copy every day).

My opinion is well informed and the 'up yours' is sincere and well deserved.

Comical, and totally lacking in credibility. You admit to not reading the publication or trying the App that you gave a 1-star review to. So it is not "well informed". Simple fact.

Anymore than a restaurant review by a person who hasn't eaten the food. You are no more open minded than O'Reilly slamming a person as a "pinhead" simply because he is a Democrat, even though he has not personally interviewed or known him.

Blind bias is your right. But it is what it is in the case of your review - untried, unread, untested and uninformed, no matter how "sincere".

I think it's interesting.

The app itself is pretty slick. I believe they picked an interesting group of people to do editorials for the first edition.

Two weeks of this will be a good enough measure whether or not it is worth $40 per year.

The audience is interesting though. This is not replacing the New York Times or the Washington Post, or even your local newspaper. This really has the feeling of something you read in the evening and is an interesting mix of information.

So long as it is not just Fox News content, I believe that it will be pretty successful.

Totally. You have to really take things for face value. Sort out the facts from the opinions, and than do some research on your own. We live in a day of age where any one can give an opinion to masses. People these days seem to just think that since they saw it on the "news" its true. Most of the reporting these days are opinions of facts.

Take in the facts, take in the opinions, research the issue, and draw conclusions.

"We believe this a new era, and we want a new brand and a new voice. In terms of our editorial page, we're patriotic. We believe in free ideas, and free people...."

Soooo, they've gone from far right to far left? Yikes!

I wonder what that would look like...

LOL @ the anti-Fox News rage. What's the matter, don't you guys get enough left-wing bias from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, NYT, Newsweek, Time, and on and on that you have to gripe about the sole right-wing outlet? :p

You crazy Americans haven't got a clue.

Those aren't left wing news outlets. This is more like it. :D

Why does it always have to be left or right. Why can't people just read the damn articles and draw a conclusion instead of bashing something they have no knowledge about at all.

people align their beliefs with people they associate with. Very few align their beliefs first and then chose the people the associate with. Politics or not, it looks like a sleek app that may help magazines come to the ipad in a better form. Rupert looks old......

You can dream of a centrist press all you want, but what sells is finely manufactured outrage.

Im not talking about content I'm talking about peoples opinions. Thats like me saying I hate you because I hate Skunks, yet I have no idea who you are or even what Skunk means in your name. Maybe you hate Skunks too.

For the record Skunks are awesome!
