"Glossy" screen means that Apple saves the cost of an expensive anti-reflective coating. If this was a "Good Thing they would switch to selling Glossy ACDs. But Apple knows that if they did the professional photographers, film editors and others would abandon the ACD for Dell or some such in a second.

I think Apple put the glossy screens on the iMac so that iMac sales will not cannibalize Mac Pro/ACD sales. They had to do something to make the iMac unsuitable for professional use.

I hope I'm wrong and there is an option to upgrade to a non-reflective screen.

Web Gallery

AUGUST 7, 2007
Web Gallery is a new .Mac feature that lets you share photos and movies on the web, in full quality and with a choice of stunning views. (Go and see for yourself.)
To publish photos, first make sure your .Mac account is set up in System Preferences. Next, update your version of iPhoto '08 to 7.0.1 by choosing Software Update from the Apple menu and following the prompts to install.
After installation, open iPhoto, select an album or event, and click the Web Gallery icon at the bottom of the window. Specify whether your photos will be viewable by everyone, selected visitors, or just you.
You can also allow visitors to download your photos. And you can let them upload their own – even via email or mobile phone.
Once you’ve selected your options, click Publish. The URL for your Web Gallery will appear above the published photos, and the album will be listed under Web Gallery in the left-hand column.
To send out an announcement email, click Tell a Friend at the bottom of the window

iWork update too. Spreadsheet icon in the dock, bottom right corner.

Apple is playing catch up BIG TIME..

so far, the new iMac "design" isn't so great - the speed bumps are very welcome though.

new keyb - looks cool! hope they sell it separate..

iPhoto 08? what a joke! web gallery and integrate iphone with it? come on.. flickr has been doing this for years.. i can export straight to flickr (via shozu) from my nokia no probs and publish any iphoto album to flickr (using flickrexport) for years too..
it's basically the same damn thing - nothing new or revolutionary

unless imovie/idvd are miles ahead of what's already out there, this is just going to bomb

Market doesn't seem to care much. Apple stock hasn't changed since 11 this morning. And I agree. I'm waiting for Jobs to say, "And one more thing...."

Everyone check out Engadgets coverage, find a screenshot of a demo and look at the far right side of the dock. Bar graphs for an icon baby, a spreadsheet is coming.

They really are pushing this .Mac thing

It seems most of iLifes new features are dependent on you buying a .Mac membership.

I was really hoping they'd be throwing in some kind of .Mac subscription with iLife. Even if it was only with a couple of gig of space with the option to buy more.

Oh well.

Good God, there had better be a big "one last thing" announcement at the end, or that crowd of computer nerds is going to start a riot and tear up that theater. What a horrible waste of everyone's time so far.

Keep talking about iPhoto, Steve. Lull them to sleep so you can slip quietly out the side entrance and run for your life, laughing and giggling at how you managed to pull off your B.S. show one more time.

Isn't Steve's baby right now really the iPhone? I am guessing the computers are not that exciting to him right now.

I feel ya on that. If they don't announce new Cinema Displays, I'm done. :(

Wait for the "One more thing..." As CNBC just pointed out live on TV, there is more hardware most likely to be shown. Notice something sitting under a black cloth in the iLife '08 photo?

New Cinema Displays? :)

i dont get it, aluminum and black on the body and aluminum and white on the keyboard and mouse, why not black heys with a black mouse? or why not keep the whole thing aluminum...dumb

The glossy coating gives color saturation and perceived contrast ratios an edge. There are many pro studios that use glossy displays. It's preference. Customers requested it (and rightly so). Apple implemented it. There's no "hidden technique to get people to buy the non-reflective ACD" ploy going on here.

I think the ability to email photos to a web iPhoto pool (contributions) is a really strong value added feature. I like the ability to organize photos by event. Sensible.

The bluetooth keyboard is an element to driving you away from your computer chair to your cough or recliner. On that basis I will be getting one at some point.

I want a MacBook rather than an iMac however and I want an external display that is multi-purpose for computer, TV and DVD.

I also think the new video treatment is a welcome addition. I have lots of videos with no iPhoto like way to deal with them.
