Ugh... he's gonna talk about iLife for an hour now. I don't think there's any new hardware aside from the iMac.

I'm soooo glad I didn't wait to buy my iMac last week. Glossy? UGH!! IMHO, these new iMacs are ridiculously ugly and not much of an improvement inside over mine.

Hahaha, yeah right. Keep telling yourself that, you might actually start to believe it.

:apple:

engadget's reporting is weird.

From engadget:

"...That's an overview of iPhoto '08." The crowd starts clapping, which seems a bit unnecessary."

LOL criticizing the crowd. how very cute.

What can these "pretty large" upgrades allow me to do that I can't do now? Nothing. Without a much lower price point, and the ability to swap out decent graphics cards, the new iMac doesn't do anything much more than the old iMac.

What does any computer upgrade allow you to do that you couldn't do before? It is software that controls what you can do with your hardware.

The hardware itself just determines the speed at which the software runs.

Not really from where I'm standing, but yes - it's highly unlikely to be the 2900XT even on the high-end models. (ah, beaten to it by the keynote pix :D - super low end cards then as usual :p)

I like the look of the new keyboard. Likely has to be scissor action, so typing precision will increase over the terrible old keyboards. That's a welcome. Would fit the look of the Macbook Pros better as well, I presume it'll be sold separately. I'll definitely be picking those up as an upgrade / change from the Apple keyboards I still have and my Keysonics.

Well, the problem is the matter of cost. Retail costs on the high-end boards are extremely high, so very, very, very unlikely we will see it in a standard config at all on any machine from Apple. You cut the cost in half to a mid-range, and yet you still get most of the performance at half the price.

Not every desktop gamer can afford the top-of-the-line, and those that can likely are the ones hanging out here bitching about it. :p

Although, Apple should offer a high-end card as a BTO option at least.

Steve doesn't like the new iMacs either!

Did anyone notice that Steve Jobs spent aprox. five minutes (!) on the new iMac design and then went straight into iLife tutorials?

If anything shows how how boring/similar these designs are to the originals or how minor this product revision is, that's it.

Five minutes! Out of the whole speech probably.

...is my NUMBER KEYPAD?

Don't freak out. It's there. Look at the photo of the iMac with keyboard. you can clearly see where the arrow keys are (actually you can see the space above the arrow keys) to the left of the number pad.

Ha-ha, looks like the iMac G3 keyboard, without the number pad!

It is to bad... I would love to have a model like that but with all the keys, (I would be buy it right now if had all the key of a VT Terminal...) But I would get one if it had a PC Layout Keyset. But this model is not different then what is on my Macbook Pro right now... Thats no fun...

I haven't seen any good pictures of the iMac yet but I dont like the black list they have, why didnt they make it in only aluminum?

Heh, great typo from Engadget (which has since been corrected):

"That's an overview of iPhone '08."

If the keyboard and mouse are wireless why do they show wires in the slideshow?

Because I think, reading the Engadget updates, there's two versions. Wireless keyboard without numberpad and a wired version that (and the photo isn't good for this one) seems to come with a numberpad.

Nice, send-from-iphone feature for .Mac. Thats not too bad. I wish other services offered a feature like this since you cant upload anything from the iPhone.
