I’m sad Apple gave me nothing to buy

That’s not true. There is a pride watch band for sale.

But honestly, I really didn’t have much expectation for this event to have much hardware. I think we will have two hardware events come the fall, one for the Apple Watch , iPhone and iPad, *maybe* perhaps another one for the Mac in October/November.

Honestly and objectively, some of the stuff announced is pretty interesting from a dev perspective however in general, this was pretty bad.. was expecting a bit more. And I like how Craig says no we are not merging the systems but they are unifying some of the fundamentals so eventually they will.

It’s like desperation, NO we are not int grating iOS with Mac OS... and heres something coming next year, iOS apps on Mac OS...

So it’s warning people first before announcing what you literally said two seconds ago you weren’t going to do.

The Mac is dead.

How does this show the Mac is dead exactly

It’s not dead. It’s just that macOS has reached a mature state. There’s not much left to improve. It’s just a platform for using Adobe CS, a full Office suite and coding. Everything else can be done on phones.

Reading through this now:
  • AR - Nothing really new, works pretty much as Android has had for a while now, albeit using third party apps.
  • Photos - Search - same as I have been using with Google Photos for years now. Sharing suggestions - Google Photos has had this for a while. Proactive suggestions - again same as Google Photos
  • Siri - Ability to have any app expose shortcuts - Google Assistant, Amazon Assistant and Bixby all have this ability already. Create own shortcuts - Bixby already has this, Google Assitant and Amazon Assistant to a lesser degree.
  • iBooks/Apple Books - Nothing that Kindle and Audible don't already have a lock on
  • Apple News - Similar apps on Android, just nothing exciting.
  • Carplay supporting third party navigation - Android's equivalent has done this for a while now.
  • Do Not Disturb with no notifications - A feature that Android has had for years now.
  • App Limits - That is new, not sure how useful it is (especially since it can be bypassed), but it at least is unique.
  • Animoji - This has been on SnapChat for ages, it is just building it into the OS and some manufacturers like Samsung have done similar things
  • Group Face Time sounds an awful lot like Google Hangouts (or whatever it is called this week) to me.
  • Apple Watch - I can't really say one way or the other, I hate wearing stuff on my wrist.
  • Apple TV 4k - Dolby Atmos support is just catching up to Amazon and Roku
  • Desktop changing from morning to night - while cool, not really new, there have been plenty of options to do this and not really that useful.
  • Video Screen Capture - nice to have built in, but my guess is the third party apps that have done this will continue to be better.
  • Blocking data tracking - This should have been done from day one
So really, not much new or exciting here, Apple needs to get back to being the ones to shock the world with new ideas or at least improve on existing ones so dramatically that no one can believe they didn't think of the improvements first. I mean, after all the iPhone was not the world's first Smart Phone, Apple just made it better than everyone else, yes there were some bumps along the way, but they got there. The problem is once they got there, they stayed there while others came in and did it better and it is looking like this will be trend for Apple. At this rate, I can't see Apple having any more staying power than Windows and I don't think the outlook looks good for Windows at present.

Nice summary. For those of us that follow Cal Newport’s Deep Work/Life philosophy it’s a welcome product.

Another meh keynote. I was lmao when announcing the porting of iOS apps to the Mac yet they are "NOT" integrating iOS with Mac OS. Siri seems to be forever stuck 4 years behind.

They said they’re not merging the two operating systems. And technically they’re not.

I look at this more as an attempt to solve the problem of MacOS lagging years behind with features and apps already on iOS. Perhaps I'm being too optimistic though.

They had already made it clear that nothing revolutionary was going to be announced. They supposedly are going to focus on stability.

Well that’s that. First WWDC in a long time without new hardware.
