Grandfathered means that these people had their unlimited data plan back when ATT offered it. If those people never upgraded just bought their phones out right then they don't lose their plan so they are "grandfathered" into the new phone. Meaning the plan transfers over. Unfortunately no one can get an unlimited plan from them anymore.

You don't have to buy the phone outright - or at least haven't in the past. I've upgraded every year since they discontinued the unlimited plan (every other year I steal my husband's upgrade, he gets the year old phone) and have been able to carry it over to the new phone at the new 2 year contract price.

So, here is my question. I have a 6+ now on the Next plan. I have confirmed I qualify for an upgrade. So, do I use the Apple Store application on my phone or go though the AT&T website? I will be using Next for the 6S+
Which one would you guys vote for? Apple App or AT&T Website

I'll be using the App again if I can. Worse comes to worse I'll just buy my phone out-right and re-sell to someone locally.

Shocked that NextWorth is only giving $390 for a 128GB 6+

How do you get applecare for free? I want to get iphone 6s+ 64gb.

If you can afford it get the apple program and buy it out right. Depending on the model you get you might be able to factor in Apple care plus for free

I'm still on my grandfather AT&T unlimited plan.... I'm out of my contract and wondering if I should do the Next program, buy it outright, or a 2 year contract? Any suggestions?
Stay on unlimited unless you want to add a few more phones to your account, its not worth it. I'm grandfathered as well and always renew at the time of upgrade. Paying for normal contract and not updating is losing money because part of the phone cost is inside the plan "hidden".

That is stupid if you are staying on an unlimited plan, losing about $500 or MORE by buying it with the apple program and keeping his current unlimited plan.

Mine said the same thing two days ago. I paid next months bill early and took care of this month to qualify me for tonight.

How can you pay off just a month? Mine is asking me for the entire balance of the phone (20 months, so 9 more left)

I had Verizon back in 2010 when they got the iPhone 4. I was told if i upgraded i'd lose the unlimited plan. Must be different with different companies.

ugh I am being so indecisive on color and storage right now. I know for sure I am doing 6s Plus with either 64 or 128 (have a 128 Plus now) I just don't know what color I want. Silver is the only thing that is off the table at this point.

With Next 12, you only need to pay 12 months to qualify for an upgrade. 20 months is how long it takes to fully pay for the phone. I had, up till early this week, only completed 11 months of payments. I paid this months bill early and that paid the 12th month which qualified me for an upgrade.

I'm in the same boat... I guess I have 3 hours to make up my mind

2 yr contract, since you save $450 right away. You have to calculate how much money you will be paying over 24 month with each option. And what you are left with in your hand at the end. A 2 yr old iPhone still has a good residual value.

Exactly. But I'm planning on switching to TMobile early next year.... So I'm not sure if I want to buy it outright and be done with it, or pay the etf when I switch. Im going to try for the 2 year contract though.

Okay if I tell you, you have to get Space Gray how do you feel? (my friend did this to me earlier and it was funny it helped me figure out what colour I wanted..don't know if it works over the interwebz but lets try it :p)
