Well that experience was embarrassing enough to discourage me from using Apple Pay again. When I asked if i could pay for my Double Quarter Pounder using Apple Pay, the cashier had no idea what I was talking about and told me "We take cash or credit cards". Pretty fail by Apple to not train merchants to be ready for this.

McD's did you a huge favor. Do you know how many calories is in a double quarter pounder?

Step 1: Say, "I'm paying with credit card."

Step 2: Touch phone to NFC sensor.

Step 3: Touch finger to TouchID.

That's not too hard now, is it?

This is hilarious. You just point your phone up to the terminal. Wow! Apple needs to train it's users how to use their iPhones LMAO!!!

Lol:D
Not.
All they gotta do is select credit/debit on the payment option instead of cash and the customer can pay with their NFC enabled device.
I dont think that alone deserves a $7-8 raise.
I didn't even have to do that. LOL! :D I just pointed my phone at the big red NFC looking thing on the CC swipe machine and 1 second later I was done. LMAO!

Apple Pay did not work at McDonald's tonight

Went through the drive-thru at McDonald's tonight and could not get Apple Pay to work. They even had 2 manager's come over and try and still did not work. I even restarted my phone and still did not work. Tied up the drive-thru for 10 minutes, did not bring my wallet so they just gave me my food for free. Hopefully this is not a common occurrence.

Hopefully it is...Mickey D's food is crap! Eat something healthy!

I'd bring my wallet next time. No offense, just too early in the life of a new technology to depend on it.

I paid with Google wallet at at McDonald's today. Worked fine. My wife paid at panera yesterday with apple pay... Again worked fine.

Doesn't really seem that much more convenient... Though it may be more secure.

you drive around with no license (no wallet)?

Thanks for being the guy who holds up a drive thru line. I'm sure everyone was really impressed about your cool iphone though.

I bought stuff at Walgreens tonight.

I paid using Apple Pay

No fanfare, angel trumpets, Unicorn farts, or fairy dust. No blue shirts applauding.

Cashier asked if I used Apple Pay. I said yep. She said cool, she's had a bunch of people doing that. I smiled and wished her a pleasant evening.

I left and went about my business.

Simple. Easy. No drama.

I don't ask cashiers. If I see a NFC terminal I give it a shot. It has worked every time. If I don't see one (or if it's not working) I just pull out my debit card.

:apple:

This is not a problem with McDonald's OR Apple - it's a problem with you and your desire to proudly announce "I'm paying with Apple Pay". That is really unnecessary, and technically inaccurate. You are paying with a contactless credit card authorization, the mechanism for that payment just happens to be called Apple Pay.

If someone is "good with computers" that means they usually try and figure out the requirements and technical implementation through either study (like reading that McD's is a launch partner and how everyone else just stick their phone to the reader) or through experience (just poking the phone to the NFC reader at the time to pay for instance).

I've used Apple Pay at least 10 times, and I have not said the words "Apple Pay" once. Just go up there, order your crap, poke out your phone, and move on. Stop harassing cashiers because you don't know how to stick out your phone and your thumb at the appropriate time without a confusing "Apple announcement".

..Not always.

At Subway, for example, they process Google Wallet and Apple Pay transactions differently, and need to click whatever special thing they need to click for Google Wallet. Apple Pay is processed as Credit. That's fine, but Subway expects you to hand over your card (as the terminals are on their side of the counter, facing them), so unless you tell them that you want to pay with Apple Pay, you'll have a cashier waiting for you to hand over your card while you are holding your phone. Standoff!

Incidentally, you might need to say something like, "I'd like to pay with Apple Pay; just do it as credit." since not all the staff is familiar with it yet.

You failed. Why are you asking? See the NFC logo and tap your phone.

Driving without a license 'on your person' is not illegal. There is no law that states it has to be with you when you drive. You may be detained while your identity is verified, but that is the risk you accept when driving without it.

There's also the risk of getting cited. Sure, it's not the same as driving without a valid license but you can still get a ticket/fined.

Can we please, please stop the flood of Apple Pay threads. We get it Americans. McDonalds didn't accept Apple Pay at X location. Walmart didn't accept it for you. The cashier at that store you were at buying socks didn't get what Apple Pay is. She looked dumbfounded.

Jesus. First world problems. Who cares about Apple Pay, really. It's got a long way to go.
