Do they really need training though?? lol as long as YOU know how it works and you see the machine there do your thing. If it doesnt work then just use your card.

If someone who is really good with computers like myself was unable to pay with Apple Pay how do you suppose a regular iphone user will?? The point is that Apple really botched this rollout

You still dont get it.
Its up to the individual retailers to train their staff on how to use their credit card processing equipment.
Apple just made the option available to their devices.

I don't tell them I'm paying with my phone, I just do it.

As soon as they say the total just put your phone close to the credit card reader, it will light up, put your finger on the home button, done.

Gosh  maccyd's here in the UK doesn't even do that.

But the UK McDonald's do tend to be well experienced with NFC and with stick on contactless technology being applied to backs of phones e.g barclaycard pay tag then I suspect they will already be used to people holding phones up to their NFC readers.

So at least that's a small concelation for the lack of double cheeseburger.

The local McD drive thru had an NFC terminal next to the register with the NFC pad on top. It, however, was fixed in place and couldn't be moved to the window.

No. Just all kinds of NO. McDonald's agreed to be a partner, and did 0 training. It was not in Apples court to train the hundreds of thousands of McDonald's employees.

Well that experience was embarrassing enough to discourage me from using Apple Pay again. When I asked if i could pay for my Double Quarter Pounder using Apple Pay, the cashier had no idea what I was talking about and told me "We take cash or credit cards". Pretty fail by Apple to not train merchants to be ready for this.
Are you serious? You'll never use Apple Pay again because one cashier wasn't ready for it yet? One does not roll out a new payment system overnight. And McDonald's restaurants are franchises. It's the owners' responsibility to have the employees trained, not Apple's.

Oh my lord. You are being utterly ridiculous. Of course, it's not the first time that you have done so on this forum.

I only wish you found these types of posts as embarrassing as your "humiliation" at the hands of Mickey D, because trust me, you should.

Was at a McDonald's in Hong Kong this morning and their terminal saw my Apple Pay request, it came up on my screen, I used the thumbprint, and then it was rejected.

So, American credit cards can go into Apple Pay but they don't work in Hong Kong as yet.

You don't have to tell them. You just put your 6 up to the NfC reader and do your Apple pay. It's quick and simple.

You're right! They botched it so bad that I've only been able to use it twice at McDonald's, three times at CVS, and two times at Walgreens in 4 days. Every time without saying a word on how I am paying.

You make such a great point.

UPDATE: Went back to the McDonalds for dinner this evening. To my shock and dismay, the cashier (a different one) STILL had no idea what I meant when I said I was going to pay with Apple Pay :( As there was a line, I didn't force the issue and ended up just using my credit card, but it's just amazing that several days after its release, its impossible to use ApplePay even at supported merchants.

Hey, don't blame the OP. It's Apple's fail for not training him how to do it.

I have to say it does seem like there is a lot of confusion about how and when Apple Pay should work. Apple did not make it clear at all. Neither to customers or merchants...or else these misunderstandings wouldn't be happening.

...even telling people that anywhere you see the NFC logo you can pay with Apple Pay is not accurate, since merchants (RiteAid) can deny it as a form of payment if they so choose.

I'm thinking you should seek out healthier options once in a while.

I guess the whole "just tell them you are going to use credit with the NFC reader" went over your head, eh?

UPDATE: Went to CVS on Wednesday to buy an elbow support wrap. To my shock and dismay, the cashier had no idea what I meant when I said I was going to pay with Apple Pay :( As there was a line, I didn't force the issue and simply held my phone up to the PoS terminal, scanned my thumbprint and instantly paid using my credit card via Apple Pay. It's just amazing that several days after its release, it's possible to use Apple Pay even at unsupported merchants

Oh for the love of Pete.... I was JUST going to post something almost EXACTLY like this. You had to go and steal my fun :(

If this is not a troll thread:

Why are you asking permission to use Apple pay? Just do it.

Why in the hell would Apple train Mcd employees??? You act like Apple pay is a new tech is just NFC rebranded as Apple Pay for Apple what dont you get about this??? You make yourself look like a fool everywhere you eat kid.
No NFC no Apple Pay simple as that

This isn't a fail by Apple. It's a fail by McDonald's. It's the employer's responsibility to train their workers when they join a program such as Apple Pay.
