This is definitely, but jeezus christ, why isn't this Logic X yet? :(

As an owner of Logic Studio, I was able to get Logic Pro 9.1.6 via Software Update.

I am, however, not seeing the Main Stage 2.2 update via Software Update.

Does Apple really expect me to pay $30 to get the point update to Main Stage 2.2 (from 2.1.3)?

If so... Major :-(

Yay!

Thank god! perfect addition to the app store!

  • Cheaper
  • Don't have to keep .iso copies on my external
  • can trash all the DVD's now
  • no worries about backups
  • no more serials :)

Seriously, Logic 8 to 9 was a huge let down. Full screen was the best addition...
It needs a overhaul like they did with Final Cut (which I liked the change)

Just bought it... warning to people with slow connections: although the app is 'just' 413MB, once installed the app immediately tries to do a "basic content download" of 2.0GB(!) when you launch it (this can be put off until later, but just thought I'd say).

Just because final cut X was a disaster for many doesn't mean that this is. FcpX was an overhaul in a worst possible way (everything automated and preset without compatibility with other software) I love the new price and I am installing it now :)
Price is sure not a grade meter for professionalism!!

This is reaching new levels of absurdity.

The optional downloads for Logic 9 are- get this- 19GB.

NINETEEN GIGABYTES.

There was a really cool reason why Logic was distributed on 7 DVDs before. This would be that reason.

Does anyone else find this digital distribution to essentially be the epitome of "laziness" on Apple's end? By pushing their stuff out through the Mac App Store, they effectively force the end user to burn their own backups of the software they've paid for (because no sane mind would ever download 19GB of stuff then say "Hey, my disk drive will never crash on me!"). Oh, wait, your new MBA or Mini doesn't have an optical drive. You can either buy one or dump everything to a USB flash drive instead and pray that the flash drive doesn't go bad when you really need the software installation on it.

Nothing replaces the reliability of a good set of disks sitting on a shelf somewhere. Apple's discontinuing of everything they sell boxed software wise is just pure laziness on their half. It's not hip, it's not cool, and it's not futuristic.

why would you need back up of the software, if anything happens to your had drive, just download it again. actually safer than disks which can be lost or damaged

OMG it's too easy to use and not expensive, so it's not professional enough!
- professional troll would say

And yeah I am winking at you. ;)

Funny how you dismiss valid complaints about shortcomings in Final Cut Pro X, even recognized by Apple itself (who promised to do something about it by bringing major updates) as trolling.

Anytime you use an application for work, your priority list is a bit different. Shiny things aren't such a big deal. Speed/efficiency, stability (as in doesn't crash), lack of obscure bugs, and anything kind of project history so that you can easily revert changes if necessary without saving off multiple copies of a project. Those are the kinds of things that matter. It's a tool.

I think the video guys got pretty spooked not only by the issues with FCPX, but by Apple immediately cutting off licenses for the previous version when these guys obviously needed time to test the new thing and wait for a stable release.

Also look at what happened to Shake after Apple purchased it. No one even remembers it now. Motion is not the same kind of application.

So Apple is lazy because they won't do your due diligence for you, including having a backup solution like a time capsule? What kind of "pro" are you!

Well, unlike FCPX, Apple didn't release a ground-up brand-new LPX, they gave LP9 a price cut and dumped it in the App Store.

You can get 500 GB to 1 TB external drives for under $100, how is that not cheap for a little piece of mind? More than enough for all your Logic files with option downloads and a lot of space left over.

I'm sorry, but when 2 TB hard drives were 70$ 3 months ago and they are now over 175$, I hardly call that cheap.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

That took way to long for them to do.

what about soundtrack?

So I guess SoundTrack Pro is discontinued then? :(

I wish i could transfer my logic license so I had a downloadable copy. Disc install of Logic is such a (4 hour long) pain.

This is a flat-out amazing price for an amazing product. Logic Pro is really an incredible Professional DAW. Those of you who are complaining must be crazy.

Also, What's missing? only 19GB of content? My guess is thats not including the Apple Loop Library. Looks like only the Jam Pack Content. Wonder if the ALL is going to be a paid extra.

I wouldn't discount the idea of Logic X coming soon. This may be the their way of getting ready for it. Move it to the app store and lower the price then LX at a higher price?

Me neither. I do hope your right. Eyes will be on NAMM for sure.

Anybody know if there's a way to only download the extra content once, and transfer it via a portable hard drive to another of your macs if you install on more than once machine?

I like the price of Logic on the app store, but I don't fancy downloading 19 GB of jam packs more than once. I also have Logic Pro 8 which came with Jam Pack disks, I wonder if I can use any of them to shorten the download?

So what now to the other users who paid the $500? They have an app that is worth less than what they paid for? Thats not fair, hope they get a discount for X....

But you also had the software for longer and got more mileage than they most likely will. Do you think you are entitled to a new car just because you bought last year's model and they cut the prices to make room for upcoming models?

Ya what the hell is up with that??

I went to grab 4 more 2TB drives and they were all $180+ from every site I looked at.

I regret not grabbing them when they could be had for around $120.
