Hey guys,

Just beware that that Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam for the Pro Display XDR does not work with any Chrome driven apps or web apps. It does work with FaceTime and QuickTime apps but the second you want to use Chrome based conference services it will not pull a video signal (microphone does work). It fails to show video in Chrome web cam testing sites. Unfortunately the one service our company uses, LifeSize is based on Chrome for the UI so I'm SOL until I can figure out a work around. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Yes the standard 1080p units do work. I think it’s something to do with the 4K version not downsampling from the driver. I opened a ticket with Logitech.

Well it’s not a fix but I have information to add on this issue. The Logitech 4K Magnetic Webcam will not work on online webapps using Chrome as the engine (such as LifeSize). I figured out that a work around is to set the resolution to 480p, a far cry from 4K. Anything higher does not work with this webcam. This is also true of webcamtests.com.

Unfortunately, Logitech support has proven uninterested in accepting this as an issue. And Chrome support is a black hole to nowhere.

So I don’t know who this will help or reach but considering this is a 1% device designed only for a 1% monitor, I’m not too hopeful this will get fixed. So, buyer beware. If you need a supported webcam for your business teleconference solutions you might be better off with the tried and true C920.

I tried with the https://webcamtests.com/, and it turned out that the Logi 4K can work at 1080p with my computer.

My current set up is 30" ACD + '17 MBP 15" + Logi 4K. I'm waiting for the nano-texture Pro Display XDR to arrive. I found that the Logi 4K's magnet can work/mount on top of the 30" ACD, but the force is not as strong as the traditional iSight camera (also shown in the picture attached).

Can you tell me what OS you are using? Also that’s Chrome correct?

I can add that this webcam does work in Mojave. I'm nearly certain this is a driver issue in Catalina.

Can confirm that this camera works with Zoom in 4k or anything lower.

Also, seems to be working for me on the webcamtests website using Firefox. Using Chrome, I get stock on the same "Detecting max resolution" screen as above.

So you are correct about FireFox able to complete the test but if you look at the test results you will notice that it fails to achieve a resolution above 720p. So really it's the same problem but FireFox is smarter about not getting stuck unable to grab anything higher than 720p.

If you test this in Mojave you'll see that you are able to get the full 4K out of it in Chrome or any browser.

Anyone have any updates on this? I'm about to give up and just buy BRIOs and put them on the 4K Pro Magnetic Mount.

Well so just to post an update to this...I ordered and received a BRIO Logitech Webcam and swapped the magnetic base from the 4K Pro Magnetic mount and used the propriety short USB C to USB C cable that ships with the 4K Pro Magnetic webcam. The BRIO as advertised works with everything, Chrome web apps (passes the webcamtests.com test, LifeSize, and other business conferencing apps at full resolution.

So what does this mean? Until this get's fixed, if you care about having the best webcam experience on the Pro Display XDR, you'll need to buy the 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam just for it's magnetic mount and short XDR USB C cable and a 4K BRIO for it's Catalina compatible hardware...It'll cost you just over $400...yea...

Ridiculous Logitech, test your hardware before you sell it and Apple, hold your hardware partners to a higher standard when you have them make custom gear for your $5000 monitor.

I wonder if it has to do with the USB ports on the XDR only having USB 2.0 speeds when connected to all available graphic cards for the Mac Pro? I think USB 3.0 is required for 4k...?

Has anyone plugged the webcam into one of the USB C ports on the Mac Pro/whatever computer you are using instead and see if you get the same issues?

Yes tested that extensively. Has nothing to do with the display. Remember that it works perfectly on Mojave...but as soon as you go to Catalina it breaks.

The specs on Apple's website show this only works with MBP 2018+. Can you confirm that this works fully with the 2017?

Also does anyone have any updates on the Chrome compatibility?

I have just received the Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam in Canada.

Interesting fact, apart from the silver colour it would be a perfect match to the LG UltraFine 4K display. The magnet is strong enough to reach under the plastic casing of the display and is able to hold the camera in place. The short USB-C cable has just the right length to reach the ports in the back of the monitor.

Now for the bad news, I can confirm this camera does not work with Web applications under macOS Catalina 10.15.4.

FaceTime and Zoom work as intended. FaceTime displays an initial blurry overview but changes resolution once the call is started.

Chrome and Slack do not work. Slack has been known to be developing their Mac applications via a Web wrapper so the information correlates with your findings.

Total bummer...but thanks for sharing. Please share this with Apple Feedback.

I have just installed macOS Mojave 10.14.6 under VMware Fusion and can confirm the 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam works as intended.

@Nomad110 Any updates on the ticket you opened back in December 2019 over at Apple ?

Not a peep...they clearly don't care. Power in numbers fellas.

Here are the related error messages from the system logs:

CMIO_Unit_Convertor_VideoToolboxDecompressor.cpp:3374:decompressionOutputHandler [0x7fb83e031c00] DECODING ERROR -6680
CMIO_Unit_Convertor_VideoToolboxDecompressor.cpp:4033:decompressionOutputHandler [0x7fb83e031c00] RETURN ERROR -6680
CMIO_Unit_Convertor_VideoToolboxDecompressor.cpp:4236:doPixelTransfer ### Err -6680

It looks like the camera is timing out on a standard frame decompression call.

This is definitely on Logitech to fix, a firmware update might do the trick.

I went ahead and opened a ticket with Logitech.
