I have just received the Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam in Canada.

Interesting fact, apart from the silver colour it would be a perfect match to the LG UltraFine 4K display. The magnet is strong enough to reach under the plastic casing of the display and is able to hold the camera in place. The short USB-C cable has just the right length to reach the ports in the back of the monitor.

Now for the bad news, I can confirm this camera does not work with Web applications under macOS Catalina 10.15.4.

FaceTime and Zoom work as intended. FaceTime displays an initial blurry overview but changes resolution once the call is started.

Chrome and Slack do not work. Slack has been known to be developing their Mac applications via a Web wrapper so the information correlates with your findings.

Hey Mate! I also ordered the 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam for my UltraFine 4k, but I didn't find the magnet strong enough to hold the camera unless it's straight (i.e. no angle).
I peeled off the rubber feet of the camera to reveal the plastic and put a 3M sticker under so it's 100% strong and can hold the camera in any angle.

As far as everyone's problems with the camera and Chrome, I do not have any issues. Teams, Whereby... They all work both in Safari and Chrome for me.

If you're going to quote a browser, quote the Webapp you're using + the browser, because sometimes it's the webapp.

All of the web apps are using the same OS call which seems to be timing out unfortunately.

So why is it that in my case Teams on Chrome doesn't work, but Zoom and Whereby do?

Interesting, I will test it out and report back.

I have a feeling this depends on the codec being used (H.264 vs MJPEG).

The Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic webcam supports either raw (YUV422) or Motion JPEG formats. Logitech no longer offers onboard H.264 encoding and instead relies on the operating system or applications to perform the encoding as needed.

Here is the log output when FaceTime works as intended:
VDCAssistant [guid:0x2420000046d087f] ProgramSettings for format YUV422 - yuvs

Motion JPEG is currently broken in some applications and results in the stream decompression and image transformation errors I have listed earlier.

Here is the format description when Slack displays a blank stream:
VDCAssistant [guid:0x2420000046d087f] ProgramSettings for format Motion JPEG

Slack has been confirmed to be broken in Motion JPEG either within their Electron-based Mac application or via their web site under Chrome.

In contrast, the Zoom Mac application asks for YUV422 while the Zoom website requires Motion JPEG under Chrome. Both versions work as intended but it appears the website version displays a much lower resolution Motion JPEG stream instead of the higher resolution YUV422 stream of their native Mac application.

This would correlate with earlier posts and would mean that the Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic webcam is not able to display higher resolution Motion JPEG streams.

I have a ticket opened with Logitech, I suggest you do the same.

My support ticket is now being investigated by the Logitech engineering department.

I suggest you do the same, you can ask to have your ticket elevated to level 2 and you can use this thread as a reference.

I have initiated a return procedure at the Apple Store but will probably be keeping the camera so I can get to the bottom of this. The 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam is now on backorder and I am not too keen about paying twice the price for an LG UltraFine 5K Monitor (which is also on backorder).

Any updates on this? I am experiencing the same issues as everyone else. I logged a support ticket with Logitech but have yet to hear back from them.

Logitech support has been slow to respond with answers averaging between 24 and 48 hours.

I did ask for an update last week and have been answered that engineering was still looking into the issue.

We should all be filing tickets with Logitech support if this can help prioritize the issue and speed up the process.

I've also filed a ticket with Logitech about it; I got an acknowledgement that there's an issue with Chrome and the suggestion to use Safari in the meantime.

I've replied asking for more info (is there a chromium bug opened, or do they suspect a 4k pro firmware issue, etc.)...

@droptical This is great news, let's hope they are able to rectify the issue in firmware or just we might have to wait even longer while all of the Chromium-based applications and frameworks update their code base upstream.

Unfortunately many web applications no longer support videoconferencing under Safari. This is the case for Slack.

For your information the Slack "native" Mac application has been developed using the Chromium-based Electron framework.

Hi there - one question about the LG UltraFine 4K and the Logitech camera: is there any overhang on the back of the monitor? From the online measurements and looking at my display, it seems like it would hang slightly over the back of the monitor. Thanks

@J-Tech These are the measurements for the actual camera, the magnetic stand is just the right size for the monitor bezel.

Here are some pictures of the end result.

Good point about the camera measurements. Thanks for sharing those pictures - really helpful! Looks like a good option for the monitor - I’ll have to look into buying one...

0 overhang as the picture shows!
Make sure to get 3M transparent sticky bands to tape the bottom of the camera so that you can move the camera freely without it falling.

I opened an issue with Slack. They said the camera is not supported by apps that use webRTC. So it will not work with Slack and Google Hangouts (Chrome).

Hi @PAC_ , just wondering if you had any updates? Having the same problem here, and my support ticket with Logitech has not brought me anywhere yet.

@wjdrijfhout Unfortunately not. As per the Slack feedback @appkingpin received, this is starting to feel like there might be a bigger issue at play with either Chromium or WebRTC.

Keep pushing forward and asking to have your tickets elevated.
