Logitech's New MX Master 4 Mouse Features Haptic Feedback

Just placed my order directly from Logitech. It was supposed to arrive in about 8 days, but for whatever reason, they immediately cancelled the order. After nearly an hour with support (online) trying to figure out why, they offered a solution to re-order it that matched exactly how I placed the order to begin with, so I said "thanks, but no thanks."

BestBuy had no problem with my order and it says it'll be delivered tomorrow.

I used a MX Master 3 for several years and swore by it, until I tried an Anywhere 3S. Now I can't go back - the size and weight are too much. But if you have a large hand and don't mind the extra weight, then this may be the perfect upgrade.

Every MX master has crap the bed for me since the first one, the latest that died was the 3S. Not only did the 3 died on me but the 3S also died on me. But now I'm clicking buy again... I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment, but there are very few mice that has horizontal scroll which makes photo editing a breeze.

 
The MX series are my favorite Blender and CAD mice but Haptic Touch does nothing. Our eyes can already see what we click on. We can already hear the little microswitches clicking. We didn’t have a problem that needs fixing.

Our REAL issue is that we have to install Logitech software because Apple refuses to support backwards and forward buttons natively in Safari and the Finder.

my recollection is that there is an offline version of the Logitech Options app that makes the software a bit less odious, though it's been probably a year since I messed around with it. Can someone let me know if I'm going nuts here?

Anyway, if my MX 3 ever dies I might grab one of these, but I'm also Old and now the MX Vertical appeals to me more.
 
If only Logitech mice didn't rely on always-on software that tends to break often and just doesn't work reliably.

Really sad considering a decade ago it was standard practice to actually store settings directly on the mouse so you didn't even need to run the software except to change settings. Gotta collect that usage data, though!

This mouse is the only reason I don’t use the MacBook’s fantastic trackpad. I’ve owned every generation since the MX Revolution, and all of them were and still are fantastic.

Maybe it’s just nostalgia, but I still think the MX Revolution was the greatest of all.

The MX4 was an instant buy for me and should be delivered tomorrow. It’s been about six years since they released a proper replacement, as I don’t count the 3S as one. I’ve been using my MX3 for five years and, apart from the soft-touch rubber wearing out (though it doesn’t look too bad considering five years of heavy use), the buttons are still as good as day one.

I’ve bought every generation since the Revolution, and with each one the left/right buttons usually failed after a year or so, resulting in a double-click instead of a single click—which is really annoying. But every time that happened, Logitech support, once they verified my purchase, always asked me to physically destroy the mouse and send them photo evidence, then they always sent me a new retail replacement at no cost to me, not even a temporary hold on my card which is annoying with Apple. Their service was insanely good—though I’m not sure how it is these days.

I’m honestly surprised the MX3 has lasted as long as it has without any issues. Hopefully the MX4 will hold up just as well, especially considering how expensive it is for a mouse
 
Love the MX4 so far. Moving to a harder plastic instead of that soft rubber should be better for longevity, plus easier to keep clean. The left and right buttons are so quiet compared to the MX3; these new buttons are almost silent.

Haptic feedback is pretty nice but will take a little getting used to. Overall, it's a nice improvement over the MX3; just hope I can get a few years out of it without issues.

The Magic Mouse may not have changed much in years, but for someone who uses a mouse mostly with my left hand and occasionally switching between hands, it is the perfect mouse.
 
I'm also enjoying the MX4 after a full day of use. I like the texture on the hard plastic areas, and wish they would have just gotten rid of the rubber finish all together (it's still on the thumb-wrest area where the Haptic Button is and on the right side).

The haptic feedback works really well, though I found turning it all the way to the lowest setting suits me best. It's pretty powerful, so it doesn't take much for you to notice the feedback.

The extra thumb button is a nice addition. I re-configured it to use the Actions Ring and the Haptic Feedback button to switch macOS Spaces. But honestly, the Action Ring itself is just too small on screen to be useful for me. I'll probably switch all the Actions to be app launchers where I can easily recognize the icons at any size.

Mousing and scrolling is smooth, and I feel like it's more refined than the MX3 is (I have both running side-by-side on my Mac now for comparison). The side scrolling wheels stick out on the MX4 as opposed to being sunk-in to the side of the MX3 mouse... it makes for easier and more precise use.

And finally, I didn't look at the specs, but the MX4 is definitely lighter than the MX3. I don't know if its the actual weight, or if the new shape just distributes the weight better, but I find it quite noticeable.

I got the PC Black version which included the LogiBolt receiver, not the Graphite colored Mac version.

That's the one advantage the Apple mouse has over virtually every other mouse on the market. I'm glad you like it, because I know your options for a left-handed mouse are quite limited.
 
Grabbed an MX4 for work after seeing this post and I think my claw movement/grip isn't suited to this sort of mouse. I don't tend to move my arm but rather use my wrist. The mouse seems quite small in my hands also. I like the features and the haptics are nice. The quiet clicks are a welcome addition!

Wow. Most people say the MX mice are too big and clunky. The Apple mouse must feel absolutely tiny to you then?

Maybe something like a Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball would be a better fit for you? I used one many years ago (same basic model, but back then there was no Bluetooth, so it was wired) and loved it.

The hard plastic vs soft rubber is a big selling point. There is something about the acidity of my skin that just chews through a lot of soft-touch plastics, be it on mice, game controllers, etc, so this is good news for me. And yes, I wash my hands regularly and am generally not a gross person.

Unfortunately the soft rubber is still on the left side thumb rest button area and on the right side. They say they've improved it, but only time will tell.

:sigh: as a person who mouses (yes, using this as a verb, hahaha) left-handed, even though I'm actually right-handed, I for sure am not jealous. Really, truly. Not jealous.

The Magic Mouse is fine as I use my fingers/wrist to move the mouse instead of the arm. Feel like the MX Master 4 wants you to use the elbow down unlike the Magic Mouse which was wrist down. I usually find ergonomic mice want this and it's usually old behaviours that I need to stop.
 
Anyone here have or seen a picture with both the Pale Grey and White Silver side by side? Every picture on the internet I've run across seems to point out that they're identical, because if they are I don't see the point in getting the MacOS version.

How do the resident owners of this mouse feel about it now, assuming you're using all the suggested apps that adjust its functionality?

It's a good upgrade, overall. The Action Ring is nice, otherwise I would have got some 3rd party alternative instead, which wouldn't be as functional.

The haptic needs more software support.
The scrolling needs more resistance.
