That's what surprised me most. A lack of analog sticks means it's almost DOA.

You'd think that by now game controllers would have standardised their main buttons.

This is one of the 3 types of controllers that Apple has designed in their controller standard, this includes exactly one of the sets of buttons in the standard, the other physically connected controller is the one that MOGA released yesterday which includes 2 joysticks, both are allowed, both are able to be certified as part of the MFi standard. Personally, I prefer the one with the dual joysticks, hopefully Logitech will soon release that version of the controller too.

Lightning connection is a MUCH better idea, did you read the article, it comes with a battery too - so you can game for much longer. A bluetooth controller is a terrible idea battery wise.

Let's see...

This controller only works for the iPhone 5/5S and the latest iPod Touch since it's form fitted. The Phonejoy works with all iPhones, iPods and iPads running iOS 7. Even future models.

The Phonejoy works both as a standalone controller and as a wraparound controller.

If you're worried about the battery life, you can use a battery case on your iPhone (or use the charging adapter). This controller is unusable with anything other than a naked iPhone.

I do understand why a battery in a controller is great, but to call it "a much better idea" is pretty strange in my opinion... 3-1 to Phonejoy vs. this one.

Why can't anyone design a controller that overlaps the black bars on the top and bottom of the iPhone? You could just leave a hole for the home button, and it would look a lot less awkward.

Give it time, this is only the 2nd official MFi controller released, this is just getting started, probably most are going to be duds but I'm waiting for that one that stands out and gets things right. It'll happen.

After the Moga one people were OMG, YAY GAMING IS GOING TO CHANGE! No, this still isn't going to change gaming. The fact that Logitech managed to come out with a worse controller for the same price is good stuff. Another turd that won't sell. Why make something as beautiful as the iPhone look like a children's toy.

Exactly right and I hope iOS gaming goes NO WHERE because Apple is too stupid to make one themselves. I mean seriously? Who in the f$&@ doesn't know that every third party controller ever made in the universe is the worst piece of garbage known to man? Every time I see one I cringe, like the ones for the xbox etc. with their two billion buttons which is the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen, and the awful design and feel. Apple get a clue and make your one controller with cues from xbox one and ps4 controllers which I've held and seen both of, and they are absolutely hands down the best gaming controllers ever built.

The way I see it this is going to flop along with any other accessory you need to play games on the iphone.

The reason people are gaming on the iphone is not because of it's amazing graphics or immersive experience, it comes down to one thing, availability.

You go to work on a bus, available, you are sat waiting for someone, available, you are on the toilet.... available.

You add a bulky accessory that you need to lug around, and it's not going to work. I am surprised at logitech, they surely recognise that this is where phone gaming has the advantage, and yet they are bringing out a product that completely destroys that.

Lol you know what's hilarious? iOS devices strictly getting third party pathetic controllers is like if the xbox one and ps4 didn't come with controllers and Microsoft and Sony didn't make them and your only option were third party garbage controllers, seriously can you imagine how many fewer would sell? Apple needs to realize how embarrassing it is to allow their devices to even be attached to one of these third party garbage controllers.

Now all we need is an official app from Nintendo allowing us to play all the classic NES/SNES games. Boy, would that be great. It's not going to happen, but man... what a day that would be.

Of course you had to switch the buttons back to normal, also.

I hate Logitech they are a terrible company , I've had many of their products and they've all been awful. I hope all of these third party controllers fail and their respective companies fail/evaporate with them.

Well, there we have it, a definitive conclusion, and anyone that ends up buying one of these or one of the many future ones that are certified Apple MFi controllers will have bought the "worst pieces of garbage known to man" (hyperbole much?), perhaps purchasers should demand the sales clerk stamp "M-O-R-O-N" across their foreheads before leaving the store? You seriously wish for iOS gaming to go nowhere?

For the rest of us that actually enjoy iOS gaming and are looking forward to these controllers, this is exciting, but to admit that is to admit my idiocy in your view, but I don't care. I've been following this since Apple announced their MFi programme for controllers, in case you want to do any trolling around this forum and the rest of the internet, perhaps go to the Apple developer site that documents the standard (they have pictures of the three "POS" controllers!): here.

Logitech Fail

Why do they make you recharge the device with a micro-USB cord? You know the thing is made for the iPhone right?....WHY NOT RECHARGE WITH LIGHTNING CONNECTOR SO WE DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT CORDS LAYING AROUND!

If the controller was ~$50 this would be excusable but for $99 they need to step it up.

Your attitude is quite clear, you've expressed it well, and enhanced it with hyperbole.

I'm looking for a Bluetooth Controller for the ipad, with sticks. Games like the one's mentioned are unplayable by me with virtual controls.

Hey if you want to go pay $99.99 for these, go right ahead, hahah (there should be plenty). However I think you may be right about the moron stamp at that price point. I'll buy the xbox one or ps4 for $60.00 and press the buttons imagining I'm playing an iOS game and have a far more entertaining experience.

Won't work properly with the flagship iPhone (Touch ID ...) so probably no one will ever release such a thing.

It's not hyperbole. They aren't exaggerated and they are definitely meant to be taken seriously. It's called being adamant about something. Trust me I want great iOS gaming with AAA titles like you do, but I feel like Apple slapped us in the face by not making their own because I while heartedly feel iOS gaming will be just as awful as it was, and it will go no where. I'd love to see capcom update their RE4 iOS game with enhanced graphics and the ability to use an a Apple designed controller, but clearly that isn't going to happen. Capcom hasn't updated that game in ages, and I am about 99% sure these won't entice them to do so. I swear everything is there for amazing iOS gaming but Apple is just holding it back tremendously.

There are two other types of controllers the MFi standard allows, one includes dual joysticks (like the one MOGA just released) and the other controller is a physically unconnected controller, and would then work for any iOS device (rather than the controller being specific for iPhone or iPad). Have a look at this page which describes the standard, the first page Apple includes some drawings of sample controllers (for the 3 types): here.

There's gotta be an API these games can use to get rid of on screen controls if a 3rd party controller is detected. That's the only thing stopping me from getting one.

I'm waiting for the complaints on how much RAM it has or doesn't have :D.

It looks like a good device but I'm sure people will find something to complain about.

Consoles are different because they already have good controllers, the main reason people buy third party controllers is because they are cheaper, which of course generally means they are worse than the official ones.

It probably won't be too long before someone comes along with a decent controller as there is a lot of money to be made. It is just a pity we probably won't see one until 2014.

If you care about those features that is. Id rather something that fits and looks good and I don't care about anything other than the iPhone 5S so, and I've never used any of my iPhones since the day the first came out in 2007 as anything other than "naked".

Having said that, I won't be buying this or any other game controller as I don't play games on my iOS devices. But a specified device is better than a jack of all trades any day. But you buy whichever you want, I couldn't care less really.
