When I force quit the process, within half a second it is running again, using 0.9% of my CPU.....
Delete any appearance of it from the following locations:
  • System Preferences > Users & Groups > yourusername > Login Items (SL and older: System Preferences > Accounts > yourusername > Login Items)
  • In Finder, click Go > Go to Folder > /Library/LaunchAgents
  • In Finder, click Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/LaunchAgents
  • In Finder, click Go > Go to Folder > /Library/StartupItems
Then restart your Mac and proceed with the instructions.

I have the same issue above where the process starts up again immediately, and I looked in the places above and there is nothing that says LogMeIn, and I don't actually have a folder called "StartUpItems" in my Library. I also tried to follow the steps from your previous post, however got hung up because the process wouldn't stop even after force quitting several times.

I also checked the places that seemed to work for the original poster, but I do not have anything of logmein in my application support folder.

Any other ideas?

Post a screen shot of your Finder window, showing the contents of the /Library folder.

Also, re-read post #6. Complete steps 1-7 of those instructions, then take a screen shot of your Finder window and post it.

I did try this...again. However the logmein menubar process from step #1 will not force quit. It remains in the list when I tried to do that, so I couldn't get passed that step.

I just had success by reinstalling the app from this link:
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/25130/logmein

And then opening LogMeIn, clicking "Uninstall" from the About tab. The icon in the menu bar then disappeared. I then went further and searched for "logmein" in Spotlight, and found 4 files. 3 were plug ins for browsers and 1 was a txt file, I believe. Anyway, I then trashed all of those to make sure all was gone.

Thanks for replying so quickly though. :)

That's why I recommended posting a screen shot of your Library folder, but it doesn't matter now. Glad you got it sorted out.

Now that I didn't have it running in my Activity Monitor, I went through steps 2-7 in the post above, and found several more files with the name "logmein" hiding in various folders. :)

I deleted those as well to make sure it doesn't rise from the dead somehow.

Thanks again.

That's why I recommend using that method. Even after running an app's uninstaller, there are typically files left behind.

Thanks Man I tried everything that was posted on this thread and this is the only thing that got rid of the logmein icon.

I then deleted all the files that had to do with Logmein in finder.

Thank you guys!

I had this problem as well, whats up with that app? Anyways thanks for this, was a huge help.

Can't get rid of LogMeIn

Re-read post #6. It will absolutely get rid of it if you follow the instructions exactly. Complete steps 1-7 of those instructions, then take a screen shot of your Finder window and post it.

I'm going to try your step-by-step, but on step 1 I have a problem: I can't kill either LogMeIn (root) or LogMeIn Menubar (current user account). That latter one might be getting killed and immediately re-spawned by the first one, it's hard to tell.

I've enabled the root user, and when trying to Force Quit or Quit LogMeIn in Activity Monitor, no results.

For now, I'm going to try the rest of the steps anyway, I can't find any more logmein files and for possibly related reasons, Spotlight is re-indexing with a couple of days to go, so no love from it in finding files.

Any safe sudo commands that might do the job on the active processes? I only copy and paste ones I find on reputable sites, I know that I don't know enough not to wreck something if I start to improvise with that.

Thanks!

Now restart your Mac and the process shouldn't be running. You should now be able to delete it.

This worked!

after having removed LogMein manually I was left with the pesky icon on the menu bar - I followed the instructions posted here but there was nothing in Library/Application Support pertaining to LogMein and however I searched for it I could find nothing although I could still see the offending article in Activity Monitor. I re installed LogMein and following the instructions here was able to remove the little bugger
*sigh of relief

Just a couple of notes about the removal instructions referenced above, as they apply to the sticky LogMeIn problem. (Open those instructions and read them before reading these notes, I wrote the notes assuming you had, and can't guarantee they'll make sense otherwise):

  1. In step 1, you may be immediately frustrated by the fact that the poster of the instructions is so insistent that you follow directions *exactly*, but you can't, because there are two LogMeIn processes that you can't kill in Activity monitor. Or rather, you can kill them, but they instantly re-appear. Don't worry, the removal instructions will still work, just ignore these two zombie processes. (Sorry I already completed my removal, and didn't write down the names of the two unkillable processes, but if you see two in Activity Monitor and they just won't stay dead, that's probably them. One of them had "menu" in it's name.)
  2. When you get to the part where you send all the files your search turned up to the trash, you will get messages about not being able to trash com.logmein.instanceguard.xxxx, presumably because those zombie processes are still running. (My xxxx was LMIGUI.501, but I don't know that it will be the same for yours.) For me, the com.logmein.instanceguard.xxxx file actually did go into the trash despite that warning, but couldn't be deleted from the trash because of the active processes.
  3. Just empty the trash to delete the rest of the logmein files (after you test out that nothing goes awry, per the original instructions), and reboot.
  4. Now those orphaned processes lack the files that launched them in the first place, and LogMeIn will finally be out of your menu and your hair. You can then empty the trash to get rid of the com.logmein.instanceguard.xxxx file too.

It's a mystery why the LogMeIn people let this continue to be a problem. It used to be a rock-solid product that I relied on, but it seems like their quality control may be slipping a bit. (I don't think this is a bug; just seems like the code architecture is suspect.) I subscribed to join.me, which seemed like a bargain since I trusted them as a company, but it's been so unreliable I've abandoned it. Ah well, all good things end eventually.

Read post #38, two posts before yours.

Thank you

Dude, I shared your frustration and fixed this problem thanks to your post. good one.

SUCCESS!!!!

I'm going to shout this out to the world now, there are plenty of people out there with this problem, and not even LogMeIn support know how to deal with this!

SO, what did I do? I went in to TroyJam's link and started reading around and began going through the tutorial that would supposedly "remove" the damn icon from the tray.

I entered the command /Library/Application Support/LogMeIn/bin/LogMeInGUI.app/Contents/Resources in Finder, thinking it would get nowhere, since I had already deleted everything LogMeIn related from the computer!

For my surprise, there was still a folder under /Library/Application Support/LogMeIn.

Well, in this folder, there was a command prompt uninstaller, different from the pretty and user friendly uninstaller they provide.

So I clicked on it, entered my system password on the command line when asked for and... VOILÀ!!! It ran like a chicken from my taskbar!

FINALLY!!!

Thank you all guys for your time and help!!

God bless you and your brains! =D

How to uninstall everything from LogMeIn

I deleted LogMeIn but it still appeared in my bar so,I had to do the most complicated way to uninstall LogMeIn.
First you have to delete everything you can find with the name LogMeIn or LMI in it. Then locate uninstaller.sh, if you can't find it, this is what is says:

"/Library/Application Support/LogMeIn/bin/LogMeIn.app/Contents/Resources/logmeinserverctl" stop
launchctl stop /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.logmein.logmeinserver.plist
launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.logmein.logmeinserver.plist
launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.logmein.raupdate.plist # this should not run
launchctl unload /Library/LaunchAgents/com.logmein.LMILaunchAgentFixer.plist
launchctl unload /Library/LaunchAgents/com.logmein.logmeingui.plist
launchctl unload /Library/LaunchAgents/com.logmein.logmeinguiagent.plist

Looks complicated huh?
The first way is to copy the whole lot and paste it in terminal, if it does not work do the second way.

SECOND WAY:
Go on a new finder window and you have to press command+shift+g.
And type one of the commands above that start with /, and delete the file. Keep doing it with all the commands.
For example, type /Library/LaunchAgents/com.logmein.LMILaunchAgentFixer.plist
and delete it.
When you deleted every single thing, go to activity monitor and quit the processes that say LMI and LogMeIn
Hope it works, it worked for me :p

None of that is necessary. Just follow the instructions in post #6 of this thread. That will completely remove any app.

Hello!

I don't know if this answer comes too late but the instructions worked at least for me. After you have deleted all the LogMeIn files and moved them to trash, you have to empty the trash. BUT one of the files couldn't be deleted permanently, so then I went to the Activity Monitor and quitted the process of the file and FASTLY went to the trash and deleted the file permanently. But you have to be fast, because the LogMeIn icon appears again even if you have quitted its process! Hope it works for you!!!! :) :)

And here are the instructions:
To manually remove an application and all associated files:
Launch Activity Monitor and change "My Processes" at the top to "All Processes", then make sure the app you want to remove is not running. If it is, quit the process before proceeding.

Launch Finder (see image below) and search your entire hard drive for the app name (hopefully unique, such as Skype)

In Finder, select View > "as List", if you haven't already done so. Do not use "as Icons" for this procedure.

You can narrow the search to specific folders or search your whole Mac, which is preferred

In Snow Leopard and earlier, click "File Name" instead of "Contents" for better results.
In Lion and later, click the + button below the search term, then select "Name" "Contains" and enter the app name. (see image)

Click the + button below the search term to add criteria, then click the search criteria drop-down and select "Other...", then "System files"

Click the "aren't included" and change to "are included"

Sort by name, kind, date, etc. to identify components of the app, such as folders, .plist files, cache files. etc.

Delete all files and folders related to the app.

Don't empty your Trash until you've determined that everything is working OK, in case you need to restore something you deleted by accident.

A reboot might be necessary to completely remove some apps.

Simple Delete of LogMeIn from a Mac OS X

If you have tried to delete LogMeIn and it persists in opening up a dialog window every time you reboot and you cannot find thru any searches, LogMeIn files, try the following:

Go to Finder.

Go to Go in the task bar.

Look for "Go To Folder" & Select it.

In the Dialog window type in: /private/var/tmp

When the window opens, go to the temp folder, Logmein will be in that folder. Drag it to the Trash and then empty.

Reboot your Mac.

I did the manual uninstall tutorial as provided, and it did remove logmein from the bar. However, it caused System Preferences to tank whenever I tried selecting a category. Upon restart, my MacBook no longer registers input from my keyboard and only moving on the trackpad, no clicking. And the sound icon also stays gray, which was why I wanted to remove the app in the first place, since it was messing with my audio. I would surely appreciate some help.

I didn't want LogMeIn, but the AT&T ConnecTech service wanted me to install it (and charged me for their service). After proving to them that they didn't need to do any of that, I wanted to get rid of the program. LogMeIn was starting up every time I started my computer. I'm very angry with AT&T.

There is no LogMeIn application in the Applications folder. There is no listing for it in the System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Items. It doesn't show up in Spotlight. There is no uninstaller. The thing is practically invisible. There is no easy way to uninstall it.

I finally found the program files in /private/var/tmp. I had to use the Terminal application to find it and to get rid of it. After I got rid of the folder, the thing apparently disappeared. I am still suspicious. Spyware makes me nervous.

I will be expecting a refund from AT&T.
