I don't actively use it. Only when I turn the computer on and don't bother to get the lights on, it comes on and shows me the way. :D

I never realized how much I depended on being able to see my keys in the dark until last night. I had to work on my husband's WindowsXP machine, and it was very frustrating in the dark. I ended up having to turn on a lamp, and I much prefer the dark.

I have a similar story. Last night I was playing a game on my PC, and I kept missing the A key and hitting caplocks instead. My next upgrade is going to be a keyboard with a backlight... LOL!

Yea, I use it...

....when I wake up in the middle of night and can't get back to sleep, I don't want to turn on any lights, and turn the screen down really low (damn this screen is BRIGHT) and the backlit keyboard is WONDERFUL

Even in a pitch dark room, all the keys are visible because of the brightness coming off the screen.

I use my laptop in the bedroom with my wife sleeping. I use Nocturne so the screen brightness doesn't keep her up. In that case, there is barely any brightness illuminating the keys.

I never used it in the past, but being that the new macbook has a white light... I use it even if it's day time. I love it!

It was a gimmick with my PB (the first to offer it). The light was so dim it blended in with the keys & you couldn't see the letters. My first MBP was a little better but only used it when in a really dark room. With my new MBP it's awesome. Great contrast with the key color and the illumination. I even use it in lit room. Very worthwhile feature now.

I honestly thought no one used them. I guess they would look better on the newer MBPs but IMO it looks cheap on the silver keyed MBPs. I turned off the auto dimming as well cause i love full brightness in most conditions. Guess i just don't like the bling factors of these bad boys

back light

i never use it even when typing in a dark room. it could be that i dont need to even look at the keyboard ever.

I use it at night when we have the lights off and just watching TV and playing on line. I love it, and I can't have a laptop now w/o it.

I keep mine on but don't really use them since i touch type. They're just cool though, i think that's what it's worth:cool:

LOL, I cut with Final Cut and have used much of my pro apps while in a dimly lit or dark room, so I don't just type Word documents and surf the web with my MacBook Pro.

Since I use the power, and use the shortcuts for the apps that I can't just feel for, I use the backlit keyboard A LOT.

It's not a novelty at all, sadly, anyone that thinks so may not be using their book to the fullest.

couldn't live without it anymore.
external keyboards should get it also.

There are a few gaming keyboards that do. I have only seen them online though.

I leave mine on all the time as well. I think it looks better on the black keys than on my MBP.

I would have bought the 2.0 if it had the back lit keys. :apple:

I found it was kind of a waste of time on the old keyboards, but with the new black keyboards, it is much harder to see the keys at night so the backlight is very helpful.

Sometimes I surf/work/read in bed at night on the MBP and the backlight allows me to do it without having a light on, which makes my wife happy. I am a good touch typist but there are still other buttons on there that the backlight helps with.
