Sup is giving me his contact info and asked that I call back on Monday. He stated Apple knows this is a "huge problem" and that their engineers are working around the clock 24/7 to find a fix. They think it's software related but I'm not sure how the software recognizes when my fingers are touching the antenna. ;) The sup had me disconnect the 3G and make a call. My call did not drop using the older technology. Anyway everyone who is having a problem should call.

I somewhat agree with the OP.

I have the 3g and this is not as noticeable. The problem is completely different though between other phones and the IP4. In the case of the IP4, we are extending the length of the antenna. In other phones, we are partially diluting the signal.

The lengthening of the antenna is a worse problem.

I have the IP4. I like it and would not give it back because of this issue. I think it's an amazing little gadget. However, it is still a design flaw.

I find it odd that Apple's response is to put a case on it after Steve Jobs talked about it's beauty ("like an old Leica camera"). And those 'bumpers' are ugly IMHO. But if that's the solution to a design flaw, then they should throw in one of those $30 rubber bands for free.

If you don't want any problems with your phone, then stop buying the first batch of them. You are pretty much just a guinea pig, and you are helping Apple catch any potential problems. Suck it up and either wait til they fix it, or stick with your old phone til they hammer out the problems.

I reproduced this on the 3G and 3G S, holding both "how I wanted" which at the time was with two hands. ;-). Couldn't get the signal to drop on them otherwise.

Just chillax. Either there's a class action suit, a recall, or free bumpers in our future.

I can assure you apple knows it's an issue

I called apple tech support this morning to mention the reception issue and they confirmed they know it's an issue and the engineers are working on it. They even sent me a free bumper

Same here

How did you guys get the new bumper, I was on the phone with apple, they event let me talk to a "senior advisor" and I still wasnt given a bumper...

I got one from in-store. You raise hell, people start leaving because they see that this is a real issue. I showed videos to customers who asked me to see what's going on. They had to do something. People were leaving and not buying. Lol. Like I said...I am an @$$. :)

I just find this "problem" with the iPhone 4 funny.

I have had 2 iPhone 3G and 2 iPhone 3GS (Me and the Wife)

ALL of them have had this issue. Not one, not two, not three, but ALL.

You can watch it on the table be at 5 bars of 3G.

As soon as I pick them up, the bars go down.

Not sure what the problem is, but there is no way someone is going to convince me this is only an issue with the iPhone 4.

I have to disagree with you:

My husband and I both upgraded from the 3G to the 4, and we are both experiencing the antenna issue; however, my signal goes down a small amount but I am still able to use my phone while my husband's phone goes to "no service" and he can't do anything at all. This has happened on multiple occasions since we received our phones Wednesday, and it has occurred in multiple locations. My husband did not have a case on his 3G and had upgraded it to iOS4 without experiencing this issue. My 3G also never had this issue, but I always used a case anyway. As a side note, we both went out to buy cases last night, and they have NOT helped much. The signal still goes down, but it seems to take longer.

Now you are sounding like a BSer. Nobody is walking into a store and leaving without an iPhone. At a minimum, it would be put up on ebay for a profit.

The original point was not bad. But you ruin it with poor embelishments.

ya its bs. he said he was at work and somehow left midday to get bumpers? no way

No one is walking into a store and walking without an iPhone...LMAO. Okay :) I am a BSer. I wanted to seem cool so I lied about getting a free bumper. Hahaha. I am gonna add BS'er to my list. But guess who has a bumper? :D Apparently they are not giving free bumpers from their customer service site so I guess others are BS'ing as well?

Who said I was at work and left to get bumpers? Who said i even did this today? How do you know what I even do? Are you sure I have to be in an office for my work? Lol. :) Sorry to not tell you what I do, but assuming someone would lie about getting a $30 bumper for free is just...another one of those things you have to LOL at. BUT if it makes you feel better...I didn't get a bumper? I don't even own a iPhone? In fact...I never even seen an Apple store! LOL :D

Edit: It would be put up on ebay for profit...Not true. People would rather wait until a "fixed" version comes out. You can't upgrade again for however long if you get the phone now and sell it right away. :) I don't think everyone goes into an Apple store to buy one at non-contract price either. So they see a phone with problems, someone complaining about the phone etc. I can guarantee you if you did the same, you would get the same results if you do it right :D Gonna go out soon so people flame some more before i leave and get drunk! It's Friday night!! :D

Oh yeah, if I decide to go back to the Apple store for my 3rd return tomorrow, I will record it :D I promise people will leave without the phone :)

Bump. This is still not a dead topic and starting a new thread would cause people to respond with "OMG Search" :)

Well I still haven't been able to get another replacement since they are always outta stock. But I will keep trying just to piss people off :)

Anyone notice Apple's stock dropped from almost $270 to $247? <3 If you have problems, keep complaining. People are starting to see the problems! Our local news (and many other news stations) have already done an article or something about all the problems. I think Apple is taking a hit. It makes me smile since they are not doing anything to address the issue. :)

Keep returning the phones so they don't sell as many to newer buyers. Remember, it's $200 less revenue for them! :D

Kinda off topic but one A$$ to another:
Is your sig line taken from your CraigsList AD??

this is not completely relevant to the i4. the entire market is down; depression pt 2. it has something to do with the chinese economy

Please do right up to the point they put the cuffs on. Then you will get a free bumper:D

Well either way, I am gonna assume it is from the IP4 just to make me giggle.

And I would get cuffed? I already returned the phone just to prevent others from getting it before. I never recorded it though. I will find out if I can go to jail for that or not. I might have to make it all "ninja-like". I got my free bumper though. I found something better! A Belkin case that is a bumper, and has a clear plastic screen on the back!

Let's face the facts. I am too stubborn/arrogant/stupid/idiotic (whatever you want to call me) to get rid of my iPhone 4 because it looks sexy, I can show it off (when it works), I like the features of it (obviously other phones have better hardware and options), etc etc...but "get a bumper and stop whining"....HAHAHAHA

Your keeping your phone based on it's appearance alone? I'm willing to bet you're single...

and "(obviously other phones have better hardware and options)" ? Really? Obviously? hmm, sorry, apparently to me it's not so obvious, what phone is it that has better hardware?

Understandable, okay..

But the real issue you failed to mention is-- does it drop calls? If not, then what's the problem?

Honestly, I don't care how many bars I have, as long as I don't drop calls where I should have service.

My iPhone 4 is a defective unit and the bumper only improves reception slightly when cupping it.

Look up Droid X and Evo4G. The hardware specs are better. Didn't say software. :) Do research. Yeah the cam does only 25 fps and ours does 30 fps but it is still higher mp, which doesn't mean better but still. hardware wise it has more options. Droid X has HDMI out. "Who cares blah blah" I am just saying that is an option the iPhone doesn't have "Go get a Droid X than". Lol no.

Just incase you are too stupid or lazy. I found one on the 1st page of the forums! :)

props to your message-board savvy, OP.

Thank you Doug! <3

Oh and look at all the bad publicity Apple is getting. LMAO to all the people saying "No one else is having the problem blah blah" Guess all those returns also made a difference somewhat :) And spreading the word DEFINITELY made a difference :) On TV, on ads, etc. Look on front page of Macrumors. Certain places can't even recommend the phone because of the antennae issue! HAHAHAHA. I want to make a thread to call out all the idiot fan boys who were all "blah blah phone has no problem blah blah this will not cause a big deal, blah blah". Pretty soon the entire US will know about it I bet :)

iPhone 4 users with this problem....KEEP SPREADING THE WORD. Make a big deal out of it :) You paid money for your phone, and you pay for the service. GIVE US A PHONE THAT WILL LET US USE OUR SERVICE REGARDLESS OF HOW WE HOLD OUR PHONE! :D
