Samsungs flagship is the galaxy series and that's the overwhelming majority of their smartphone sales. Its not like sales are spread out evenly among all their models.

People are just not as excited about Samsung as apple. There's no need to try to explain it away further.

Indeed, they make 1 flagship model that SOME buyers wish to own.
They also make a wide variety of other phones, all with different features, in different sizes at different price points to appeal to other customers and release them at other times of the year.

So this does not happen, like it would not happen if Apple did the same.

With all do respect for lemmings... those of us who don't live in our parent's basement, who have a full time job, a house and kids, line ups are... funny things to watch! :D

Anyone see any Samsung photographers making fun of people standing in line? I've seen pics of the Microsoft Store and one or two Google stores. Not a soul in there, but the Apple Stores are standing room only.

The other models don't sell even remotely close to what the galaxy series does. Other than the note. Secondly, people HAVE lined up in queues for Samsung phones, so that theory doesn't work either.

The fact is people simply are not as excited. And Samsung definitely wants them to be.

This is the line outside the Bondi Apple Store in Sydney, Australia at 6:30PM (13.5 hours from opening). The Apple store is open for another hour (9pm).

The one in the Sydney flagship store is hundreds long wrapping around a number of city blocks.

what made you display a line of people in portrait mode?

Videos, unlike photos, are almost universally presented horizontally. There’s a reason for this: It’s how we’re built to view the world. Our vision allows us to see more to the left and right than top and bottom. So when you shoot a video on your smartphone in portrait mode, you’re violating not only the set video standard, but also the laws of nature as they pertain to human sight.

So funny! I just walked past the london regent street store, there are 2 small tents with 3 people in them, and that's the total queue!!

Preorder#.

Haha cool, I work in piccadilly circus. Was gonna visit that store on friday to get a feel of the iPhone 6 Plus. To my surprise i got a txt from EE yesterday telling me that my 6 Plus will be delivered on friday 19th!!

Originally on the phone when I pre ordered they said it would be within the next 30 days such a pleasant surpise!

I wouldn't go that far. I have a house, a kid and run my own company. I have the luxury of being home a lot. In "my case", it would be a nice thing to do to go in line for a few hours to make sure my wife had her new iPhone on launch day, apposed to the 10/02-10/13 dates we have. She has been wanting a new phone since she is still on the Note 2. I don't personally like standing in lines, but if you are married, & understand the concept of pleasing you're wife, I need no more to explain lol. Happy wife, happy husband.

Of course if i did get in line, i would snag a 6 plus for myself ;).

Personally its not the standing in line that bugs me, its how happy people are at the Apple store so early in the morning lmao. I am not a talkative morning person lol.

Come on people!

Its a phone. Yes, I come on here because I love tech and get a little excited when new products are released. But how much of a life do you have to not have to sit and wait outside a shop for the newest iPhone that quite honestly does nothing drastically different from the last one.

These people need to get some kind of a life (maybe laid?) because essentially living the life of a homeless person for 7 days just so you can get a phone on the release day is not much of one.

I think standing in line for days compared to a few hours is two different animals. No?

I just got a notification that my iphone 6 has shipped and that it's at the courier company's depot in Botany (near the airport in Sydney, Australia). Mine is being delivered to my Sydney CBD office (15km from depot) so fingers crossed it will be around normal courier time of 10 am, ie about 12 hours from now.

Me too! Sitting at Botany and Getting delivered to my office in the CBD

I remember the old lines for Mac OS Tiger, Panther, etc. The lines would go thru the mall a good distance but the wait was reasonable and Apple didn't run out of inventory.

I've never understood these lines now that Apple ships to your home. If these people are willing to wait in line then they are will to wake up early in the morning to order a phone.

Scalpers and black market people buying them cash? Instead of on a plan for resell value.

The fact that every single one of the Asians (Chinese) are all in line buying up the max # of iPhones they can with cash and sending them back to China burns me up. They take all the fun out of waiting in line for the new phone not to mention wiping out the inventory for honest consumers. Apple should limit the phones to only as many as you are qualified for on your cellular account! I know they won't because a sale is a sale. But just get rid of these rude scalper leeches. I pre-ordered and won't get mine till Oct 1st but I don't care. It's better than standing in line with these rude, garlic smelling Chinese!

There are many, many things that most would consider more fun than that... A visit to the dentist, rectal exam, a Celine Dion concert, watching Apple's attempt at a keynote live stream...

Personally, and call me crazy for this - I pre-ordered last week through the O2 store near where I work, I received the email today that my phone was in-store for collection tomorrow, I shall walk into said store tomorrow and walk out with my phone. No camping required! It seems a lot easier and less stressful than the odd behaviour exhibited by many in these photos.

I love my tech, but I agree I couldnt and never have I stood in a queue for any device, I order online and get on with life until it arrives.

I cant seriously understand why anyone would book time off work to queue days in advance of the launch of a device. Time off spent to 'Queue' who does that??

Even if they plan to just re-sell the phone getting just double or triple its value is it really worth the days of discomfort? Money cant make me live unhappily for a few days, especially such a small amount.

I think resellers would simply preorder the phone. Lining up is more about the experience, especially as they probably restrict the number of devices you can pick up.

Because they will want to pay with cash. The reseller groups don't use credit cards.

lol, chinese people are queuing up in australia to sell those "made in china by chinese people"-iphones to other chinese people back in china, who can't buy them there because china government doesn't allow apple to sell iphone 6 yet.

Sam song low-end feature phones that have android dwarf the galaxy line in sales.

And my wife thought I was silly for getting up at 4am to pre-order my iPhone 6!

I'm hoping for early delivery… my iPhone 5 showed up one day early… maybe my 6 will too! Just hoping.

I stood in line for the iP1 and iP4. It was pretty cool chatting with people as we waited but I will enjoy receiving mine tomorrow in the mail. Chatting is now left for forums like this!

HA!!! You insulted line-squatters and Celine Dion at the same time... You are my hero. :D

To the people in line: Get a life. It's not fun, it's not a business strategy. You are losers who are volunteering your time as a free marketing tool for a company who already has the most powerful brand recognition on the planet. Go home.

Here are my picture I took at Westfield this afternoon:

Is the entire Asian population of Australia in that line?
